Compared to the larger facilities we felt that the smaller Aspen felt more home like and she would not be shut away in an apartment. The other facilities offered features she didn't need and we didn't want to pay for.

Recommended
My loved one was previously a resident at Aspen Woods of Vernon Hills. Overall, the staff were great, friendly and helpful but they were usually understaffed. The food, as in most similar places, is not very good.
All in all, I would recommend Aspen Woods of Vernon Hills to others.

Very good experience
I found them to be very helpful in assisting my wife who is disabled and in late stage Alzheimer’s. The move went smoothly. They have stimulating activities for the residents that ate appropriate for people in her condition. I would recommend AW for anyone in need of memory care.

Generally, we have been happy except for a few instances involving caregivers and jewelry that went missing off of my mom's neck. There were also some issues during the transition. We appreciate the sense of community among the family members who visit.

Seriously Fabulous
Aspen Woods has been amazing in the care of my dad. He is healthy, as active as he can be, clean, and looked after by the most attentive caregivers, nurses, directors, and staff. His room is clean and organized, his clothes and beddings are washed regularly. My only complaint is minor, he can be shaved more often and his nails trimmed more often but that is so minor. Overall, I am very appreciative of the care given to my dad. Thank you so much!!!

Cannot have it any better at Aspen Woods!
Aspen Woods was the answer when our family was going through our toughest time. My dad's dementia worsened to the point where it was not safe for him, nor us, at home. I had already arranged for a live-in caretaker and I am glad we did not go that route! Aspen Woods provides a schedule of activities and events... and the opportunity for him socialize! This is so important for people with dementia.
Everyone that works there is so genuine and looks out for the well being of their residents... which transcends to the residents looking out for the well being of each other! Something truly special.

From the initial meeting with the Executive Director, our family had an immediate connection with her and the overall program(s) offered at Aspen Woods. Her hands on approach from staff to residents shows her unequal commitment to the health, happiness, and safety of the residents and their families.
The facility is extremely well maintained, clean, well organized; every single staff member is friendly, knowledgeable and approachable, regardless of the need.
The Activities Director is at the heart and soul of the residence, and residents - her energy, her heart, her 1:1 interactions & understanding of every resident everything she does, every single day, makes our worlds a brighter place.
The BHR is equally approachable, knowledgeable and goes the extra mile. she's even made personal visits/evaluations at the hospital.
We cannot be happier with Aspen, the energy, the staff, facilities & volunteers, we would highly recommend Aspen to anyone researching memory care facilities!

Caution! If the Nurses Have to Work Hard for The Ones That Need Help, They'll Find a Way to Get You to Change Facilitie
They can only handle those who are placid. If anyone gets antsy or needs extra help they either send them to the hospital and tell the hospital they can't comeback or make you hire personal caregivers because they are "so busy". She needed to be checked to see if she had an UTI. The nurses didn't do it. After 4 days, I complained so the Marketing Director took care of it. They let her get out of the building. She made it to the Fire Department and they brought her back.

We were very satisfied with the place, and it was clean. Staff was wonderful. We picked this community, because of the activity we saw when we toured, the brightness of the rooms, watching the staff intermingle with patients. I have recommended it to people that I know.

We had a wonderful tour experience with Charter Senior Living Vernon Hills. There was not one negative thing about it. All of the staff were terrific! I would have been just as comfortable placing my loved one here.

Some growing pains but overall a positive experience.
Overall it has been a positive experience, with some growing pains. Things aren't perfect but the staff are generally responsive, professional, and taking good care of my loved one. It is a huge improvement over the previous facility we tried, which was extremely understaffed.

Not great experience
They handle people with Dementia and there all aspects of Dementia.
They say can take in these types of cases but they just end up sending those patients to the hospital and need to work on getting them assistance in house and not send those to hospital.
I was advised they were good at redirecting but we constantly had issues, especially with the locked door system. My mother was able to get out of the facility and at one point walked to fire station.
Overall was not pleased with the experience our family had with this facility.

Care for my M Mother-in-Law
We brought our loved one here at the end of her life when she was declining rapidly. We just wish we had brought her here sooner! They were very helpful with us transitioning to that end of life care. They were always there to help. We were able to stay with her and be with her, even during Covid. They would bring us trays of snacks and would check on us. They were just very caring.

I chose Charter Senior Living because I was impressed with the staff interaction with the residents and it also seemed that they were better at maintaining and taking care of the property. They have an amazing activities director, she is over the top wonderful and she will bend over backwards on her day off to help. They have a great group of staff members who work here. The director is very responsive to any questions or concerns that I have. I would definitely recommend them to others.
