Our Experience
My loved one was previously a resident at The Stayton. Unfortunately, I think the skilled nursing floor was very short handed when my loved one was there. Her room was right by the nurses station. Because of her injury, she needed assistance to the bathroom. She is very independent and did not call unless it was an emergency. We ended up hiring someone from 6pm-8am because the staff would never answer in the middle of night. The room was kept clean and the staff was friendly, just maybe over worked. When she moved to Assisted Living she had a large amount of money taken that was hidden in a drawer. I am hopeful they were able to hire some more honest, qualified nurses to help with the patients. I heard that they were under new management, so hopefully there will be some improvement.

Short-Staffed
It's a hard time to find a place that's perfect because of the lack of employees. There just weren't enough staff to provide the care that my loved one needed, especially in regards to getting to the bathroom. They're very receptive when you talk to them with concerns and say they'll get things done, but then it just never gets resolved. They never even got her her own mailbox the whole time she was there. The facility itself was clean. I always saw people cleaning, and they kept my loved one's room clean for the most part.

A wonderful place
This facility is the best place around. My mother-in-law is very happy there! They have so many activities from cake decorating to bingo. She was hesitant to participate at first. But now, sometimes when we go visit we can't even find her because she's out doing her activities. She truly loves and enjoys them. The meals are ok, she says they're a hit or miss. But we're able to go get her and take her out to eat often, so it works out. She also has a little personal kitchen area where she can make things for herself if she wants to. They do offer housekeeping and laundry, but she's pretty independent and likes to mostly do those things on her own. Periodically, we do request that they do a deep clean for her, which they willingly do and they do a great job. The staff is great and very helpful. I would definitely recommend The Stayton!

Do NOT go to the Stayton!
The only good thing I can say about The Stayton is the facility is nice. My Dad was there on the assisted living floor and then in the skilled nursing floor. He did not get the care he needed. The Stayton made promises to us they did not keep. We had to ask numerous times for them to bill my Dad's insurance and long term care. It took them months before they actually sent the statements in so we could get reimbursed. I, and my two sisters, visited Dad every day. If we had not been there he would not have had timely bathroom trips, water, or other essential care. Most of the time when we went into his room his call button was on the floor where he could not reach it. Rehab would use excuses not to take him to rehab. They kept saying he doesn't want to go and we won't make him. Convenient excuse because the facility he went to after he left the Stayton had no trouble taking him to rehab.

Not all it seems to be
I dont know about assiisted living but the memory care and nursing home are not up to grade for what this place charges , If you do decide to put your loved one there ,be aware and watch what goes on . It looks great but that doesn't mean it is.

Care for my mom
I am very happy with the community. They keep the community very clean. The staff are nice and assist with her needs. She is happy with the meals and variety. They are offering her activities that she is enjoying. I would recommend this community for the good care, but the it is a little costly. I am very happy that this is a closer to location so that I can visit more often.

The facility is good, the communication isn't as good as it should be.
The facility is good. It's just that there is a lot of bureaucracy, and the communication isn't as good as it should be. They need to communicate better with family members. It seems to be reactive as opposed to proactive. It's clean the staff is friendly, the food is good. We haven't really been there long enough to judge the value.

We're very pleased with how things have gone at The Stayton at Museum Way! The staff here are very friendly and attentive, and very personally interested in the residents and their well-being! A++ Experience
I took a tour of this community with a family member and I was blown away by the amenities The Stayton has to offer. You could not ask for a better location than being in the heart of Downtown. The views are incredible. Everyone on their staff was courteous and attentive and helped us with anything we asked for. The residents were extremely welcoming. I noticed various signs of different activities The Stayton offered so one would not ever be bored while living there. Overall, The Stayton completely surpassed my expectations and I would highly recommend it.

What retirement living should be!
This community is like a cruise ship on land! They have every amenity I could think of. The views, location, and staff are all top notch. Lot's of smiling faces when I took a tour. This place really seems to get what a "community" is all about. I was even able to meet Oliver North and Henry Winkler as part of their Red Carpet Speaker Series. 5 stars all around! Hope to be making a move soon.

The services rely on the resident to initiate them.
The services rely on the resident to initiate them. If you have a resident who doesn't want to be a burden or a problem, that might not be the best for the resident. I think they need to do a little more to initiate the services. I think we chose them for their ability to accommodate us, initially.

I felt like I was already home!!
After visiting several communities over the last couple of weeks I was beginning to get bored with the pitches and feel they are all the same. What a pleasant surprise to visit The Stayton. From the moment I walked into the lobby, I felt like I just entered a five-star hotel. Every employee greeted us with a genuine and warm smile. Our counselor was punctual, friendly and sincere. I truly felt she had my best interest at heart. The rooms are beautiful. The amenities and activities are all I could hope for. I had an opportunity to meet a couple of the residences during my visit. Their warmth and graciousness made me feel like I had known them all my life. This has been by far our most impressive community yet. Hopefully I to will soon become a resident of The Stayton.

Very nice place!
We toured this location when we were looking into care options for our loved one. Out of all the place we saw I think this one may have been the nicest. It was beautiful, and everyone was very friendly. However, it is located in a busy area of town that I don't think some of my relatives would have been comfortable getting to and from.

Very good, but slower response time
It was very good. I probably would have left him there but for one thing it was about $2500 more than the other place and it was less convinient. The staff were pretty good, they had a lot more people there, sometimes you couldn't get someone instant, that was one of the things, he's incontinent so it would take awhile for them to come but I'm sure that's the same any place. They were very good, they had a couple of staff that we weren't real crazy about but for the most part they were good.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.
