My dad should never have been approved for Memory Care based on other residents in Memory Care at Cedar Ridge
Dad did not get regular showers or shaved. Residents were allowed to go into his room all hours of the night. Residents took his stuff that we would have to get workers to find such as his binoculars. His new electric shaver and charger was stolen which never was recovered. He couldn’t sleep at night for all the yelling and cussing. I tried to have the 30 day notice removed due to all of this. He moved out on [date removed] and they are trying to bill him for ALL of September and October. I asked for corporate phone number but have not received. If this does not get resolved I will post on their Facebook page as well as tell everyone I know of my dad’s bad experience

Friendliness of staff is 5. They are very nice and seem happy to be there. Overall experience 3. Cedar Ridge is short staffed and in a year there have been 3 different activity directors come and go. Cleanliness is 3. Pets occasionally mess in the carpet in the hallway and it remains for over a week before carpet cleaning. Like no one is responsible. Mom's room gets cleaned I don't know how often but your socks get black walking across the floor. Quality of care is 4. Mom doesn't get help to take a shower twice a week or to change clothes daily but she is safe. She cannot remember a code to leave the building. Meals/Dining is 4. The meals I have seen and shared on a few occasions were good. The residents often wait 30 minutes or more for their meals to be served. That is likely the result of short staff. Activities is a 5. They offer a variety of activities daily whether Mom participates or not is another story. She does enjoy walking in the mornings but loses interest in Reading, puzzles, movies, group activities and crafts. She just has little interest in doing things. Value for cost is 3. Mom has a nicer larger space at Cedar Ridge than at my house. I don't see that my mom's needs for daily living skills are truly being addressed. She still needs to be told to take a shower twice a week and to put on clean clothes. She needs something constructive to do to give her purpose. The cost is so high for what she receives. It's insane to understand why it costs <fee removed> per month for her medicines to be given to her. That <fee removed> x 25 residents = <fee removed> and you know there are more residents than 25 having meds dispensed to them. Why so much? We are in the process of looking for the next place for Mom.

Things to know.
When we signed the lease the transportation bus was available Tuesday-Friday which we knew we would need to use. They have decided to only use the bus for doctor appointment on Tuesday only. We can't always get a Tuesday appointment. 1) Their emergency fobs take a long time for the staff to answer. 2)You can only use the transportation bus for doctor appointments on Tuesday only.

Our family's experience
Staff is kind. The on site therapy is awesome. They seem very unorganized. Many times we are not able to get answers to questions, like how to sign up for foot care. Maintenance man is so nice but he must be very overworked. Two weeks have passed without tending to requests. The head RN is terrific. She also seems very overworked. Parents have been there two months & have only seen the facility doctor once.

Pros and cons - might be the right fit for you
Caveat: this was to be a short term situation where mom could do some pt without being overwhelmed while she waited for Medicare to kick back in. She had broken both legs and was not fully recovered when she ran out of skilled nursing days. Her condition was closer to needing nursing home care than assisted living. She was not happy about being there and did not have the best of attitudes with the staff. Other residents seemed happy with the facility. I found communication difficult. I would leave messages for director who would forward to nurse to talk to me. It took a while for someone to contact me back. Nurse and I would agree on certain care that staff did not carry out. Mom did not like the meals and there were seldom alternatives offered. Mom spent 3 months in facility. She was allowed to develop bedsores. Mom had some issues that I think this facility was just not able to handle. She was transferred to hospital from this facility where she passed one month later. I have no ill will towards anyone at this facility, however I believe that the claims of care offered were not realistic for mom's situation. The facility seemed to meet the needs of other residents who were more mobile and self sufficient. There were positive things there and could have been more if mom's attitude had been different. However, it might be helpful for someone looking for a place for a person who is not mobile or self motivated that this might not be the place for them. Talking to the other residents, many of them were very happy and had made it their permanent home

Nice, friendly, homey, safe place for my loved one. I love that I have personal phone numbers of staff members who deal directly with my loved one. Family dinners/activities/meetings with loved ones are also greatly appreciated. I have confident assurance and peace of mind knowing my loved one is being well cared for. I love that this facility is smaller so it feels more like a home and family. I highly recommend this facility to friends quite frequently.

Still billing me months after father passed away
My father was a resident at Cedar Ridge Senior Living (respite) for less than 8 weeks, until he passed away from a fall while in their care. Despite the fact that they were given a 30-day written notice that we were not keeping his room (per our contract) and despite the fact that we moved all of his things out of this room WEEKS prior to that 30 days, Cedar Ridge continues to bill me as if he is still a resident. I have called and emailed them multiple times and rarely get any response other than "we'll look into it and call you back" which they never do. I have even called the Executive Director, [name removed], several times and have not heard back from her. This is completely unacceptable. I DO NOT recommend this place! My father didn't like it and now I'm dealing with their incompetent staff. Very unhappy and I wish I had chosen a different place for my Dad.

Cedar Ridge
They change the code to exit the facilities frequently, but they do not inform the family members of the new code. You have to track down a worker to get the code to leave the facility. Their call button, when the resident needs something, is real old. They cannot talk to the resident to see what they need. It usually takes 30 minutes to an hour before someone comes to the room to see what the issue is.

Experience at Cedar Ridge
My loved one was previously a resident at Cedar Ridge Senior Living and the experience was not great, we ended up moving my loved one to another facility. I will say, they welcome their new residents very well. They give them a welcome basket, give you contact phone numbers, etc. I thought that was a good thing, but I kept texting the nurse about things and I may or may not have gotten a response. The nursing department at this facility lacks in communication and organization. We had a big problem with my loved one not getting meds, the med techs did not follow through with processes. The food was okay, but slow to get to the residents that were served for meals. I honestly felt that they were either understaffed or just didn't have good help in all areas.

The staff are all friendly and helpful at Cedar Ridge Senior Living. The housekeeping seems to be fine, but the laundry is very inefficient. Be prepared for it to take several days to get your laundry back. They are very good about communicating with the family and they did everything that they could to make the move in process go smoothly. From the reports I have had from my mother, the meals are just adequate. Usually it takes a very long time to get served. Even with the negatives, I believe the positives out weigh them and I would recommend Cedar Ridge Senior Living to others. From the reports that I have had from others, there aren't any perfect ones, but the most important things I believe are addressed at Cedar Ridge.

Needs Improvement. I would not recommend at this time until they hire more staff
I have been extremely disappointed about few things with Cedar Ridge. First the lack of staff is ridiculous. When residents push their button no one comes repeatedly. I have addressed an issue with the nurses station twice in 2 months. I did get an apology. They have changed the code to get in and out of the building and not notified family. We don't get an email of the calendar of events each month to know what the residents are doing. They don't get church on Sunday. My mom's dementia is getting worse and just this past Friday someone called me to see if I would okay getting speech therapy for Mom if the doctor would write a letter and insurance would approve it. It may help her cognitive progress. I am thrilled that someone finally took notice of her.

We picked this community because, it seemed perfect. The location was equal distance from me and my brothers. They were willing to purée my dad's food. The staff was very friendly, and the place was very clean and it was one of the recommendations that you all gave us. Cedar Ridge senior living changed management about mid way into his residency, which, in my opinion, was one of the worst things they could do to such a great senior living. We saw a complete change from the beginning to the end from happy employees too stressed and overworked employees.

Great staff
I just visited my aunt for the first time at this facility. What really stood out was the sincerity of attention the staff provided. Their hearts are in the right place. The patience and attention they give is true and not "just a job". Would recommend highly. Many thanks to all the staff !

The staff is extremely unprofessional and very uncaring and very unsympathetic towards the patients or people that are living there at the residence. As far as any improvements, you know getting professional staff would probably help. As far as recommending, the only recommendation I would make is that people avoid the place like the plague.

Horrible experience
I had a horrible experience with Cedar Ridge. My dad was there 4 days and was never given his insulin once!! Had to be rushed to the ER day 3! He had a blood clot in his catheter and Home Health was called 3 times, in which over a period of close to 2 hours they never showed up!!! I am in the process of calling attorneys to take my case for my dad. His faith in them forced us to look at putting him into the VA in Claremore. And he feels they took so much from him... I'm terribly upset with Cedar Ridge. Trying to get someone to return a phone call has been another story.

The facility is nice and the units are generously sized and well cared for. The management seems to be stretched thin and high staff turnover is worrisome. Property recently let one RN go and indicated that they have no plans to replace them which means that now there is only one RN at the facility to oversee all of the Assisted Living members as well as all the Memory Care members.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Oklahoma regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Oklahoma regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Cedar Ridge Senior Living 7.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
