Heritage of Overland Park review
My husband has had a difficult time adjusting and doesn't know why he is there and why can't he come home. Makes me feel guilty and question whether or not I placed him too soon . They have a new activities person and she is trying new things all the time so maybe that will improve. Weekends seem pretty slow and reduced help. Since my husband is in a wheelchair most all the time I don't try to take him out very often. I think they have the usual problems either staff not showing up and turnover resulting in new people who don't know much about the residents. My husband says he likes the food. I notice it is pretty high carb and lots of hand held sandwiches. Since he is type 2 diabetic, I paid more attention to that at home, but he hasn't suffered any from it. The medical oversight is marginal to me. A nurse practitioner comes once a week. Communication regarding her recommendations and consistent treatment has been lacking to me. We are getting to know more of the staff the longer we are here, but I think they have turnover issues as everyone seems to. The cost I think is extremely high but not much more here than every place I looked. Initially it was [amount removed] a month, but it has been raised to [amount removed] because of the increased level of care they my husband needed. They do not accept Medicaid patients here, so if and when we run out of money, I guess we will have to move him somewhere else.

We are very pleased with The Heritage of Overland Park
My mom has been a resident at The Heritage of Overland Park for a year this month. My sister and I have been very pleased with her stay so far. We always say we can't thank the fantastic staff enough for providing the love and care we needed for our mom and the stress relief we needed in knowing she is well cared for and more importantly safe. She seems very well adjusted every time we visit and this means more to my sister and me than anything else we can ask for. I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and other residents and sharing a bit of their lives too. This is a very hard journey for all involved but if you embrace it and enjoy your loved one and all the other dear people who reside with them it makes the ride a lot less bumpy. We pray our situation doesn't go on for years to come but we greatly appreciate all the love and care the staff at The Heritage provides our mom for however long we need it. Bless each of you and thank you.

Very happy
We chose The Heritage because it had 3 separate self contained buildings with 18 residents in each one instead of one large facility. I felt like my dad would have gotten lost in the shuffle in the other ones that we looked into. The room sizes are pretty good, bigger than some that I looked at. They are all exactly the same size so there are no options on the sizes. I do think they could improve on activities and have some more specialized staff to do them. Overall I would recommend them to others who are looking, they have been very accommodating. The nurses here are absolutely phenomenal and they really know what they are doing and manage things very well.

Complete Care for All Stages of Life for Your Loved One
The community has a lot of activities for residents to It is a great place to place your loved one. Everyone was very communicative, friendly, and helpful. It was easy for me to get any answers I had about my loved one. The community was very clean and smelled great too. They arranged hospice care for my loved one. The owner is very nice as well.

A Wonderful Place
My Mother raised eleven children, and we all wanted to find the best place for her. We searched with more experienced eyes, after much disillusionment with another facility. Mother has been living at the Heritage for over a year now. She has never been more happy, busy, content, and loved. I speak on behalf of my seven brothers and three sisters when I say that we are all thrilled with Mother's exceptional care! We visit regularly at all hours, and find a consistency in the wonderful care Mother receives. I think that it speaks volumes for the Heritage that we do all agree on this. I really appreciate the homey feel that the Heritage provides. I am very impressed with the time and effort the staff invests in the families of the residents. They cultivate and maintain a working relationship with all family members. The staff addresses concerns with care and prompt action. We could not be happier with our choice!

Very pleasant visit. Looked like you were in someone's living room when you walked in, not a reception desk. The office was to the side and an employee came to greet me. [Removed] gave me a wealth of information as we visited in the library room. Interesting decor in hallways ( Lower art of wall a neutral color, with top of each hall a different color to match the theme). Themes: Birds, Harbors, Flowers and Gardens. Each room had a Memory box and a light above it. Lights had a black cut out shade which wrapped around the bulb. The cut-out matched the theme of that hallway. Interesting concept for helping memory. There were large pictures matching each theme on the walls which were very colorful. This facility has only been open since January, 2017. Currently there are 16 residents with 4 moving in within the next week. There are 4 hallways with 16 rooms available on each. Each hallway has its own dining room. I was most impressed with the "Quiet Room". Easy chairs, pillows made of different texture fabric, tiny animals to hold in one's hand and other tactical objects. [Removed] said it is very effective for a couple of the residents who frequently need a place to "meltdown". I was given a menu and sample activity sheet. Did observe several residents playing a game. One gentleman was in his wheelchair watching and he was holding a doll in his lap. [Removed] said they often have to check the resident's rooms, as they tend to carry the dolls, animals and tactical pillows to their rooms! As you can tell I was very pleased with the visit and the environment of the facility. There were several choices of room sizes. Fees are based on the rooms.I feel [Removed] would be very comfortable here.

Best Kept Secret in Memory Care Facilities. THE BEST I'VE SEEN!
I am so impressed with this Memory Care Facility! It has a "family" atmosphere and they have the most caring, compassionate, attentive caretakers I've ever seen. I love that this is NOT a corporate owned facility, which is probably the #1 reason they are so good. I also wanted a "flat fee" rate, where they don't "nickle and dime you" for everything they do. I have met the owner and was very impressed. You can also see the respect and loyalty the staff has to him. The Director told me the same leadership staff has been together since "Day 1", 5 years ago, and they are fully vested in the facility and it's residents. That is SO RARE, and does it ever show! As a family member, I am so totally grateful for the care and attention my dad is receiving. I feel so fortunate that they had an opening (which is pretty rare) when I needed it the most.

Good Interaction
They weren't appropriate for my cousin's situation, but I liked them. They would have been too high for me, too. It looked like they had good activities, they seemed to have interactive stuff which I thought was really nice. Baked cookies and stuff like that too. They weren't really a locked down, and that is what we needed.

A Place for Mom has scored The Heritage of Overland Park 7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
