The price can't be beat. The staff truly cares about the residents. The Community Relations director, [name removed] has nearly 30 years of experience welcoming residents and coaching families to fill out necessary forms. Doctors Making House Calls is a great organization coming to our Mom's room when requested along with regular checkups. Meals are delicious with 3 choices at each meal, served restaurant style. There seem to be a lot more residents. The dining experience is more crowded. It can get loud during the meal.Newer residents seem to have more medical issues. My Mom is well cared for. The staff is very caring.

Good for the price
One level, right size overall. Upkeep and lack of follow up from facility when my mother has issues or needs medical type attention and follow up from the outside they say they take care of it all but they don't. My family still has to coordinate and make sure she gets to appointments or when she's needed x-rays or urine test or things like that they're not taking care of it. You get what you pay for.

I am so sorry you have that opinion of our community and would like to talk to you directly about your experience. Please email me directly at Ginger.McGehee@willowridgeseniorliving.com so we can set up a time to chat. We do set up any xrays or medical items needed for our residents to make sure they are well taken care of. We have a mobile xray company that comes right to the building to take care of this for our residents.

Wonderful Place
The community is nice and very welcoming. It's tucked in a little neighborhood off a main road but is walkable. The high school sports filed is in the back, patients like to watch the kids games. They really try to make sure that the residents are included in different events and have some social time. The only thing that I feel needs work is the food. Not a lot of fresh foods and a lot of fried foods. Can be challenging with dietary needs. Understand that they are cooking for 100+ people. More healthy choices are needed in my opinion. Otherwise it is a fantastic place. Some of the rooms offer sliding doors out to a semi private courtyard. They can even plant flowers if they like

Amazing!
The Village at Penfield, a Willow Ridge Senior Living Center has been so kind and caring to our brother. He is a younger resident (67), dealing with brain cancer and they have gone above and beyond to make him feel special and loved. They take the time to listen and hear his thoughts and feelings. They even have made him special meals, upon his request. He feels safe and supported but maintains his autonomy. We are very fortunate to have found this place to care for our brother so we can be his siblings again, instead of his caregivers. They say it takes a village to care for someone you love and we have found our village…in Penfield. We cannot say enough about this place!

Going downhill
This used to be a great senior living facility. It is now under new management and is awful. We were thrilled with the management company that held a meeting in October to explain what they would bring to the facility and then "poof" they disappeared and Willow Ridge came on the scene. They are new and do not have their act together. Check out the reviews on their other communities...awful. We are currently looking for another place for our parent.

I am so sorry to hear that anyone would be thinking this of our wonderful community. We pride ourselves on good communication with family members and would always support and encourage anyone with any questions or concerns to contact us directly. We have not had any family members contact us regarding any concerns due to recent changes. Please reach out to me directly at Ginger.McGehee@willowridgeseniorliving.com to discuss any concerns. Regarding changes under new management, what specific changes are you referring to? We have not changed vendors, we have not changed billing, and we also have not changed any programming. We have streamlined the menu to allow for better quality and focus on meals/menus that keep specific resident wants and needs in mind. We have reduced the amount of workload on business operations to allow the Executive Director and Business Office Director more resident time and interaction. We have allowed an all-inclusive care model to truly allow folks to age in place and not have to be moved on due to running out of funds. We have offered the flexibility of payment to allow those seniors in need that previously could not afford us to be welcomed into our community. We want to meet the needs of middle-income seniors and provide them quality care, meals, and activities at an affordable rate. All of these changes we have made throughout the last few weeks have been positive so again, please reach out to me directly at Ginger.McGehee@willowridgeseniorliving.com to go over any specific concerns as it relates to your family member.

Atria Penfield Review
I find the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. My mother is fond of them. Examples of staff that are great...Dining room staff. Front desk staff, 'Red Shirts' they're called. They deliver pharmacy, make beds, answer button calls. The residents that my mother has become friends with are just great...she has a lot of friends. That's the best of it. My mother says the executive staff hear residents complaints and do nothing!!! I agree. I think there are a lot of people there that actually belong in nursing care...my mother is very sharp and she tells me of residents that are exhibiting mental issues. I think they're hurting for residents...think their numbers are down since my mother moved there. The cleaning staff is scant. I do a lot of cleaning myself. I know the food was better but now that's not too great either. Lots of fish, only great desserts for special occasions. Overall, I wouldn't move my mother because she's used to it. She pays $[removed] a month. If you want any help it's $[removed] plus more a month. Do I think they should be doing more? I do. I respond to every survey. Offer better food, modern interior, and more activities. Doesn't happen.

We pride ourselves on maintaining good relationships with our residents and family members. We absolutely respond to all resident complaints and are always looking for ways to improve. We have housekeeping staff 7 days a week so I am not sure what the cleaning needs specifically you are referring to would be. We have licensing in place that would prevent us from allowing residents that would need a nursing home level of care. I would like to chat with you directly about your experiences as we have not had any family members come to the community directly with these concerns. Please contact me directly at Ginger.McGehee@willowridgeseniorliving.com so we can chat more.

A Community that is Attentive to needs of the Residents
We picked this community because it was close to family. My loved one made friends. The staff took care of things. It would be nice if they invited familiy to outings, such as a movie/popcorn night, or an ice cream social. I would recommend to other families.

a very nice community
Our loved ones biggest complaint would have to be with the meals - according to her now she is dealing with dementia so we are not sure how much of this is true, but she says by the time she gets down to the dining hall most of the hot meals are gone and what is left is just cold sandwiches. She is still adjusting to things but the staff member's have been incredibly and they can easily look at a situation and come back to us with different recommendations

Prepare to Buy a New Car
The community doesn't care about the things being the most updated and current. The décor, the staff are stuck in the 80's or 90's. There are some staff that go above and beyond, and other staff members make it harder than it needs to be. The amount of lockdowns in the community that is happening is not good, I do realize that some of this might be because of the state regulation. Why can I take my loved one out to dinner, but I can't enjoy a meal with my loved one in the dining room? Especially because my loved one would much rather stay in the community than go out. [name removed] is great, but I wish another staff member would quit. Everyone at the front desk is amazing and awesome!

Atria Is a Great Senior Living Community
This is a good place, and the staff is friendly. The staff tend to look after for your loved one. My loved one has been well taken care of. There are activities available for the residents. There is a large tv for the residents to watch, puzzles, music, games, and more for the residents to choose from. There is also a library and an activities room. A gardening club is another option as well for activities. This is overall a very good place. We have been pleased with our experience. I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones.

Very friendly, accommodating, and efficient. We like Atria Penfield.
The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They really try to help with whatever problem you might have. Any concerns they address immediately. All in all they do a really great job. Overall the facility is clean and well kept up, including the outdoors and exterior. One area for improvement is the on-site doctor visits. It took way too long for the doctor to see my mom after she first moved in. But I've met the doctor, and she is a very nice woman who seemed very concerned about my mom's health. She is knowledgeable and took her time to explain things to me. I just think they might need a second doctor. She sees so many people it's difficult to keep up with all of them.

Highly recommended
We chose Atria Penfield because it did not look like a nursing home. He also needed rehab and he was able to get his own private room that looked like a little apartment. It was such a unbelievably nice place. The staff are very upfront and honest with any questions you ask. It has a very homey feeling to it and the food is amazing. All around it was a great experience.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the New York regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about New York regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Village at Penfield 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
