We're so grateful that you took the time to evaluate us! You'll be very happy to know that we have stepped up our "Activities" game (no pun intended!) AND our food is no longer coming from the Caterer we had been using! Your comments let us know that we are improving the "right things". Our Staff is now responsible for the preparation of meals and we have some mighty fine cooks!! Thanks again for entrusting us with the care of your very special loved one!

Our family had an in person tour and we were just not really impressed with it at all, it was to small and we knew it was just now the place for our loved one.
Response from The Mercy House

We understand that since we are a "smaller" type of home purposely, we will only attract a certain type of clientele looking for such. One might even be able to find places out there that have all the bells & whistles, but at Mercy House we pride ourselves on not only supplying all of her needs but it is also our MAIN GOAL in making sure we make her as happiest as she's ever been too! We supply all of the comforts of Home, including the LOVE!!

Tour experience
Mercy House was a definite no for us. When we were touring none of the residents looked happy at all and the place was just down-trotting. They had 9 shared rooms and only 2 bathrooms. We were not impressed.

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback. I apologize that you did not have the same pleasant experience that most of our families enjoy. We always appreciate hearing about our facility so we can continue to work diligently to create a lovely, safe environment for our seniors. Mercy House starts with care and safety. According to the AARP approximately 80% of falls take place in the bathroom. The shared bathrooms are an attempt to keep our residents safe. Once again, thank you and best of luck in finding a facility that works for your loved ones.

a very good community
our experience with The Mercy House has been a very good one. everything is very good with my sister there, I would give them good ratings across the board. she likes it there. they made the move in process very smooth and an easy transition. the staff went above and beyond by physically helping her move in; they carried all of her belongings in that day.

Great experience!!
I enjoyed my tour of this community that I had taken a short time ago for my father. The staff where vert helpful and friendly and made sure to give us lots of great information of there facility for my father. I just did not like how closed off everything was and the floor plan just seemed a little awkward for my liking.

Highly Recommended; Very Friendly and Gentle Memory Care
My mother-in-law is now a full-time resident of Sodalis Temple after two respite stays. We originally sought care for her during a planned family vacation, and had no intention of placing her in long-term care. However, she did so well at Sodalis that we were astonished. She actually did not want to leave and became very fond of her friends there, including the members of the staff who are very friendly and professional. My loved one is a very active, physically healthy 72-year old who suffers from moderately severe Alzheimer's and most of the normal cognitive impairments to be expected at this stage of her disease. She is still extremely independent and thrives on being able to help others, and Sodalis allows her to do this while making sure she and others are safe and well-cared-for. We did not imagine that we would let go of her without a major physical or mental event happening, but when we saw how positively she responded to the activities and opportunities for interaction at Sodalis, we quickly became convinced that this was the best environment for her. She may not have many years left to enjoy her independence and active lifestyle, and we want to make sure that whether she wakes up at 3 a.m. and wants company or wants to spend all day outside weeding the courtyard, or simply wants to sit with friends giving backrubs and hand massages (as she has done all her adult life for her husband who just recently passed away), she has the opportunity to do those things. She is loved and appreciated for exactly the little ball of love and fire she is. We couldn't be happier. I have visited many times unnounced at various times of the day and evening and have never seen or heard anything that has concerned me about this facility. We put them through a pretty rigorous vetting process (as we vetted three other memory care facilities in the area as well before choosing Sodalis) so we are very familiar with their capabilities and policies. Our loved one is very content at Sodalis. We were concerned that she would immediately want to leave (as she has often wanted to leave our house to go "home," which no longer exists) but she has never once asked us to take her home when we have visited there or taken her out for doctor's visits, shopping, or family meals. We are so grateful for Sodalis. Their staff is warm and I have spoken with many residents--none have had a negative thing to say about the care they have received there. We have a number of family friends whose loved ones have lived at Sodalis for a number of years and the feedback has been uniformly positive. Highly recommended.

very pricey
Sodalis Memory Care is very pricey. The medications are not covered at the VA. We are paying a lot for my father-in-law to be there. I wouldn't say they are terrible but they are kind of in between. He complains about their food. They give him a lot of pasta and he is diabetic. He tells them that a lot and they don't listen to him. The staff always greet you and ask how you are. They do no activities here. I guess that's why my father-in-law is bored. We are trying to see what to do.

We compare rates to other facilities in our area and are very competitive. The meals we serve are home cooked and based on a menu planned by a dietitian to ensure they are healthy and varied. We also have an engagement coordinator that directs the staff and plans activities. I would be happy to meet with you and other family members anytime to address your concerns and ensure we properly meet your father-in-law's needs. Sincerely, Marsh Tarnow - Community Manager

Why I chose Sodalis Memory Care for my Mom
I visited Sodalis three times before deciding to place my mother. Each time I visited it was at a different time of day. The home always smelled clean and usually had the smell of home cooking. The residents clean, dressed and usually involved in some type of activity. The staff did not appear over worked and they were very engaged with the patients. The whole place, staff, and people gave it a homey feel.

Sodalis-Temple was the just right place for Dad's final years
Our father was at Sodalis-Temple for over 4½ years. Our family is eternally grateful that Sodalis was there for us. Dad’s final years were ones of comfort, dignity, and friendship. Sodalis was just the right place for Dad for many reasons and I would like to share with others some of the most important to me. Intimate. The design of the houses and the small number of residents per house provide an environment that is more like a personal home than a care facility. The large great room becomes the natural gathering place and promotes social interaction. Otherwise, Dad probably would have kept to himself more and declined faster. The open kitchen allows residents to smell and see the meals being prepared. Dad really enjoyed food and would tuck right into the home-cooked meals! The intimacy of the layout allows a staff member to always be close at hand for aide or companionship. Safe. The exterior doors have both audible alarm and staff-only cipher lock. This ensures no resident will get out onto the street. Believe me - Dad would have been out that door in a heartbeat and at every opportunity. Dad loved being outside and going for walks. Sodalis has a secure fenced courtyard with a walking trail that allowed him to do this on his own, as much as he wanted. The bathrooms are shared and centrally located. This is a huge safety plus because the staff is aware of when someone is in the bathroom and keeps an eye out as needed. Caring. To me, the Sodalis staff are ‘saints and angels’. They became my extended family. They have very hard jobs but they are unbelievably patient, compassionate, and up-beat. Especially in his last year, Dad could be quite a handful – but the staff figured out how to handle it and stay positive about it. One of the very best things at Sodalis is that the intimate setting allows the staff to spend social time with the residents – sitting with them and talking or just holding their hand to give comfort. Dad was always clean and nicely dressed and was clearly fond of the staff. Sodalis was a God-send for our family. Even though we didn’t live close by, we never worried about Dad. We knew he was in good hands and the staff would call us if there was something we needed to know or decide. And Dad was able to spend his final years in dignity, in a caring environment, and as independently as his condition could permit.

The entire care team at Sodalis Temple appreciates Anne’s kind words. Our care givers genuinely loved Dr. Mardt and we were all fortunate to know him. He was a selfless person and helped many people during his tenure at Scott And White Hospital in Temple. We also looked forward to Anne’s visits while her father was with us. She is a loving a and caring person and we always enjoyed her visits. We miss Dr. M but know he is in a better place. We hope Anne will drop by in the future to see her Sodalis family.

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Mercy House 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
