Being that I have experience with two facilities, I would say to all people who are looking for a care facility that every Assisted Living facility is going to have its shortcomings. It is a very tough business to house, feed, and provide care for an elderly person with disabilities such as Dementia. Some are better at certain parts of the care of our loved ones than other parts of the care. This facility has beautiful grounds and amenities. The resident rooms are very luxurious. The bathrooms were designed for a person with special needs, like a walk in shower. My wife and I commented how we wouldn't mind having one of their rooms for ourselves. The people that provide care services are in general pretty good people. But like any profession, there are those who might not be as proficient, or caring, as others (i.e. you might do things a little different than them). This is where most of the shortcomings happen. You could see what management intended to happen, but in reality was not executed very well by the staff. That may be because of the mounds of responsibilities heaped on the staff. So some things fall through the cracks. This facility provided a much better product than our previous facility, as far as the food. As an overall feeling, Oakmont had a great vibe. It was a happy place that when you walked in the door you got a genuine sense of community. They planned fun outings and and were always changing it up with the décor of the season and holding events at the facility like musical entertainment on a Friday evening. I know my mom was happy living at Oakmont.
