Great experience!
Moved dad from another location in CT and I am so pleased with their attention to detail and treatment of dad. They really care for him and have provided him with all he needs and more including pt three times a week which is really helping. Everyone is friendly and supportive and the place is beautiful and very clean.

Cost is okay compared to others. Sad that it costs so much and my family member will only be able to stay here for maybe another year and a half or so,till she runs out of money. The landing does a great job taking care of its residence in memory care.

Highly recommend
The staff is wonderful. They really are concerned about the residents and go out of their way to make their living situation the best it can be. The staff encourages social interaction and they are very approachable. They're like family. The Landing staff and Hospice have been wonderful. The residents always want to know how she's doing and everyone has watched over her since she moved in one year ago.

so far so good
It's a bit soon for me to make concrete comments, but this far my experience with The Landing is that it does a great job of fulfilling its mission when considering past experiences with similar facilities. They all seem to struggle with staff turnover in all areas but at Landing they seem to be managing and staffing with good folks

It was the nicest we saw, they have activities and they take the memory care residents on field trips . You have your own room with your own stuff. It feels like a resort . They are constantly doing activities that you can join in or not. A very nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend to others.

My Tour Experience at Landing of Poughkeepsie
This was a beautiful facility, but way too big for my mother. I think it's better for people who need assisted living. She would've been lost there. This place she's in now at Pine Ridge feels more like a home and close knit family.

Thank you for visiting The Landing of Poughkeepsie and for posting your comments. Your observations are correct; Our Purpose-built Assisted Living and Memory Care community is quite vast and the architecture is not for everyone. I am so pleased that you have found the right fit for your loved one and wish you good health and happiness.

Thank you for your post and your input. It is so lovely to see that overall, your experience has been a good one. I do want to address a few of your important comments; Although our community is staffed 24/7, the concierge desk is staffed from 8 PM until 9 PM when most visits, arrivals, and departures take place. Outside of those hours, visitors and residents just need to ring the doorbell in the foyer to be met by our 24/7 care staff. I am sorry that you may not have known this and apologize for any confusion. FOOD: I am not sure if your loved one is a Assisted Living or Lilac Trace Memory Care resident. Generally speaking, the same menu is prepared for all of our residents unless there are special dietary needs. Those are addressed for all meals and snacks. As far as the availability of food after the nightly dinner service; our Assisted Living apartments are equipped with a continental kitchen including a full-size refrigerator, microwave, prep sink, and cabinets which provide lots of space for our residents to stock their favorite late-night snacks. Lilac Trace Memory Care studios are not equipped with a kitchen. Snacks are served several times throughout the day including after dinner, and during movie time. Families typically send other snacks for us to store in our service kitchen or refrigerator with instructions. This is not a perfect system but generally works well for most residents. We have an open door and encourage your feedback and input as we strive to do the best for our residents. I do hope that you will continue to bring feedback to us. Thank you s very much for taking the time to write in!

Look elsewhere for better value
We would pick my mother in law up to bring her to our home and she would be locked out of the facility. We would tell them when we were leaving and when we would be back and then we would get back and there was no one at the desk to let her in. It was a constant issue. Based on the actual cost of the Landing - which was quite costly, if she wanted any additional food, she would not be able to get that. There was constantly an issue of no fresh fruit, If money was no object, I think it would be a nice place for the right person.

Tour Review
Our family had an in-person tour and we thought all the staff members were very friendly and they have plenty of activities for the residents to do. Their amenities looked great and their dining room was set up nicely. Their rooms were smaller than another community we looked at but their closets were much larger.

Our incredible residents are really enjoying it. And our memory garden is springing to life; Songbirds visiting and the garden is fuller by the day. We hope you will visit again soon.

The accommodations my family member got were not what he was shown when he first went there and signed up. The room he ended up in was right next to the dining and activities area, so it was very noisy. One thing I found very annoying was in exiting the memory care section, you always needed someone to open the door for you to go out. As for as his care, nobody really paid very much attention to him. He was getting aggressive, and instead of trying to help or mitigate that in any way, they just stayed away from him. You also had to put down a nonrefundable deposit, and they did not want to give that back when we left after a few weeks.

Dear Linda, Thank you for taking the time to review our community and to offer your personal view of the experience you have as a family member. Although we always strive for greater excellence, we take great pride in the care that we take with each resident. Activities are scheduled around their unique needs and delivered by caregivers with nurse-management oversight. Many of our families appreciate the robust and engaging life we try to provide to our special needs community which is purpose-built to provide an inclusive care environment with 24/7 care dedicated to respecting the individuality of each resident. It seems that we may have missed an opportunity to learn more about your specific concerns. We have a fairly open-door policy with the families that we serve and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly at your earliest convenience. Please let me, Marian, or Irene know when we might arrange an in-person or phone conference to learn more about how we might rebuild confidence in the community. Kindest regards, Carolyn 845-471-4044

Tour of The Landing
I almost went with this facility. I had a great interview with them. Some of the drawbacks were it was more expensive with a room that was 1/2 the size of another place we looked at, there are no doctors on site, and the location was far for me. When I told them I went with another facility they asked why and I told them and they changed their story on what they could offer me. I just did not feel comfortable.

Concerned for Mom
I am not sure about it yet so I cannot recommend it to anyone. A man has been trying to get into her room. A resident of the facility keeps trying to get into my Mother's room. He thinks it's his room. He was found in my mothers room and undressed and about to be having sex with my mother. He thinks my Mom is his wife, which she is not. I am worried for my mothers safety. They said that my mothers medicine needs to be changed, because the medicine may be affecting her libido, which is totally inappropriate. Him coming into her room is the issue, not her libido. They seem to be placing the blame on my mother while she is in an Alzheimer's unit, versus taking responsibility for the safety of all residents.

Thank you for expressing your concerns. Although it is not clear from your comments, it would seem that your loved one is a memory care community resident where care staffing and facility security are elevated. The well-being and safety of all of our residents are of the highest priority, so we have an open-door policy, and on-call directors who welcome feedback and collaborate with the families. I am not sure if you brought your concerns to our management directly, but we would like to speak with you at your earliest convenience. Please contact us as soon as possible so that we may get more specific information and determine what course of action is most appropriate. Yours in service, Carolyn 845-471-4044 .

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the New York regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about New York regulations for Assisted Living.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
