Perfect for my Sweet Mom
My 87-year-old Mom moved in to her lovely apt at The Reserve at Lake Austin in [date removed] The Reserve is gorgeous - like a high end boutique hotel. Mom's apt is filled with natural sunlight, views of west Austin cliffs & trees (all units have sunlight & views), and a full sized fridge in the kitchenette and a seemingly new washer/dryer. The staff are warm and friendly and highly competent. The care my mom is receiving is great - she loves the caregivers who bring her meds, check in on her, and keep her apartment clean and laundry done. Everyone seems to know Mom by name - it really feels like a warm community, not just a 'facility.' Staff have always been very responsive to any concerns I've had regarding Mom's needs - Mom feels safe and is well taken care of. The food is terrific - the first meal I had there was a flatbread with goat cheese, arugula, and figs with a balsamic drizzle - not too shabby! My only regret is that I didn't convince Mom to move to The Reserve sooner!

We LOVE The Reserve @ Lake Austin
My Mama moved from her farm in Brenham to The Reserve in September of 2025. Amazingly, the transition has been super easy and positive in every way. The staff is incredible, the food is delicious and the community & amenities are wonderful! She is so happy and proud to call The Reserve her home.

This was noy an easy transition for our parents, but everyone at The Reserve has gone out of their way to be kind, welcoming and helpful. The staff work hard to get to know the residents and keep them engaged and happy.

Outstanding experience, all the way around!
My mother has been a resident at The Reserve at Lake Austin for 18 months, and she loves living there. The leadership staff and caretakers are incredibly kind and loving. The food is always top-notch, and there are plenty of activities to keep her busy. We have been very pleased with the whole experience, and we would highly recommend The Reserve!

Wonderful home for my parents!
My parents have lived at The Reserve at Lake Austin for about two years. First, the property is beautifully maintained, the views are great and the interior finishes and design are excellent. The care that they have provided my parents has been just as excellent. Everyone who works at The Reserve is professional, friendly, respectful and caring. They really take the time to get to know each resident personally as well as their families. It’s never a problem when we reach out or need anything. The ability to communicate with the nursing and medical staff has been fantastic and gives us peace of mind that my parents are being so well cared for. It’s not a huge property so everything is very personal. Everyone knows my parents and looks out for them. The front desk staff are great. They are very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant staff know all the residents and greet them by name. The food is good and made fresh to order. The Reserve has been a blessing to our family!

Personal choice
My mother was in a major crisis - both mental and physical. She needed urgent care. I chose the Reserve initially for aesthetic reasons to help her with the transition - it’s beautiful, there’s greenery, the apartment was spacious and modern. But it turned out the aesthetics were just a bonus. The on-site nurses and the loving staff went above and beyond what my mom needed. They demonstrated patience, kindness, and compassionate. We will forever be grateful to the Reserve for helping my entire family, particularly me as the primary caregiver, get thru one of the darkest and most difficult period of our lives.

Review for The Reserve at Lake Austin
I would recommend to others. But I would prepare a little more than I did. In memory care, probably don't want to have a lot of heirlooms or items you never want to lose. Because they did get lost :( and the staff can only keep up with as much as they can. Super friendly and caring staff! Dad is very happy in memory care

Great place for mom/dad
The facilities are top-notch. If not the best we've seen, among the best. It's a truly luxury feel. Feels like a 4-star hotel. The staff are terrific as well. Kind, attentive, knowledgeable, proactive. The services are also terrific - zero issues, all good experiences. The food is really good, though service at meals can often be s-l-o-w...they need to work on that. They try very hard to make it an interesting and engaging place to be - live music a couple of times a week, happy hours regularly, etc. So each element of the place is done very well, top notch. The only issue we have found is they struggle to have a sense of overall community...or at least that's how it seems to us. There's not really a "Cruise Director" or "Camp Counselor" role - like we had at Dad's last apartment. Someone who does the rah-rah, gets everyone together and puts an emphasis on group...as opposed to individual...participation. I am not sure if that's by design? Maybe some prefer to have more 'space', have the ability to pick and choose what they participate in, etc. But for my Dad's specific case, I'd love it if they were more energetic/active/forceful in getting folks together.

Amazing blessing for our family
There is not one thing I could possibly say that isn’t a 5 star review. The staff has been such a blessing to our family and my dad, who was a resident. It was the cleanest of facilities that we toured and felt like a resort. The staff is flexible and welcoming to the entire family. The activities are well planned and the residents kept busy on a predictable schedule. I wished we had moved my dad in earlier in his disease. It is an amazing place! Oh, and the chef makes the best food! Special shout outs to [name removed] and her team in memory care as well as Lucky who oversaw dads health plan and Amy in the front office!

Learning to Live in Assisted Living
It was a very big adjustment for me to leave my home and come to the Reserve to live in Assisted Living. The transition went well because of the attention of my family and the staff here. Everyone called me by my first name the minute I arrived. An area that needs attention is meals/dining. Several chefs have come and gone since mt arrival. At times certain items are not available.

Beyond my hopes and expectations
We needed to move my mom from independent living to assisted living on short notice. From the moment we took our Reserve tour, we felt a sense of relief that seemed too good to be true. My mom has resided in the Reserve now for four months. Her dementia has increased and the staff attention has also increased beyond my hopes and expectations. The Reserve is lovely and offers diverse activities and events for the residents. More importantly, the sense of involved awareness and kindness toward Mom from the receptionist and waitstaff to the caregivers to the medical team to the upper management is genuine and their accessibility brings comfort beyond measure. Each member of the staff is the true jewel in the crown of the Reserve.

My parents live in a really lovely two bedroom apartment. The staff know them (and their family members) well, speak to them with compassion and respect, and keep my parents healthy, happy, and safe. Staff retention, prompt attention, and communication are excellent. As a family we could not be more pleased with the active lifestyle, professional care, and beautiful property!

Peace of Mind-- recommend!
care was difficult in the beginning. Just have to stay after them to do what they say! they change a bit. But are currently stable! The people who give direct care are great. In the beginning with the admin staff ( nursing, doctors and Empowerment -the OT PT providers) you will need to schedule a weekly or biweekly team meeting. We did these online. It was necessary to hear what was going on and point out details that they may not know regarding how to work with our family member.

This facility falls short in several essential areas
The Reserve of Lake Austin is not a recommended facility for your loved one, particularly if you are considering their Memory Care services. Many staff members lack proper training to effectively care for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's. Key areas of training are missing, including techniques for de-escalation and communication tailored to individuals with memory challenges. The facility's dining situation is equally disappointing. Despite going through multiple chefs, the food quality remains subpar. Meals are frequently served lukewarm, and the facility seems to lack an adequate system to ensure food stays warm as it is distributed throughout the building. Medication management is another critical issue. Residents often do not receive their medication at the times prescribed by their doctors. Some staff appear to implement their own rules and procedures, which seems to stem from poor leadership and a significant breakdown in communication.

Nice place, nice people, food not very appetizing
Hi there! I moved my dad in at the beginning of December. The best best thing is that the staff are always friendly with me and my dad. I think they really care about him. This is the most important aspect of it all and they are reliably kind. He is pretty polite so he just says the food is ok. But he hints about how it isn’t. “There is only one really good plate and only sometimes.” I ate with him a couple of times. Just enough to know I didn’t want to pay for the food. It’s disappointing because he eats there three times a day. The other residents complain about the same thing. I’d expect for the cost, the food would be a step up. I don’t think it needs to be fancy, but it should taste good. I’m hoping it’s just temporary :)

A nice facility
Communication between members of the staff and between directors is not great. So care plans are challenging to put into practice. As your parent becomes more mentally impaired this can be a challenge. It was a very nice facility. It had just opened so rooms were available and they were also offering a very reasonable overall cost.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Texas’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Texas’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Reserve at Lake Austin 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
