A few concerns but good place overall.
It is a nice facility. The people are nice and my father was well cared for. The only issue we had was a little confusion on who to go to for questions or general assistance. Also, he got COVID while he was there and the overall attitude was fairly shocking. Some of the nurses had "colds" which I believe is what started it. Overall, the facility is fine.

I feel like there is not the extent of care that I thought we would get. They are short-staffed right now. I would recommend this community to others if your loved one is independent. if you need to get ahold of the nurse in the evening, they do respond.

Thank You
In this day as the world is turned upside down, I am amazed at how this community has maintained its functionality. With short staffing, a pandemic and rules and regulations that change daily, The Willows has still been able to carry on as a friendly, clean and well run facility. In the time that my father has been at The Willows of course we have had some difficulties, but with shared communication we have been able to resolve any issues. Thank you to the "heroes" that work in this field!

Don't Judge by Appearances
The facility is very attractive. However, they are seriously understaffed, and residents are underserved. The foodservice has been declining over the past two years. Management needs to be overhauled, as they do not seem to care about the quality of the business - only about appearances.

No Willows! Avoid!
Do not send your family members here. My mom’s health was severely neglected over years. When we finally were able to move her out, the staff became difficult to work with. Her toenails were so long that they were curled, her medication was being administered incorrectly, she was dehydrated, we removed 3 fifty-gallon bags of her trash from her room, the staff does not communicate with the family about important health issues, the food is unhealthy and not nutritious for a senior citizen. Above all, there is no registered nurse on staff. High staff turnover. I could go on and on. Our lawyer had to take action. Please look elsewhere around town for quality care.

Mrs. Garber, We are sorry that you are so upset about your mother’s departure from our community. We were greatly saddened to see her leave knowing she was very happy here, and repeatedly stated she did not wish to move. We place a priority on our residents needs and desires and we disagree with each of your statements about our care of your mother. You are most welcome to contact us to further address your statements. We continue to hope that your mother is doing well in her new home.

Beautiful Facility-Sad nursing treatment
The facility is beautiful on the outside and inside. The dining area is beautiful, activities director does an excellent job at keeping residents engaged and housekeeping seems to be mostly decent. My concern is the nursing department. The girls always seem to be working extremely hard. Ive spoke to day and night shift and for the most part they seem to all be giving their best. My issues is the structure, or lack there of. They cant seem to keep a DON(which is the main reason our loved ones are in the facility-the nursing supervision and care). The one im assuming head lady of some sort that appearently runs scheduling and does meds is by far the most rude, degrading staff member ive witnessed. To say she needs a lesson on class is understated. Foul language towards nursing, inappropriate conversations being held in open spaces, and overall doesn't seem to realize these aids are the bones of the building in many ways. As a prior healthcare worker any time I visit a loved one and witness the nursing being treated poorly its a huge red flag. When high nursing turnover happens it results in the loved ones suffering often. Id much rather send my loved one to a maybe less than fancy facility that shows a strong nursing family than one that looks pretty but has poor structure. Also on a side note-Ive noticed all staff wear dresses/skirts of some sort. As I realize they are shooting for a home feeling versus hospital enviorment, the larger picture is once again how comfortable are the aids trying to care for our loved ones wearing dress clothes? From my point the facility seems to be more concerned with image and less about the actual inner workings.

The Willows--could be better.
The Willows facility is clean and well maintained. The in-house physical therapist and physician are good. The monthly costs are relatively low, which may explain the negative attributes. The facility is understaffed for dining and resident care services. The food served is as likely to be bad as good.

Hello and Thank you for leaving feedback. I wanted to address your concerns. We work with a dietician who reviews our menu's to ensure are Residents are eating heart healthy/low sodium meals. We have been using fresh meats and vegetables along with fruits to serve. We have been serving Prime Rib, fresh herb checken breasts or a cranberry chicken breast, with fresh herb vegetables. We use fresh local garden ingredients for Cobb Salads, Chef's salad and garden salads. Our Pastry Chef makes low sugar deserts and cakes. We even make our own soft serve ice-cream for lunch and a hand dip for dinner meals. We do have a set menu, however we also offer several option choices for Residents during each meal. We also ensure we have amble staff to care for our residents and to see that all their needs and safety are met. Our Residents are our priority, and we are always striving to improve so that they are happy and well cared for. We have even begun renovations on our apartments to give them a fresh modern update, along with other common areas, and our beautiful grounds have been redone with many new roses, hydrangea and flowering bushes and trees with walking paths and seating for enjoyment. We always welcome ideas and suggestions from all our Residents and Family members, for we won't just settle, we continue to improve so our Residents are safe, happy and content.

Both good and bad
My late mother was a resident of the Willows at Meadow Branch (The Willows) from [date removed]. Overall her care was adequate however "The Willows" has problems with retaining competent and experienced staff. They employ primarily young high school educated females and do not pay them well, as the STAFF IS CONSTANTLY changing. Also, several times during my mother's almost three year stay the facility THEY DID NOT HAVE AN R.N employed as is apparently required by State Law. The food served consisted of primarily reheated frozen prepared meals, not the best for the average senior citizen. The Willows spends quite a bit on advertising on local T.V. They have apparently made the decision to spend their money on extensive advertising to insure a constant supply of "residents" rather than on employee compensation sufficient to ensure staff retention. This management approach is results in a constant staff turnover....they have apparently decided to pursue this approach as there is a ready supply of young 18-24 year old high school educated females ready to fill these low skilled positions. On the positive side the facility was was always very clean and the grounds were kept well-maintained. My mother was generally very happy at the Willows during her final years.

Thank you for your feedback, and I would like to address your concerns regarding staffing. It is widely known, there are issues across the Country retaining of staff/employees in all fields of employment. The Willows has and will continue to have appropriate amount of caring staff for our Residents. We continue to hire individuals that are qualified, regardless of their age. I also wanted to address the comment about not having an RN staffed. According to Virginia State licensing regulations/requirements for Assisted Living Communities, ALF's are NOT required to have RN'S or LPN'S staffed. You must be referring to Skilled Nursing Communities, in which are required by VA State Licensing laws to have RN's/LPN's. However we have two LPN's on staff, even though it is not required by law.

Not as nice as Spring Arbor but still would work. COST: Studio $4270 Required deposit of: $3000. Level of care either $400 or $800. Estimated Monthly cost: $4837 (I divide the $3000 deposit into $167 a month for 18 months) And chose the $400 level of care (medication distribution)

Thank you for your comment. The Willows At Meadow Branch has been in operation for over 21 years...While the area has many communities to choose from, We at The Willows take pride in our established reputation, and our beautiful home. We are currently remodeling apartments, and our lovely grounds also have been revamped with the addition of more landscaping, hydrangea bushes, rose bushes, crepe myrtle trees, apple blossoms, dog woods...Twenty one years is a long time, and we gladly except another 21!

Poor staff
At first glance the willows seems like a nice facility, but at further inspection it is obvious they need a lot of changes. They barley have a staff with a high turnover rate. They can’t keep a director of nursing and always seem short staffed. They promise a level of care they just can’t provide. The administration is deceiving about the level of care and the experience a resident will have. They put profit far ahead of resident care.

This is the perfect place for my mother in law it fits her personality very well. She is very happy enjoying all the new people making friends. She is doing the activities they offer. Her unit is quite comfortable she has no complaints. The staff is friendly and helpful when needed. She loves the food it is the best part of her experience. Nice to look at
They can't keep their director of nurses. They have gone through at least 6 in a 3 year time period. From what some staff members say they KEEPa staff member that causes the others to quit. It is a beautiful facility with seemingly caring individuals but it seems they care more about the appearance of the place more than anything else. The caregivers and housekeeping staff are very warm and friendly but the office staff seems very rigid and unaccommodating.

Pleasant Tour, but Not The Right for Us
This is a nice facility, and my tour of it went well. The community looked very nice, everything was very nice, and clean. The staff I met was friendly. I did find them to be ridged. They informed me they do not take meals to their rooms unless their sick, and my husband enjoys his meals in his room mainly. It was a good experience, but I knew this wasn't the right for him.

Hello, Thank you for leaving feedback. Assisted Living Communities are required to go by State regulating/licenses requirements. They do state residents are to eat in a "common" area, in which would be our dining room where we serve all our residents in a family like setting. Only under certain circumstances will the State approve residents to eat in their apartment. There has to be physician documents thoroughly explaining why the individual needs to be fed in his apartment/room. These are typical medical issues and not just for preferences. I am sorry we were not able to accommodate your husband desires, however it truly is a safety issue if residents choose to eat in their rooms unattended. With our dining experience, all nursing staff are in the dining room assisting, serving and helping the residents so everyone is monitored in case of an emergency and seeing that everyone is eating a healthy meal.

Great quality of care!
This community is really nice and so are the staff. i also like that the residents are more on my mother in laws level. She would be able to have people to sit and talk with at meals. I also like that they have a lot of activities. I saw that they were certified.

Nice facility, not as much as Spring Arbor and while pretty just had a different flavor to it. But I had just come from Spring Arbor. The facility was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Off the foyer is a library and the otherside a living room. Soft music playing and very pretty. I find marketers tend to talk too much and I have a tendency not to trust them. Kristian was this way. Always saying what they want and think you want to hear. But with that said, I have chosen to send her to the Willows. They have a memory care area and it is secured so she cannot leave without someone unlocking the door. The rooms are small but nice. She does not need a kitchenette. I like the shadow boxes outside the room so the client can put their personal trickets in it. Plenty of certified careworks on call and in facility. Including a true RN. Now in process of filing out tons of paperwork. Paid them a $1000 to hold the room. They require a $3000 deposit and the monthly rent after that. Total cost very reasonable for the place. About $6300/month for mom's total care needs.

Looks beautiful, but significant issues underneath
Surprised to see such good reviews on this site. Facility looks beautiful and staff makes a good first impression. However, staffing often reaches critical levels and the lowest level caregivers are overworked and stretched thin. Morale is poor. The position of director of nursing is often vacant (there is a revolving door of LPNs or RNs who take the position and quit in frustration shortly thereafter)---often one nurse quits and the facility lacks any nurse at all until another is hired. Food is salty and unappetizing with sandwiches a common evening meal. Few social activities; most people don't sign up for what is offered and outings are very poorly attended. If you or your loved enjoys social activities, this is not the place for you. Most residents sit alone in rooms with door closed
