Our Experience
The cost was overwhelming. With creative financing we were able to afford it but I truly feel for those who can't. I'm not singling out El Rio. They are all like that. Based on the experience, we would recommend El Rio Memory Care to other families.

El Rio is a memory care community with a Spanish-style exterior and charmingly furnished interior. Operated by the family-owned and experienced Koelsch Senior Communities, El Rio is committed to delivering high-quality care in a purposeful environment. Near the community, residents can find anything they’ll ever need: medical centers, grocery stores, restaurants, and a shopping mall.
Professional and licensed care staff is available around the clock to provide immediate care. The licensed nursing staff offers health screenings, medication management, respite care, and more. The specialized memory care approach uses four techniques — gaze, speech, touch, and verticality — that promote a holistic ethos of care for each resident.
The community’s comprehensive program — Living WellⓇ — focuses on wellness and entertainment all at once. The program uses seven pillars and offers purposeful activities that enable residents to experience moments of joy and connection. Short Term
My Father only spent 4 days at El Rio. He passed away 4 days after entering the facility. My experience with [name removed] the Sales Director was great. The staff was amazing! The facility was clean and spacious. The care even though short for my father was good.
The rates were comparable to other facilities that seemed not as nice.
I would recommend El Rio to others in need of a Memory Care Facility.

Dedicated memory care is so much better, but is going to cost more because it offers so much more...
A dedicated memory care facility is so much better than a memory care unit "tacked on" to an assisted living facility... because the patients have access to the entire building...grand entry, libraries, private dining, nicer dining etc. Of course, the cost is higher, but really so much more appealing...

Peace of mind
My 87 yr old sister , moved in on Friday, [date removed] ! For the first time in three yrs. she is smiling and so happy to be in her new home ! She has made friends quickly ! The staff is so professional yet so personal , meeting their residents needs , likes and dislikes ! The special attention to every detail , has put our family at ease about if we made the right choice for her ! We did indeed make the right choice ! Compassion wins
My mother lived at El Rio Memory Care for 15 months before her death. Never have I seen a facility that is driven by patient care and compassion for each and every resident like at El Rio!!
My mother told me regularly and unprompted how nice everyone is to her there and how happy she was. The nursing staff is professional and friendly and invaluable!!
El Rio gave my mother 15 happy months before her death. She felt safe and loved in her home. She was both.

My experience so far
We chose El Rio because the director was willing to come in on her day off and do a zoom tour for us. They answered all of our questions and you could tell that it was a nice facility. I could not go into the facility until a few weeks ago because of covid, but once I was able to go in it is very clean. The room that she has is a good size for what she needs. They do have some fun activities, I know she has been on a few bus rides and for example tomorrow they are having a Father's Day barbecue. I would recommend to other families who are looking.

What a great place! I know that my father will be very happy at El Rio. It is staffed with caring and knowledgeable people. It is clean and at the times of my visits - quiet! I know that the peace can be upset at any time but there isn't the constant chaos that some other facilities have.

Mom is happy here
This is a brand new community. They are keeping mom active with limited exercises. They are always engaging her to join the daily activities they will give them choices. The caregivers really care and it means something to them. The cleanliness is spectacular. They offer a shuttle to get to the doctor or the grocery store if needed. They have motion and light sensors everywhere which make her feel safe. I would recommend this community to families.
