I've been thrilled with the care so far! It's a bustling environment - active with friendly & caring care-givers, offering a huge range of activities. The other residents are actively involved -- way beyond bingo! Art projects, lectures, gardening, bridge, scrabble, weekend drives/excursions, etc. Well managed and clean. Laundry & cleaning service. The works. The food at the Kensington is very good. They are continually upgrading the community (with new carpets & paint this last month). And, I especially appreciate how attentive the staff is to my dad and all their residents. Staff is amazingly helpful. I'm so glad we landed here.

I would say it was a very lively community for seniors. Tons of activities and things to make everything feel like home and comfortable. The staff is wonderful, the food is great and the place is very well kept. I picked this community because it seemed much livelier than other places.

Friendly and caring staff.
What we like the most about The Kensington is the staff. The staff are friendly and caring. Our loved one has made friends easily, there is a variety of food and a lot of activities. We would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had so far.

It is a great community with really good stuff. It is a little on the pricey side and communication between the staff and family could be improved. Food is fairly decent Lots of activities and outings. We picked this community because it was available.

I toured this community and thought it was really huge and would be easy for my loved one to get lost in, I got a little bit lost. But it was a nice place. The lobby was nice and the dining room was very pleasant. The main common areas smelled good. Just not a good fit for my loved one due to the large size of the facility.

Very Poor Management
My mother has been at the Kensington for over a year and a half. The communication, management and management of medications has been extremely poor. I was hopefully that with Kisco's recent transfer of ownership of Kensington, things would get better - but they have gotten worse! Recently their fax machine has been broken for 2 weeks - the primary way in which medical orders are submitted by doctors for residents. The phone systems have been down several times. I have complained and tried to get action - the right things are said, but the issues are not resolved. Do not sent your loved ones here!

Do Not Recommend
Dad in Assisted Living with dementia flooded his apartment and two below it. It was not properly cleaned up and staff left him in an apartment that was mildewing around him for two weeks until I visited, complained, and filed a report with Social Services. At that point they moved him to their "respite room" without his cane or cat. Dad fell without his cane, cat was left in mildewing room with industrial dryers and cat was traumatized. Director was utterly unhelpful. Dad had also developed incontinence issues and I, his POA, had not been informed. Found out by tripping over soiled underwear in his room. They do his laundry & should have noticed. It's fine. She likes it there. I guess if you compare it to others to cost is about the same. They're all between $4500 and $5000. The care is good and there are lots of activities.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know California’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Kensington 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
