Mom's heart was warmed
Mom spent two weeks here in respite care before a granddaughter's visit and continuing to look for a more permanent solution. When I checked her out at the end of two weeks, Mom gave me a long hug and thanked me for letting her stay there. On a follow-up visit today, we looked at another facility, and Mom could only say that she wants to return here if the new place was her only other option.
Mom's sister was also along today. Her reaction at seeing the new place was to burst into tears. When we visited her afterwards, she lit up and said that she could see Mom living here quite happily.
The director told me that Mom fit in quite nicely with the others and enjoyed helping out as she could. Playing bingo master for chocolates was a favorite past-time.

Bed Bugs Beware!!
This place is infested with bed bugs! Owners have done little to rectify the issue. Some questionable employees.

Knowledgeable Tour Guide!!
I did not like that the community was very dark. The atmosphere didn't provide that warm family feeling i wanted to feel. The staff that i did meet they were all nice and attentive to my needs. There was a beautician on site and activities offered. I didn't like that my mother would have to be sharing a room and bathroom. The community was also not very clean.

Small facility. Involved staff and management on site. Personal attention.
no handrails in the halls, all shared bathroom s and community heated shower.
They are obviously working on improving the physical environment but it is dated. Nice sunroom and deck. Some involvement with a children's day care is a plus.

Since Mom is still living in her own home, the downsize scale seemed nearly impossible to surmount. She liked interacting with the director and the residents, saying it truly was a home.

The staff was nice, the environment was clean
I visited a few places, and this is the closest to what I am looking for. The staff was nice, the environment was clean, and it didn't feel clinical. So far this is the best fit.
