One of the first things I noticed during our tour was the detail and care given to maintaining the property. The chair rail was clean of dust. I also appreciated that all residents and staff who was walking around the residence. People were engaged and chatty. My family made friends with other residents and staff. We were welcome at activities. Suggestions we made were listened to. The resident wanted more bingo so they added another day of bingo. I suggested a glamour photo session. we made it low-key where the staff brought in fun scarves and hats, and we took photos with the resident personal device. They serve drinks and snacks and we had a great time. \nIt was a morning caregiver who hadn't heard from Grandma and went to get her out of bed, Grandma suffered a stroke and the staff within one hour had assessed the situation, called 911, got Grandma to the hospital, and notified me her POA. Madison House checked in on us. Grandma passed away [date removed] of a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Staff and residents had grown to love grandma in the short time she lived at Madison House. We were shown lots of love. \nMy family rates, all categories a 5. They invite Grandma and her family to activities. They sit down at her table for breakfast to have a conversation. The staff strives for a culture of positive attitude. Even as a family member who visits probably far too often the residents and staff treat me as a friend. Oh, for one specific example of how the staff and residents react to feedback. We read the rulebook about dining room, etiquette for family and friends. The rules have shifted due to Covid. Since we are new, we were trying to find out what the rules are and found out you sit in a specific area and the guest of a resident can pay the front desk or charge meals to the room. When we tried to follow the procedure, some of the staff are new, they were unaware and management took it as a training opportunity. As a guest, we were treated with respect and kindness. It didn't feel awkward. I appreciate the open communication. We've had some challenges in learning how to communicate with the staff, it hasn't been anything serious, just miscommunication and us not remembering or understanding scope of job duties. The staff and us have always figured out a way to understand each other. It allows us experience of growing together with the Madison House community. And just recently the staff showed their capabilities. I desire to obtain a nice photo of my grandma; since Covid we don't have any really good pictures you know. So I asked [name removed] there if they do a picture day. Well, [name removed] asked [name removed] the activities director to create a picture day and they already have it on the schedule. This way residents can all have a nice photo of themselves to either pass out for family or display in their unit.
