It is a lot nicer than most even though the building is really old. My mother's apt has had window leaks twice but it was during heavy storms with high winds.

Review for University Village Retirement Community
It was a good experience! The person we talked to made us feel welcome, patiently answered questions and didn't pressure us. I picked University Village because their pricing was better and the place seemed like a better value than other places. Plus, my brief interviews with a few residents were very positive.

Impressive staff
I can say, we couldn't be happier with the care that my Mother is getting. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The move in process wasn't streamlined, but it was okay. The facility keeps us informed at all stages and have been working with our insurance and medical extremely well. The meals are fine, but not eating there I can't say much more. My mother hasn't complained. I would recommend this facility to anyone, especially to those who might need to elevate care. We started in Assisted and now are in skilled. Rehab on site was needed and effective. I highly recommend University Village Retirement Community to others.

Tour experience
We had a pretty good tour experience with University Village Retirement Community. The main reason we did not choose this facility was because they were priced way higher than we were wanting to pay.

Amazing Staff
The greatest thing to my sister and I is how amazing all the staff is. If 10 would have been an option I would have chose that. And we love that they have so many activities to keep mom busy. The meals are the only thing we would not give a 5 to and that is just because our loved one say they are just okay

Donna, Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. The staff loves to hear that they’re making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve. While you can imagine that 300+ residents have their own favorite foods, we welcome their suggestions. In fact, we utilize some of the recipes that residents have shared with us through the years. So, please encourage your loved one to share their thoughts with us too.

My tour review
This community seemed like it would have been a nice place but the location just did not work for my family and where my loved one needed to be. The people were very nice and gave a lot of info and a lot of background on the community.

UVRC Assisted Living is Great
My mom moved into UVRC in late May (during pandemic) so I had to manage everything remotely. The assisted living staff there is amazing. A few weeks back mom had to go to ER and was admitted to hospital. I couldn't visit her there. One of the AK nurses called me that first night to see how I was doing! Mom is happy and I feel like she is in very good hands.

Sad witness
My father has only been at this place a few days and already there have been some big concerns. My dad arrived by ambulance from a hospital. He had surgery 2 days in a row. He is 83 years old. He is struggling to get his mind back. Crazy because before he went to the hospital he was driving and independent! The care at the hospital was terrible as he has sores on his feet and “his bottom is really really really bad!” These are words said by the nurse at University Village!!! He has yet to have any improvement on his bottom and is treated with a VERY PAINFUL SPRAY. Sadly my dad has lost the ability to control himself when he needs to use the bathroom. He is not wiped well Next, he’s in the very last room down a long hall. The first night, my dad fell out of his bed. Unfamiliar with his surroundings, as he was transported after 5:30 PM, from the hospital, it was dark and it left him clueless how to call for help. The sudden move was decided at 11AM Third, the staff has done little to nothing for his therapy. Only having him lift his legs and put them down. We were first told he would be there three weeks. I was told day before yesterday, he will be there 8 weeks. Why?! Maybe because their insurance pays for 10 weeks?! Fourth, his toenails are atrocious! Heck! They scare me! They have given him a manicure and done nothing to his feet. Fifth, his dentures are now broken. Part of a front tooth is chipped off. I don’t know if they were dropped or what. Sixth concern: my mother is hating her time away from him. She is slow to get around and her hips have her using a wheelchair when her mobility cannot withstand the pain of long walks. I take her to visit dad while I run home to clean up after work and teen to my teenager. She has made several attempts to call from my dad’s room. Not my daughter’s nor my phone ever ring. I’ve called my dad’s room several times and it doesn’t ring. Why have the phones in the room if we can’t use them. When I arrived to get her my mother was stuck in a chair and was past ready to go home. She couldn’t communicate that to me, as no phone to call me. Last and important issue: MY MOM AND ME HAVE RECEIVED CALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. MY MOTHER IS 81 YEAR OLD. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE TERROR THAT CAME OVER HER WHEN SHE HEARD: “Hello. This is University Village calling for _______. Are you _______ wife?” IT WAS 3:00, in the morning!!!! I had called UV, about 5:00 PM. No one at the buses station answers, so I was asked to leave a name and phone number. II received a call [removed] AM!! Why call me 5 hours later? Back to my mother.... FOR A SECOND NIGHT IN A ROW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT SHE GOT A CALL. THIS TIME AT 3AM. TALK ABOUT FREAKING SCARING MY MOM!! THE NURSE INSISTED MY MOTHER BRING DAD T-SHIRTS “AS TOLD TO DO THE DAY BEGORE”. My mother had brought him clothes and was told no need by some other nurse. The call ended and mom was then crying, of course! It’s so difficult to watch a parent suffer. As their daughter, lacking the skills and knowledge to do do what needs done makes me feel helpless. This is why God made special people become caregivers for the ones in need of assistance. It’s a job I could not do. I am not strong enough to see and do all of what nurses encounter and endure on such long shifts. My dad is grateful for any and all of those who come to his aid. He always expresses his gratitude. He still attempts to do things for himself so not not put anyone out. I pray someone will read this and hear our pleas for my dad care to improve. We want him to return home to be with my mom. They had their 59th Anniversary, on the 24th, while he was in the hospital. She, he, me and the rest of the family and friends want him home with a positive experience. Words can’t say enough to say thank you to those who do the required and expected responsibilities as a nurse. again, we want him treated like he was more than a body in a room with a number on a door.

This is a more old school traditional community where a resident could start off independent but graduate to more help affordably if needed. The only drawback was long halls to dining for many residents. The best deal may be the cottage units which are in a quaint neighborhood surrounding the community. For active seniors this is ideal and cost effective. Advisors Vicki and Sylvia were so friendly and helpful. Lots of long time employees here.

I was very pleasantly surprised here with the age of the property. It s well maintained, reasonably updated, and very friendly. I like the idea of being able to choose which meal you eat in the common dining room. Again, location, location! The surrounding area has much to offer with very short travel. This property jumps to the top of my list for consideration.

Great community and they have made many updates, they need to focus on astetically enhancing the property. Also a buffet style is hard for seniors, so that was a make or break for our family. Even though they carry your food to the table you could be waiting in line for 10 minutes to place your order. That's just not something my Dad wanted to do.

They Do It All
It is a wonderful place. My father lived there in Assisted Living. When he broke his hip last summer, he was able to stay on campus and go to their rehab unit. He got to go back to his apartment. He had a stroke a few weeks later and was then able to go the full nursing care part of the nursing home. All of the staff in all parts of the campus are wonderful. Some parts of the building are older, but the care that the patients receive make up for it. I highly recommend this place to anyone that needs a senior community.

Didn't Care to Much For this Community
I didn't care very much for my tour of this community. Their independent living portion of the community is full, so they told us my father in law would have to move to another portion of the community. Which met a further walk for him to everything, we were not comfortable with the idea. The meal program is limited. For the most part our tour guide was kind, but she did misinform me about some information. It was not the community for my father in law.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Oklahoma regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Oklahoma regulations for Assisted Living.
