She'd come from an assisted living facility with an attached memory care unit, but they did not know how to handle her and her Alz-related behaviors. The memory care facility attached was beyond our means. She would have been out of money in less than 8 months. So, finances were a factor as well. Windrose has a low-income program for residents who run out of money.We would say we received an overwhelming flurry of texts and phone calls when we went on the A Place for Mom site. We had started looking into nursing homes for my mom when [name removed] at Windrose called. We almost dismissed her, saying we think we're looking at a nursing home. But something told us not to hang up. When we told her all our concerns, she made it sound like Windrose was absolutely the place for someone with Alzheimer's and bad knees. She worked with us to find a way to make it work, both financially and physically. In assisted living, my mother was alone in her apartment many days, and she was fearful being alone. At Windrose, they make sure their residents are up and out of their rooms, in a community with other people. My mother's physical and cognitive issues remain, but emotionally she's doing much better. She is happy once she's out and about with other residents.
