Great facility but the food needs to improve
Mom likes the activities and friendships she has made. The location is great and the facilities are maintained well. The food is awful. We keep thinking it will improve and occasionally it is good but the vast majority of the time it is very bad

It’s great if you like waiting an hour and half for your meal
My parents are at Waltonwood. The number one complaint I have heard heard over the last two years is how bad the food and food service are. The chef and wait staff are awesome. The problem seems to be the administration and corporate in that there is always an excuse, they don’t seem to care, and do nothing to make it up to residents that are paying top dollar for this food. I would have paid closer attention to this when touring facilities and I would things differently if I had it to do over again. Make sure the reviews you read are current. This was not a problem when they first opened. Additionally, my Mom has repeatedly had a roach problem in her kitchen.

Wonderful Community!
My 97-year-old widowed mother has found such a wonderful home at Waltonwood. We looked at several independent living communities; none can compare to the warmth, care, and sense of community here. From the staff to the residents, everyone is welcoming and supportive. My mom enjoys her meals, social activities, and daily companionship, which makes all the difference at this stage of life. The team ensures she is well cared for while encouraging her independence. As her daughter, I know she is safe, happy, and surrounded by people who genuinely care. Waltonwood is more than just a residence—it’s a community, and I couldn’t imagine a better place for my mom to call home.

OK, but not great!
A pleasant facility! Pleasant staff! No community area to meet casually and chat! Breakfast twice a week! Lunch for sale! The bread was flimsy and all sandwiches fell apart!! Except for BLT! But they were often out of bacon! The dining room was pleasant but after 9 months we needed a change. The menus had few changes took too long to serve and was often cold! We were excited to have a nurse on call 24/7 and a visiting Dr 2 days every week! they had cancelled that program by the time we moved in! It was expensive and did not come through with promises! The traffic pattern in every direction was frustrating! We much preferred [community removed] and enjoy Chapel hill so much more than Raleigh????

The right move
I came here because my husband died unexpectedly. We had discussed making the move together. I am happy to be here among a group of friendly people. Every staff member I have spoken to has been nice and helpful. I enjoy the food, eating with the friends I’ve made, and the waitstaff is friendly too. I am also starting to take advantage of the numerous activities available. Overall, I am happy; this was the right move.

Waltonwood Lake Boone Trail
My parents have recently moved to Waltonwood Lake Boone Trail, and I could not be more pleased with the decision. The staff and management are so kind, caring and helpful. They go above and beyond to make residents feel like family. Because of this the transition to independent living has been a smooth one for my parents. They love their new home! Resident ambassadors meet with new residents to welcome them and introduce them to current residents. They encourage newcomers to join activities and become a part of the community. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained. There are so many wonderful activities including special events where families are invited. There was recently a "Camp Waltonwood" for grandchildren. It was beautifully decorated and the activities for the children were wonderful. A good time was had by all! I would highly recommend Waltonwood to anyone that is looking for independent living.

Highly Recommend Waltonwood Lake Boone - IL
As a long-time friend/loved one of a resident at Waltonwood Lake Boone IL (WLB) for several months now, I can happily and confidently recommend it to any senior desiring a professional, beautiful, clean, safe and well managed community in the Triangle area. I visit frequently and am always greeted and treated as family by the staff - that's so refreshing! It's also comforting to know my loved one has great neighbors on the hall and is encouraged to participate in the many resident programs/activities offered every day - never a dull moment! And I always enjoy when we're invited to special meals - the food at WLB is awesome. In closing, I'll just say that this family feels fortunate to have our loved one at WLB IL and to know that when the time comes, Waltonwood's AL and MC are available options all on the same campus!! I hope this personal testimony will speak to anyone considering WLB IL as their next home! :)

Bigger is not better
Waltonwood at Lake Boone is the 4th retirement complex we’ve lived in. Though we don’t consider ourselves to be experts on the subject, we do feel we are very knowledgeable. We’ve learned bigger is not necessarily better. Living amongst 1600 residents stymies developing new friendship as you rarely see the same people at various events. Also, “large” means just that - LARGE” ! Many of the perks, like a drugstore, bank, or restaurants, can be so far away that it is simpler to drive to them than to walk. Waltonwood is a perfect fit in a perfect location . Medical offices and a reputable hospital are minutes away. We realized, due to size, we made more friends here in a month than we did in a year at other places. It feels good to recognize faces everywhere you … What makes Waltonwood truly special is the friendliness of it’s residents and staff alike. It doesn’t take long before you feel you are a part of one big happy family and they all call Waltonwood home.

Responsive and accomodating
Our father had to move to our current town from the hometown where he had spent all his life. The Waltonwood community welcomed him, and staff there did all they could to help him transition. We were always pleased with the responsiveness when we needed an issue addressed. The community is beautiful and offers a multitude of activities for residents to engage. I always recommend Waltonwood to friends whose parents are needing to move somewhere at this stage of life.

Waltonwood Lake Boone is a phenomenal place for your senior loved ones. My Aunt spent 3 1/2 years in the independent living area and we could not have been more satisfied.. The food was awesome and provided Aunt [name removed] with a good and healthy diet. The events and activities provided her with something to do on a daily basis. Nice things at Lake Boone
Both of my parents have been at Lake Boone for 22 months. Unfortunately, my father passed away in April of this year. My mother is still in independent living at quite happy. The staff does an amazing job with working and helping the residents. My brother and I both live out of state and quite happy they decided to move to Lake Boone where they are watched and taken care of by the staff. I would recommend Lake Boone to others looking for a place to live for their later years in life.

Living at Waltonwod Lake Boone
I am very happy at Waltonwood Lake Boone - come Octobder I will have been here 6 years. I love the activities, the movies every weekend and some during the week. We play lots of games, bridge, have a Ladies Tea on Saturday and many meetings for the men. The food is outstanding in the Dining Room, we eat on white tableclothes with linen napkins. We have Happy Hour every Wednesday and can take our wine to our table every night. It's a very friendly place and very much is HOME to me. I can have my children eat in the Dining Room or we have a private Dining Room where we can eat on Special Occasions. I love having lunch on my balcony over- looking our Courtyard - it is beautiful out there. We have housekeeping every other week. And we have a full-time Gym Teacher whom we all love and appreciate. There is a Concierge on duty 24 hours a day to assist us with whatever we might need after hours. This is HOME and I am pleased to be here.

Wonderful Community
I am writing on behalf of my Mother who moved into the Lake Boone Waltonwood (Independent Living) community three months ago. After a lengthy search, touring 12 facilities in the Raleigh area, we settled on Waltonwood-Lake Boone. My Mother could not be happier with her choice. She moved from an IL community in Florida and did not know anyone when she moved in. Since that time, she has made friends and has been welcomed by friendly, caring residents. The ambassador program was an especially nice feature as it created opportunities for my Mother to meet other residents and navigate her new community. My Mother has always been an excellent cook and enjoys high quality food. She has been very pleased with the meals. She has also enjoyed card games, book club, fitness classes, outings, movies, and many other social events. I could not be happier than to have my Mother at Waltonwood!

Moving my Mom to Waltonwood
It's been a little over a year since my wife and I moved my 94 year old mother to Waltonwood , We moved to Raleigh from Chicago and combined our move with moving my mother to Raleigh to be close to us. We looked at 5 different lndependent living facilites, having some experience with independent living facilities in Chicago , zeroed in on Waltonwood for the following reasons, the location was within 15 minutes to our new home and approximately 1 1/2 miles to Rex medical center, which was a godsend since Mom needed medical services nine months after moving in. The building is fairly new & well maintained, with continuous cleaning on a daily basis, the facility has an area for outside P.T. and a physical activity gym with classes to keep residents moving. My mother enjoys the arts and crafts class as well as the garden area... while the rent is more than other places we looked at, the attention and friendliness of staff made the move a success with no regrets. Thanks Waltwood !!!!

My days at Waltonwod Lake Boone
I have been a resident here for several years and enjoy it very much. Moving here was a good decision for me. The staff and residents are very friendly, and I enjoy interacting with them on a daily basis. The location is very good for shopping and eating out, as well as convenient for other social activities. The location is very close to Rex Hospital as well as an assortment of other medical offices. I would recommend to anyone who is tired of taking care of things on their own, cooking, home maintenance, and who just want to sit back and enjoy their time among friends.

Grateful
I am enjoying WaltonWood Lake Boone Independent Living and knowing when and if necessary I can move into Assisted Living and Nursing Care. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. The staff has our best interest at heart and the residents are a fabulous group of interesting, independent people. The cleaning and maintenance crews keep the place spick and span. Transportation is provided for doctor visits and for shopping. We have a choice of our own doctors or using the medical help offered on site. The many interesting and fun activities shared together for bodies and minds help to keep us up and moving. The buffet breakfast and delicious choices for dinner are served in the lovely formal dining room. I think it is a great place for retires and the location is ideal.

Waltonwood is a nice place. My parents feel safe. The staff is alert and attentive to their needs. The staff is also very kind. The management works hard to communicate with the residents. There are many interesting activities scheduled. The management takes an active roll in offering different activities that respond to the residents interests.
