Worth exploring
The room size was very good. The lighting in the room was terrible. The facility seemed clean, did not smell bad and had a lovely terrace out back. For a place where all seniors live we were surprised there were no handles in the bathroom or shower area and the bathroom didn't seem handicapped accessible. Some of the staff were very nice and very helpful. My mom was not an easy resident often yelling for help etc. Staff were always willing to answer our questions. There was a ton of confusion upon move in and the first week. No one really sat down with us to tell us what we could and couldn't have, issues with meds, lip balm, moisturizer... no one said any and all of this needed doctors orders. It was so confusing. She fell out of bed several times and we kept asking about bed rails or safety concerns and ultimately she broke her ribs falling out of bed and that was the beginning of the end. I think my mom may have had too many needs for Viva (The Terrace). I think The Terrace is fun for someone mobile and much more independent.

The facility and staff have been amazing. Cleanliness is stellar. The apartment for the cost is appropriate. There have been a few issues here and there, however when brought to their attention they address them very quickly. Overall a great experience.

Review for Viva Senior Living at Chestnut Hill
The Chestnut Hill Terrace / Tom was so professional and showed much patience with me and my family , We looked at having our Dad live there but our family kept. Putting it off cause one thing and another and chanced the month a couple times, also it was 3 of us / my sister and brother that was providing different info that Tom needed . It was about 6 months from the time we looked at the Terrence until we actually moved Dad in . Tom kept in touch and reached out to see how we were doing and what the plan was WITHOUT being pushy or overbearing , I can't tell you how much that was appreciated!! The Terrence is beautiful and have a great activities offered on a daily basis . Dad totally enjoys the food . They made my dad welcomed . Also when we had questions and concerns that we had after Dad moved in , they were all addressed seamlessly . Our family feels great that Dad is well taken care and supervised ! What a relief . My Dad is again thriving in being in this social environment ! A place for Mom has been so beneficial to our family in helping us get started when we didn't know where to begin .

This is the perfect place for my Dad. I toured 6 facilities in the area and this was the best in my opinion. The amenities are very nice and the staff was very welcoming. I feel confident that our family has made the right decision.

Staff is friendly, helpful, and life-saving
I love the staff. The staff of TCH has been friendly, kind and helpful to my father and to me. The medical team is great. They were the ones who recognized my father was in kidney failure so we could get him help. I really appreciate the people who work at TCH.

Disrepect is unacceptable
I am disturbed at the behavior of some employees. The person at the front desk is usually the first person quest will encounter. The Terrace has a rude person by the name of [name removed] at that desk. It disturbs me because this woman called my mother, a resident at the facility out of her name. To be exact, she called my mother a [profanity removed]. In my opinion she she NOT be working there and she absolutely should NOT greet anyone. I've spoken to [name removed] about it & she feels like the woman is a very nice person. She's NOT nice if she'll call a resident out of her name. They have some work to do when it comes to customer service

Good Place, Caring Staff'.
The staff at The Terrace seems caring and they do a good job. I like that there is usually something going on in the main living room area -- music, or an activity -- that gives the place a lively energy.

That would be difficult for me to do. I assisted my brother with the placement of his wife there. This was his decision and what he told me was he liked the vibe. One impressive point was the staff was so friendly and kind. Also most of the staff has been employed for many years.

Started with such promise
Everything was fine until my dad passed. Since then we have been completely ghosted. Not a word of condolence. Nothing. Hard to say much since he was only there for 1 day. I will say that the nurse was very difficult to work with by email, though better by phone or in person. Also dad's button was not working until I called in to find out what was happening.

Positive Experience
The staff are extremely friendly and always very kind when my family comes to visit. They are very helpful and they always want to make sure my dad is well taken care of. You can tell when you walk in that they care deeply about keeping the place warm, inviting and decorated for all different events throughout the year. It is very inclusive and diverse. We looked at several places and the Terrace at Chestnut Hill was the most affordable for our family, but honestly, it was the most warm and welcoming. Other facilities really make you feel like just a number and it is very costly to have to have a family member in a place like this to begin with. It speaks volumes that some of the workers have had their own parents at this facility

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Pennsylvania’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Pennsylvania’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
