Terrible place
This place is horrible. Please don’t let your love one’s be here. The staff is rude! It smells like pee. They do not take care of your loved ones. The staff doesn’t check in on the people there. The staff let patient’s stay in their beds all day and for weeks without getting them up. When family members ask questions they treat you as your a bother and have no right to ask. No doctor on staff like say. Food is cold and awful. Can’t do repairs In timely fashion. They had no hot water for month!! I have nothing good to say about this place!!

Sad, depressing terrible place!
When we chose Ravenna it was largely due to [name removed] the owner, his attitude & enthusiastic approach for caring for mom. We let him know mom was a picky eater, no problem [name removed] said. The staff will make her something to eat. Mom has an old cat, no problem we love cats. [name removed] said they have a nurse & nurse practitioner on staff, no more visits to the doctors office. I believe mom saw [name removed], nurse 3 times then he was gone, never replaced. Mom never saw the nurse practitioner in the 10 months she was living at Ravenna. Things were good for a month or two then went downhill. Once you ask a question of the Mgr [name removed], she gets defensive. I inquired about mom being seen by doctor/nurse practitioner only to realize they don’t have one. Our family understands nothing is perfect but this defensive attitude only got worse and became a detriment to Moms health.Do Not put your loved one here! No hot water for a month. I could go on and on… don’t do it. Now mom has to readjust at a new home.

very good; would go there again
The day after my brother began his stay at Ravenna they went into pandemic CDC status. Just unbelieveably difficult for all of us. When we got to the release of rules by the state I was able to visit him. The care givers were attentive, patient and cheerful. My brother required frequent assistance, was encouraged to participate in activities as long as he was able and many of the residents would talk with him. The staff also accepted me as team's family member. At least that's how I was treated. We talked about his needs and how to resolve them. They were respectful, cheerful and patient.. I appreciated the safe, friendly, and active environment at Ravenna. When my brother passed away, the evening shift was very sweet and supportive. In the following week I was told to come as often as it took and to come visit them. And I do.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a really nice experience nothing bad to say about it at all - but the only room that was really available was right next to the exit and with our loved one having dementia we just did not think that would work out.

Dissatisfied
Our loved ones was only at this community for one week for Respite, the cleanliness of the community was work, but the maintenance was not always kept up. The administration were very friendly and helpful until they had our money. Our calls were never answered, and they were inattentive. The staff as long as i was there were very friendly, our loved one needed help eating due to his Parkinson's, and they would put him at the self eating table, they just did not listen to us. We did pay extra for a two-man lift, and he never had that it was just a one person lift, and at night if he needed help he did not get it.

Very good caretakers
My mother and father were in this facility together. They shared a room. The facility was clean and the staff was ultra great! The staff was caring and i could tell they took their job seriously. The Owners were nice as well. The food at first was delicious. They were in this facility for approximately 3 to 3 1/2 years before they both passed. I steadily saw a decline in the food. It was terrible and the facility had a huge turnover of employees. I cannot say anything bad about the caretakers in the facility. Although, the turnover was big each caretaker that came in was very good. They took really good care of my parents. My father developed dementia and wasnt easy to care for but they did it well. No place is perfect and if that is what you are looking for, you wont find it. This place was the one of the best i could find when researching.

Yesterday was a year since my mother passed. She was a resident at Ravenna for a little over a month. In my opinion, the lack of care at Revenna caused her death. The facility looks nice and they talk a good talk, but it is only talk. They don't have enough caregivers to take good care of their residents and don't seem to care.

Okay
My sister-in-law was there for quite some time. She didn't like the food, staff had a lot of turnover, so hard to keep up with them all. [name removed] has been extremely helpful. New owners were better than the first. [name removed] was helpful as well. Care was somewhat less than desirable. [name removed] was in the hospital a lot while there. She had UTI's all the time. The last one she had, along with a cellulitis infection due to a rubbing of the brace she had to wear on her left leg and foot, landed her in the hospital for about 12 days. She never returned to Ravenna. I know she misses her private room, lots of room for her to maneuver around in her motorized cart.

Cozy and run by great owners!
My friend is here and he wasn’t happy at first but we put pictures up and that seemed to help. It wasn’t the cheapest place but it seemed to be reasonable. The staff is easy to communicate with and knowledgeable about the kind of care that he needs. The first week, he really liked the food but now he doesn’t really like not being able to have food that isn’t bland. There just doesn’t seem to be any taste to it. He seems moderately happy though. They’ve invited me twice to go do a few activities with them. They have a monthly calendar filled with things to do. Housekeeping is in his room every day vacuuming and making sure the toiletries are filled. They even do his laundry for him. The rest of the facility is kept pretty clean. I think [Removed] (the co-owners of the facility) were really the big reason for us choosing here. They’re friendly and they were more than happy to show me everything they had whenever we were doing the initial interview. I met [Removed] on the walkway while he was unloading his car and he was just a really friendly guy. I don’t care if the service is bad, I’m happy with [Removed] the most. [Removed] is fantastic and answers any questions that you might have and they send me fliers once a month to keep me up to date with everything. The thing that really brought me here was that it’s a smaller facility, only about 38 rooms, and they’ve got 16 staff members during the day and 12 during the night. It just feels cozier. Really, I don’t have a bad thing to say about them!

Much better now
Ravenna Assisted Living is a clean well-kept community. At the beginning, we were having issues with her medications not being administered properly and she had a brief stay at the hospital. She seems to be doing much better now. She seems to be improving and she is now able to use the wheelchair on her own. She has been participating in the activities they offer, she enjoys knitting and the painting classes. She really likes the meals that they provide. We do not live close by but the staff does their best in communicating with the family of what is going on with her care and how she is settling in. She recently was able to go outdoors and enjoy the scenery around the community.

Feels like Home
My aunt is diabetic and immobile. The Ravenna team is caring and kind. I like the fact that so many of the care givers have been there for years. They do not seem to have a lot of turnover. My aunt thinks the food is ok. The activities are fun and varied. She has made friends and feels like she's included in things. She is social and enjoys meeting people, which has helped during this transition. Overall, Ravenna is a good, clean safe place for my aunt. Thank you

The Call Button Is An Issue
My mom is ok and she just started Physical Therapy. I like the activities. The only problem we have is when she presses the call button and no one shows up. I had to call the community and tell them they are not answering her pager. There are many times they haven't got her for dinner even after pressing the call button to get help to the dining room. The director know this issue and we are waiting for improvements. However it is clean and she is getting the care.

Ravenna is a clean, and bright facility. My grandma really enjoys the outdoor courtyard, where she likes to spend quite a bit of time. The caregivers are patient and truly care about their residents. The owners have made the transition to put her in a facility as smooth and seamless as possible.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the New Mexico regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about New Mexico regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Ravenna Assisted Living 5.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
