Review for Oasis at the Atrium
Communication during and after the move-in process was challenging. More structured and proactive communication regarding needed supplies would be beneficial, as family members are often responsible for coordinating purchases from a distance. The current process for identifying and obtaining essential daily living items could be improved to ensure needs are communicated clearly and consistently. Regular status updates, not only when issues arise, would be appreciated, particularly for family members who live far away and are unable to visit frequently. In-person visits from immediate family members are limited due to age, work obligations, and other personal responsibilities, making consistent communication from the community especially important. The staff is very kind and attentive to our family member. Overall we are pleased with Alaris.

Happy with our choice
The staff and facility are very helpful. The facility is very clean and safe. The room is large and comfortable. I believe there could have been a better onboarding process. It would have been helpful to have a list or packet explaining what was needed to furnish the rooms and supplies that the client was expected to provide. There was also a disconnect on providing prescribed medications when transferred from the rehabilitation facility. It took several days to be rectified. Overall we are happy with our choice.

Great, caring staff
What I appreciated most was the dedication of the aides as well as the administration's willingness to help us work within our budget. I do wish there had been more activities, especially in the memory care unit where my aunt spent her last two weeks.

Quality option at a reasonable cost
The facility management is very flexible about money as well as about special situations. For example, we had to move my aunt into the memory care unit, but management came up with the idea of allowing her to participate in activities on the assisted living side. That said, I feel there are not enough activities in memory care itself and the assisted living side could use more too.

Great value, nice neighborhood
I would tell others looking into Alaris Health at the Atrium that it is best to visit and take a tour. Helps to get a feel for the atmosphere. The value for the money was the main reason we chose this facility for our loved one.

Very good care despite staff shortage
There was serious staff shortage, which cut into response time and the amount of time aides could spend with residents or patients who might require more help. Not true only of Atrium, of course. My brother, sister, and/or I were there every day. Several of the aides were wonderful despite their heavy workload. The care from the Compassionate Care hospice nurses and aides was great, and they coordinated with the Atrium team, team, although we could have used more hospice aide time (one hour or so in the mornings). Food was a bit inconsistent; some very good, some not. My mom was put on a non-solid diet for the last few weeks because her bottom partial denture broke; that was awful. Also, she barely ate (or drank) for several weeks. The food staff were very nice about that.) My mom was confined to her bed the entire three months after the third day she was admitted until she passed, she was very tired when she was awake, had some dementia, so was unable to participate in any activities. She slept much of the time. We were pleased with the care she received at the Atrium, although it wasn't as fancy or "luxurious" as others we saw. It was a few blocks from where I live in Jersey City, so that was a big factor I choosing it,and we didn't regret it.

Positive experience
They have been very good and attentive to our daughter. I think it has been a good situation overall. We liked all of the staff who work here. We are a long distance away from her and we feel she is well taken care of. They have been great with communication. We have requested they hire different therapists and they have been good with that and give great feedback on them since we cannot be there. I would definitely recommend Alaris Health at The Atrium to others looking. I will say that the facility needs some cosmetic updates.

Everything we need
They still have some covid restrictions so there has not been many activities. They have loosened up some of the restrictions and opened up limited visitation. The activities that my loved one has done he enjoys. Definitely worth the money. So far they have given my loved one very good and meticulous care. They are not crowded and there is a high staff to resident ratio.

Wonderful Place
My husband has been at Alaris Health Atrium for four years. I can't praise them or thank them enough. The administration is always friendly, accessible, and responsive. The staff is extremely competent and caring. The facility is clean and attractive with a five story atrium and a couple of large terraces for safe outdoor access. I'm truly impressed by the care and kindness they've given my husband.

I have no complaints of how things had went for my loved one and I during our tour of this community. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to answer any questions I had for them in detail. I liked the open floor plan and all of the great amenities for the residents. The staff where professional and I did not feel pressured what so ever. It was just no the right fit for us in the end decision but I would recommend it to anyone.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know New Jersey’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about New Jersey’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Oasis at the Atrium 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies.
