There was a lot of turnover in some of the staff for important positions towards the end of 2023. I am not sure I'd rate it as high if my mom had stayed long. It would have depended on if things had settled down.

Best Value & Lifestyle in OC
Lively Staff & Socialization. Many opportunities for all disabilities and abilities to join in different events. ADA accessibility and transportation support is outstanding. I'm not sure they can improve much on the food, since most of these are cardiac diet requirements. However, I would say they could help those with disabilities get cut food or handheld food options easier. They also need more wait staff in dining, specifically.

Review for Coastal Heights Senior Living
The moving-in and -out process was smooth. Management was great to me. Meals ran the range - blah to okay to really good at times. Met some wonderful people there. Met some people willing to take advantage of your ability to drive. Their prices are lower than similar places in the area; apparently they run on a different business model to accomplish that. All-in-all it was exactly what I needed as a temporary transition residence.

Perfect Home
As a family member, I have been very impressed with the staff and facilities at Coastal Heights. My aunt has lived here for the last 3 months and she feels safe, secure and looked after. There are a variety of food choices each day and many different activities to engage in. My aunt has been enjoying the weekly Bible Study and is slowly getting to know some of the other residents. [name removed], the director of Coastal Heights, is involved in many of the activities and it is common to see her during the Social Hour on Fridays. The receptionists at the front desk have all been nice and I always get a quick answer to any of my questions. We are so glad to have discovered Coastal Heights. It is a wonderful home for seniors.

My concept of independent living is different from others.
The facility itself is beautiful. Inside and out.lots of activities offered, daily. The Chef is even open to accommodating my vegetarian diet, which, of course, has made me feel much better. The one thing that bothers me about this facility, and most others, I must say, is their definition of INDEPENDENT LIVING. I’ve learned that most of the residents are at least 20y older than I am, in wheelchairs or using walkers. Some seem demented, confused, in their own world. I feel totally out-of-place. I wanted to try living in a “senior “ community because I’m tired of going through holidays alone. Tired of noisy kids and their parents. But, I never planned to live among people as I’ve previously described. I feel that for this reason, I was misled. There weren’t a lot of other residents around during my tours either.Upon moving in, due to excessive moving stress, I seriously thought of moving out. Decided to make the most out of it for now.

We are very, very pleased. I've eaten with my brother a few times. Food is great; very tasty. Wonderful friendly service. Coastal Heights is a terrific home for my brother. Professional staff, friendly and caring people. The activity director has many fun things to do daily for the residents. It is safe, always clean, residents are mobile and greet me when I visit. I am very pleased that my brother is there!

A sad senior!
l did rate my overall experience as 4 because I made wonderful friends with fellow residents in the year I was at coastal heights. The cleanliness was not consistent. They had a lot of staffing issues and there were weeks that our apartments were not cleaned. Also the dining room was always dirty. Because they allow pets, sometimes there would be pee in the elevators and and even incidents of feces mishaps in the hallways. I did rate the staff as a 5 for friendliness Because they were. Especially the front desk staff. I rated quality of care as a 3, when I went to see the apartments for rent I was told that it was independent living for active seniors. Once I moved in, I discovered that not only were there a number of residents with memory issues who would wander around not being able to even find their rooms, but there were residents there on hospice and could stay there till they passed. Needless to say, I didn’t sign up for that. Food I rated as 2. The quality was overall not good. Many of us ate a lot of their hamburgers and hot dogs because there other food was not so good. The activities were okay. The happy hours every afternoon and entertainment on Fridays gave us the opportunity to mingle. That was fun. Value for money I rated as 3. With the cleanliness an issue and the food not too good, really was a problem. I was willing to overlook all that just to stay with my friends, but my rent was increased $[removed] a month after only being there a year. I couldn’t afford to stay. It really made me sad. I miss interacting with other seniors.

My loved one is a resident at Coastal Heights Senior Living and overall everything has been very good for her. The staff is attentive and caring, despite the circumstances of the resident. They're courteous to all family/loved ones who visit. All of the staff that I have met seem genuinely concerned about all of the residents at Coastal Heights. I would recommend this facility to others.

Friendly Staff
The people are nice and offer some nice activities but it's expensive and the food service is poor. They do special events for holidays and have movie nights and different games. They offer a bus service to take people off grounds but it's challenging for some because the way they time it and don't offer assistance for people who may need it. They have exercise classes and a woman who does hair and nails which is nice.

Coastal Heights Senior Living review
It's a very friendly place and a happy atmosphere. They clean each apart weekly and are so friendly and kind. My only complaint is they will say they are hosting poker, for example, then my dad goes and no one is there. I just wish they would offer more lively and fun activities with follow through. Overall great price, nice atmosphere, awesome rooms, very clean and friendly. Every person at the front desk is warm and welcoming. A nice place!!

The people that work here are great. The apartments are small, but, have upgraded appliances and special touches. We don't seem to have very good insulation. Lots of noise from apartments above!! The food is nice. One very good thing is they have underground parking for everyone. The maintenance man is swamped right now. They are trying to hire!

Best decision I've ever made.
I couldn't recommend another facility more for the price. I trust having my family member stay there. All the staff have been very helpful. They don't treat their community members like random people. They all have names and hobbies and personalities that are unique. And the staff recognize each person's uniqueness. They engage with their clientele and don't just collect a check and move on. The apartments are beautiful, newly renovated, and spacious. They have cleaning staff that helps out. There is access to emergency cords if needed. Living on her own for the first time at age 99, I'm grateful that my loved one can still have her independence, and we don't have to take that away from her.

A Place for Mom has scored Coastal Heights Senior Living 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
