We are pleased with Vista Del Mar
We are very happy with our choice of VDM for mom. The staff is very caring and always seems to be on top of things. Right now her care needs are on the low side but, if her needs increase, we are confident that VDM will be able to accommodate them. We like that the facility has a lot

We are pleased with Vista Del Mar
We are very happy with our choice of VDM for mom. The staff is very caring and always seems to be on top of things. Right now her care needs are on the low side but, if her needs increase, we are confident that VDM will be able to accommodate them. We like that the facility has a lot of activities and a very pleasant outdoor area. We also appreciate the outings and field trips that the residents can experience. That there are quiet areas to watch TV and movies as well as more active areas in which to interact with others and make new friends provides a broad array of activities for mom, depending upon her daily preferences. All in all, VDM is a great facility that our family is happy to recommend.

Stay away if you care about your elder loved one.
Don't believe all the good reviews. Many are fake. The overworked caregivers here are very nice, but there are very few of them. Maybe 1 or 2 to cover 30 residents. Do not send an elder loved one here if you care about the quality of their care. It takes forever to get someone to come to their room when they push their call buttons and need help. Residents could literally die here waiting for an overworked caregiver to finally get to their room. The med tech staff is inconsistent. Some are great, others are terrible. There have been instances of loved ones going for days without their medications because Med Techs ran out of meds and didn't tell anyone. There have been incidences of residents having sores, and lacerations that have not been reported to family and were noticed by visiting nurses. They hire very nice caregivers, but they are very inexperienced, and front office and management of the place is a joke and they will tell you what you want to hear, but never the truth. There is no one overseeing anything and when bad things happen, staff just points fingers at someone else but no one ever takes responsibility. Many new residents complain to their loved ones that they are unhappy here and want to move. The only ones who like living here follow the Baptist religion and require very little care, since the facility is built around Baptist church services, which is something they are not upfront with when you tour facility. If you are not Baptist, you will not like it.

Response from Vista Del Mar Senior Living
October 24, 2019
We appreciate your feedback. Our staffing ratio is based on the level of care that meet our residents’ needs. Upon hire we favor those with experience but also provide additional monthly training and refresher courses throughout the year. We understand your concerns with our Med techs, over the past months we have brought on board LVNs and an experienced Medication Supervisor who has implemented new procedures that have improved our system. Our community uses a digital wireless nurse-call system and we track response times daily to ensure we are responding quickly. All our managers as well as our Executive Director are always available after business hours to accommodate any concerns or questions that someone might have. We recognize that caring for our residents is a team effort, and we welcome family feedback and observations about our residents as they arise. We take pride in our activity program, and we welcome volunteers from the community including the Baptist church located directly next door. But our community has no direct affiliation and we support and celebrate all religious beliefs. Our residents’ well-being is our top priority and we are always looking for ways to improve our delivery of services. Feel free to contact our Executive Directly, Brad DeHaan, or Assistant Administrator, Suzette Johnson if you wish to discuss your concerns in person or over the phone.

Proud to have Found such a Great Place
My Brother has been a resident of Vista del Mar Senior Living for nearly 3 years, and we were very happy with our choice. We had problems finding another Assisted Living facility in Culver City, and Vista del Mar was perfect. It has met all of my Brother's needs and he has been very happy there. We have since found another Assisted Living facility in Culver City, and that is the only reason my Brother is moving. The new facility will have big shoes to fill. The Staff at Vista del Mar, (especially [Name removed]) should be proud to be associated with a great Senior Living Center. Thank all of you.

Wonderful care for my grandfather
Unfortunately, my dear grandfather needed more care than we could provide him in his home and we had to find a suitable home for him. After researching and visiting 9 other facilities, I settled on Vista Del Mar. I chose it because: The staff seemed very caring and warm Amazing amenities and events for the residents (restaurant, bar, courtyard, music, prayer group, movie rooms, pets allowed and more - like a resident dog named Jake who was very calm and loving!) He was able to have his own (very nice sized) room (with balcony!) The staff provided dignified and thorough service throughout his last six months and contacted us often and let us know when services needed to be added on (as needed). Open communication and professionalism from staff is all I ever encountered. Thank you for giving my grandther the loving care he deserved.

Vista Del Mar Senior Residence is for everyone.
Our mother has been at Vista Del Mar for many years. Vista Del Mar is her "home". She has received the best of care everyday. The staff is very attentive, kind and remember the residents' names. The management is also attentive to residents and family's questions as they arise. The lobby is people friendly with many sitting areas. The patio is inviting with sturdy chairs and tables. The walk ways are user friendly. There is a posting for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an alternative menus to fit everyone's tastes. The hall ways are clean and wide with some seats for resting. Each room is clearly marked with Room number and name of resident. Residents can put a decoration on their door, which makes it really like their own home! Activities are posted in various areas for convenience. There are various activity rooms and and comfortable television rooms. There are monthly Birthday parties, music presentations, and special Holiday parties. After all Vista Del Mar is really each residents home!

Happy with my choice
The professional staff at Vista del Mar kept in touch with me during my search for accomodations for my 88 year old uncle. I visited more than a dozen facilities and kept hoping something would become available at Vista del Mar where the apartments are larger, the prices fair and the staff helpful and friendly.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the California regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about California regulations for Assisted Living.
