Poor Response to Health Hazard
Beware of bed bugs! My mother had a serious stroke this past Labor Day weekend. She returned to her apartment after a month recovering in the hospital and at rehab to find her apartment infested with bedbugs. An exterminator was sent one week after the infestation was reported. There here was no folow up. My mother’s repeated requests for maintenance to remove an infested sofa and area rug were ignored. Caregivers quit because of allergic reactions to bed bug bites.I had to move my mother to a hotel when the infestation became so severe, her apartment was uninhabitable. She lived there while I renovated my home to make it accessible for her to move in. It’s astonishing to me how little was done to address a public health hazard. My mother had to discard thousands of dollars worth of her possessions, and her requests for fair compensation were ignored. If my mother’s apartment was so severely infested, there's no doubt other apartments and public areas are also affected.

warm, welcoming environment. Nice spacious rooms and good amenities. Plenty of games, movies, and activities!
Our loved one really liked Canterfield and the people and the nurses. The double room is excellent. The meals are not the best, but they really are trying to get their food program in order but hiring is difficult.

My experience
Commonwealth Senior Living is a great place to live and it is very clean. The staff is very friendly and even though I am in independent living, if I need something they make sure. Dining area is very clean and mills are nutritious. I would like to have a cheaper place for my budget.

concern about long-term stay
They have lots of staff turnover. When a patient leaves for hospitalization it is very hard to be re-admitted.
They need to better accommodate wheelchair patients in activities. As to food, they show videos and movies during meals given in the upstairs dining room which is very noisy and distracting.

Above and beyond staff. Gradually, doing updating and doing a great job.
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. For those who do not drive they have transportation, free of charge to grocery stores, medical appointments ETC.
I would recommend Commonwealth at Oak Ridge to others.

I found the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living at Oak Ridge to be friendly and helpful. The move in process was easy and they helped by finding a mover for us. I didn't eat there, but the meals looked good. The cleanliness and quality of care were great. The value for cost was also great. I would recommend this facility to others as the residents always seemed to be enjoying their time there.

Could not have been happier
I could not have been happier with this facility. They were absolutely fantastic, I could not have asked for anyone to have been any more compassionate or caring than these people. I recommended them today to someone. My loved one passed in a weeks time from when he went in..... so compassionate and he didn't want to go to a home but went on and on how much he liked these people and how good they were. Literally couldn't think of anything they could have done that they did not do. He wasn't eating and we mentioned he had eaten pinto beans and liked one day..... the cook literally went home and cooked him some for the next day. They brought us drinks, snacks, etc plus meals since we didn't want to leave him. So kind and loving to him. Commonwealth was very respectful when our loved one passed... because he was a Veteran he was wrapped in flag and escorted out by crematory that picked him up.... they shut down the elevator so we could have privacy and escort him out. I can't express how pleased we were with them.

HORRIBLE
I LEFT COMMONWEALTH SENIOR LIVING 8 WEEKS AGO. THE FACILITY I AM AT NOW IS FIRST CLASS. THE NURSES, PATIENT CARE WORKERS AND MANAGEMENT HAVE GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ROVIDE ME THE BEST CARE. I AM FINALLY GAINIG MY STRENGTH BACK AFTER WHOLESOME MEALS. MY GNAT BITES I HAD AT COMMONWEALTH HAVE HEALED BUT HAVE LEFT SCARS. THE NURSES HERE CHECK MY SKIN WEEKLY TO MONITOR THE HEALING AND MAKE SURE I AM NOT SEPTIC AS A RESULT OF THE BITES.THEY ARE DILIGENT IN LEAVIG MY DOOR LOCKED SO THAT NO ONE FROM MEMORY CARE CAN GET I N BED WITH ME AT NIGHT. I HAVE MADE FRIENDS AND FOUND SUPPORT FROM THEM AND MY THERAPIST TO OVERCOME PTSD BUT NIGHTMARES CONTINUE. I HAVE REPORTED A COMMONWEALTH NURSE TO THR TENNESSEE BOAD OF NURSING FOR DERELICTION OF DUTY. I WILL BE FILING MORE RPORTS WITH THE STATE OF TENNESSEE. I AM NOW HAPPY, SAFE AND WELL CARED FOR .

Great activities and a great place for loved ones
Commonwealth Senior Living is a very clean and well organized community. The staff have been very good helping our loved one with pretty much whatever she needs, if she pushes her little help button they are pretty much there immediately. Sometimes our loved one complains about the meals because they are not homemade, but then other days she absolutely raves about them. Overall she is happy she is getting three squared meals a day. The activities are over the top - the other day they had a kickball contest, they play different card games and board games, they also have this bowling area. There is a link that families can go to to see pictures of their loved ones participating in different activities. The value for the money is excellent and we would most definitely recommend this community to other families.

My tour review
This was a very good tour at this community. The community was a bigger community and they seem to really push the activities and gatherings that they have. Everyone comes to a dining area for meals. There are also gathering areas on each level and there was a lot more interaction with people. It was not a good fit for us due to the size and also more expensive.

Horrible
My brother has been at Commonwealth Oak Ridge for 4 years. Recently they called EMS to transport him to Park west for evaluation. When they arrived he was soiled and extremely wet. They asked staff to change him before transport..they refused. They brought him back because Park West said the bad behavior they claimed was not present. Commonwealth called EMS back to transport him to a different hospital. Again he was soiled and wet and again the staff refused to clean him up. The EMS drivers cleaned him up and had no problem with his behavior. The EMS driver called me to report the severe neglect. They said he was being mistreated. I pay over 5000.00 a month for his care and they have not cared for him as they should. No one should be treated this way.

Our experience with Commonwealth
We chose Commonwealth Senior Living at Oak Ridge because it was closer to her friends and her doctors offices. The room sizes here are smaller compared to some we looked at. The best part about the community so far would be the care that she is receiving, they get her to the hospital quick when she needs to go. I would recommend.

Best option for us
We are on the waitlist for a two-bedroom unit. They are our number one choice. Last year we did one month respite stay. The food is okay, we would have one meal a day plan. We have looked at options in the area and this was the best fit for us. It is cost-effective. We liked that you could still cook in your unit.
