Southwick Village
My mother has been a resident at Southwick Village since 1996. She started residing in a condominium, then moved to an apartment in [date removed]. Finally she moved to assisted living in [date removed]. She is especially happy with her care givers.

Pet friendly and work very well with family
My father lives in the assisted living section with his chihuahua and I, as his primary caregiver, couldn't be happier. He is doing well much better here than he was doing at home -- both he and the dog get a lot more exercise and social interaction. He is even doing yoga and other community activities.
My mother was actually the first resident of their assisted living room -- unfortunately she passed shortly after arriving. The staff was phenomenally helpful, empathetic, and flexible. They have fantastic relationships with multiple community resources and it helped my family tremendously. With the staff's help, transitioning my father to assisted living after my mother's passing went much smoother than I expected.
I cannot think of better partners for my father's care than the staff at Southwick Village!

Happy Resident
I’ve lived in Southwick Village for 11 years even through a bankruptcy filed by a previous owner. Despite the bankruptcy I am happy I chose to continue living here because I know the current ownership cares about us and provides us with a warm and caring environment. This is especially evidenced in the many things the staff( from the Executive Director, Managers and individual staff) do for us every day. They truly care for us.
My one recommendation is that a Memory Care Unit be added to the facility.

My new home
Southwick Village is a great place to live. You can be as active in the community as you want. There's something for everyone, but the more involved you are the more you get out of the community. I have made many great friends here and the staff here are wonderful!!! There's exercise classes, socials with music, art classes and special activities. You certainly won't be lonely. No place is perfect, but this place is hard to beat!

Great Staff and Community
Southwick Village provides a wonderful community with great staff. As we age in our own homes, we tend to become more isolated. There are lots of activities at the Village, some coordinated and led by staff and others by a small group of residents who wanted to make sure all those living in the cottages felt like part of the community. No place is perfect, but Southwick Village provides a good mix of independence and inclusion.

Our family's experience
It's a nice place for my dad to live, but they were not transparent with their prices when he moved in a year ago, and now they have raised his rent by $[removed] /month, which is outrageous. People are actually moving out of there because they cannot afford it. He is not doing the activities or food there, because it is significantly more rent per month. He is actually going to the Southwick senior center for lunch every day, which is a mile down the road.

When your father moved in, he joined our community as a rental resident, which meant his monthly rate did not include the amenities and services that are part of our standard living packages. As with all residents, we review rates annually, and in this case, an adjustment was made to bring the rental rate closer to current market levels. We understand that rate changes can be difficult, and while we were unable to adjust this increase, our rates remain competitive with other senior living options in the area. We respect your father’s decision to enjoy meals and activities outside the community, and we will continue to support him in making choices that fit his lifestyle! very very disappointed that you would recommend such a facility. The staff is not telling the truth when they do the lease to the people and when you need maintenance you don't get it for months after and also they are unqualified in the office and make many mistakes on the billing

Something to think about
I'll start with the positives. I live in one of the cottages so I'll give you my perspective from there. The area is beautiful. Landscaping well maintained. Snow removal excellent. Weekly trash removal excellent. The main building, the Devin House, is attractive from outside and , as far as I know, well maintained inside. Meals are very good. Staff is courteous, helpful and efficient. Activities are abundant. Here are my only complaints, monthly rent is very high especially for seniors. Rent increases each year when lease renews. Price of meals have gone up. Dining room is short staffed. Two of my cottage neighbors are moving because of high rent. Not enough maintenance staff to take care of all cottages and main building. I understand that a large place such as this has costs also but I am on a fixed income and single. Thought this would be in my budget, which it was, but not after rent increases. Sorry for venting but you did ask. Finally, if they can afford to live here, it is a place I would recommend.

We toured the community for a potential future residence for my mother-in-law. The community specialist was very knowledgeable and shared information clearly. The apartments, though studios, had all amenities needed. Services offered were a benefit. The apartment we saw was clean and well structured for those needing assistance. We visited during a meal time and the residents all looked pleased and engaged. We will definitely consider this community when the time is right for a transition.

I find at this time which is very early on that everything meets my standards and above. Again the only complaint is no dinners on weekends but that is a minor inconvenience but can be handled very easily.

I toured with a friend for their love one. The community has apartments and cottages available. I saw an apartment in the main building and a cottage. The apartments are nice and a good size. The cottages are beautiful with great amenities. Privacy is key as the property is private and overseen by onsite management. I would consider visiting again for my future when ready.

Visited Family - Beautiful Community
We stopped by to visit family members. The community is beautiful and well maintained. We stayed for lunch and had a great time, food was good and waitstaff were very nice and responsive. We are happy to know our loved ones are living in a supportive and beautiful environment.

It's been a while and we still love it
We are current residents who have been here for many years. The current team onsite is responsive, positive and always available. Our cottage is beautiful. We have a two bedroom cottage, big space for us with a full basement for storage and a garage.

A Place for Mom uses the term “assisted living” to indicate that the community provides some level of assistance with daily living activities. It does not indicate that the facility meets official state requirements for level of care.
