Our family was very pleased with Avery Village. It was an agonizing decision for us to place our mother in a memory care facility. Our first meeting with the director put us at ease. She came in and made us feel that we were making the right decision. Once mother got to the home, she became alive again. Being with her peers and enjoying the activities that she could participate in. Each and every one of the nurses, caregivers, and directors made her feel special and made us feel special too. They always welcomed us to come into the facility at any time and we never felt that we were unwanted. The facility itself has been renovated, painted, new flooring and furniture and is a bright and happy place. If there was any problems or we had any questions, they were fixed and answered in a prompt and timely manner. We came to love the staff in the short time that Mom was there and they grieved as we grieved when Mom passed. It is a very compassionate and wonderful place.
About the facility Avery Village
Avery Village, our Winterville senior living community, has recently received a beautiful renovation! We continue to provide thoughtful, compassionate care in a warm, lively community. We develop individual care plans to meet the needs of each resident. Nursing staff is available 24 hours a day to provide clinical oversight and coordination of care. We welcome pets and help our residents flourish by offering a variety of activities, such as live entertainment, crosswords, board games, bingo, therapy dogs, arts and crafts, movies, daily exercise programs, and church services. They won't keep up their property
The American flag out front hasn't been fixed in months... all the stripes on the flag are going in their own directions. I asked them about it, and they said the flag pole pulley was broken. MORE THAN 3 MONTHS to fix this problem and they haven't.

Much recommended facility
Avery Village cared for my mom for 2 years before she passed. She spent time in both the Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities in the building. I cannot praise enough the wonderful administration and staff! They treated my mom with dignity and respect, and always went out of their way to help her in any way they could…truth! Avery has a “down home” feel to it, and everyone is super nice and friendly. The food prepared by the chef is great, and my mother, a picky eater, enjoyed the meals and actually put on some weight when she was there. The facility is located in a small town that has a park across the street, that hosts a Saturday market which is also an attractive feature. In summary, if you are looking for a facility for your loved one, don’t hesitate to consider Avery Village as your choice. The strength of these types of facilities lies in the staff, and Avery excels in this regard.

Our family's experience was such that we could recommend this place only if standards for patient care were improved....
Best thing was their friendliest. Need improvement on telling the truth, in following through on promises, in keeping their word, and mostly on patient care when they're to ill to call for and demand attention. Ex. AC did not work in patient's room so portable one brought in with promise it would be fixed tomorrow. Blew very cold air in one spot and so loud conversation was difficult. Never got fixed. Ex. 2. Promised neck-chain alert was never provided nor substituted.
Ex. 3 Sick patient was allowed to lay 6 hours without anyone even opening his door to even look in. Our family's experience was such that we could recommend this place only if standards for patient care were improved and honesty became their policy.

Sad but true!
I had a friend that decided to move here with the help of [name removed]promises she would be in great hands . What a horrible mistake that was! She ended up living here for a year and some change before I was able to get her out. She became so depressed and crying every time I would leave. This place sucked the life outta her. She literally became bedridden while she was here. Each time I visited I never saw the same caretaker. I wouldn't leave my dog here! There is a Happy ending... I moved my friend out in [date removed]and she has her joy back she's smiling now and she is well taken care of. What a difference I she in her! I wouldn't recommend this place for no one you care for!

I would never recommend Avery place to any family. They need to hire more educated caretakers for the common room provide for the residents That. need to be turned in their beds. There are no available assistants to leave the common room to go to the rooms that are bedridden to turn that resident. I found that the meals that were sparse in amount

Our family had an in person tour and all the staff we met with were very informative and receptive to our questions and concerns. However we just did not see that much interaction and stimulation with the residents on the memory care side so it was just not going to be the best fit.

Overall pleased
We decided on Avery Place because they were closest to home. We walked through the facility and we liked what we saw and they seemed to be very on top of things. It is a small facility and I think they do really well. The food that they fix looks great but my mother does not eat much. They are supposed to have house cleaning and we had to remind them to clean the toilets and the floor has still yet to vacuumed. They have pretty much done everything that they said they were going to do but could improve on the cleaning.

The director was the one who gave us the tour and we really liked her and got along well. The facility itself was lovely. The only reason we did not choose them was due to the further location from where I am.

We enjoyed our virtual tour. The staff seem really nice. Our only problem with the place is that they don't really have good options for a couple. The rooms are fairly small, and there are no rooms with a separate sitting area.

Love Avery Place!
Avery Place and their staff are absolutely outstanding! The facility is very clean and the residents really enjoy living there. I have came into Avery to do activities with their residents and you can tell that the facility is filled with so much love. I would highly recommend Avery Place to anyone looking for placement!

Does the new Executive director know what she is doing? I asked for some information and it took me going up to Avery Place only to have to wait on her to make a call to ask someone else for the answer. Did she even make the effort weeks ago when I asked or just then when I was tired of waiting on her and showed up. Get it together. Other than that the staff is always helpful.

Mom loves all the activities and the small community is perfect for her. She is more involved and engaged than at her previous Assisted living facility. I appreciate the fact that it is closer to my house and have enjoyed joining in the activities.

I had a great tour. I could feel how much love the memory care director has for her residents. I really like the facility. She was very helpful and friendly. I got to meet some very sweet ladies who live there. I am definitely considering moving my mom here. The only hold back is trying to decide if the only spot available will be a good fit til she can change rooms.
