Rapid decline in quality
This facility used to be great. There are a few isolated great ones still left and the chef is dedicated, food is good; lost their director and facility manager, and there is literally no one in charge on site currently. They say they send someone who is in an acting role, but you never see that person. The kitchen abutting dining room is absolutely filthy with disgusting food splattered all over the cabinets and sink and the fridge/freezers are disgusting and you can never find a working icemaker. Then cannot find staff there are only two on at night and there are over 60 people residing there. Young girls who run away and hide from requests. They will have somebody leave and ask another employee to do both jobs but not give that person any extra compensation. Their poor employees suffer until they can take it no more and they leave. They try not to because they love the residents and they have lost so many good people who are there for the right reasons. Dumbest corporate ever.

Response from The Addison of Port Orange
August 17, 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We are disappointed to hear that your recent experience has not reflected the level of service and care we expect within our community. The concerns you described regarding cleanliness, staffing availability, leadership presence, and team member support are serious, and we do not take them lightly. Our residents deserve a clean, well-maintained environment, responsive care, and a team that feels supported and equipped to provide the best possible experience. We also appreciate your recognition of the team members who have continued to demonstrate their dedication to our residents, as well as your positive comments about our chef and dining program. Our team members and the relationships they build with residents are incredibly important to us. The community is currently navigating leadership transitions, and we recognize the importance of providing stability, visibility, and consistent communication during that process. We are actively working to strengthen leadership support and address the operational concerns within the community. We would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about the specific situations you referenced so they can be appropriately reviewed and addressed. Please contact the community directly and ask to speak with a member of leadership so we can connect with you personally. Thank you again for bringing these concerns to our attention.

We know that we made the right decision and found the very BEST place for our mother and all her needs.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for choosing The Addison for your mother! We know how important, and sometimes overwhelming, the search for the right senior living community can be, so it means so much to hear that you felt comfortable and welcomed from the moment you walked through our doors. We are especially grateful for your kind words about our team, the cleanliness of the community, and the happiness of our residents. Most importantly, thank you for trusting us with your mother’s care. Knowing that your family feels confident you made the right decision is one of the greatest compliments we can receive. We are honored to welcome your mother and your entire family to The Addison family!

Gone Downhill
Be aware, The Addison of Port Orange has turned into a dumpster fire. The cost cutting and staff turnover has completely ruined what was once a family friendly, highly professional community. Since Sonida Senior Living acquired the business from The Benton House, the management and overall decision making has introduced health risks to every resident. My mother was given the wrong medications and once it was brought to the leadership’s attention, it was denied and not dealt with appropriately. Medication schedule varies daily. Morning meds can be given as late as 12 noon. A neighbor of my mother’s calls out continually for help with absolutely no response from the staff. Weekend staff presence is dangerously low. Staff members that have had to clean up bowel accidents have been sent to work in the kitchen immediately there after. Weekly entertainment has gone from fabulous to a joke, yet prices continue to increase. The fact that the director has never taken time to get to know e

August 17, 2026
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We are deeply concerned to hear about your experience at The Addison of Port Orange, particularly the concerns you have raised regarding medication management, response times, staffing, infection-control practices, and leadership communication. These are serious matters and are not consistent with the standards we expect for our residents. The community has experienced significant transition, and we recognize that this has created challenges and frustration for some of our residents and families. We are actively working to restore stability, strengthen leadership and staffing, and ensure appropriate systems and accountability are in place. However, transition is not an excuse for a resident or family to feel that their concerns are not heard or appropriately addressed. We would particularly like the opportunity to review the medication concerns involving your mother and the specific situations you described. We take medication safety and resident care very seriously, and concerns of this nature deserve a thorough review and direct follow-up. Our new Executive Director is committed to The Addison of Port Orange and to rebuilding the strong sense of community and trust that residents and families expect. An important part of that work is listening to families, understanding where we have fallen short, and taking meaningful action to improve. Please contact the community directly and ask to speak with the Executive Director so we can discuss your mother's experience in greater detail. We appreciate you bringing these concerns forward and giving us the opportunity to address them.

very good
This assisted living facility is a wonderful place overall. The property is very well maintained, clean, and provides a pleasant and comfortable environment for residents. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it truly feels like a caring community. The staff members are kind, professional, and work very hard to provide quality care and support to the residents. They clearly care about the people who live there and do their best every day. One area that could make the facility even better would be increasing staff salaries. Better pay would likely help reduce staff turnover and allow the facility to retain more experienced employees, which would benefit both the residents and the overall quality of care. Overall, this is a very good assisted living facility, and I would recommend it to families looking for a clean, caring, and pleasant place for their loved ones.

Review for The Addison of Port Orange
The Addison at Port Orange stood out for us as a place with a good infrastructure for care support with a smaller, more home-like atmosphere and strong, communicative employees. They helped us coordinate the ideal option, a good-sized single room with a nice window, a walk-in closet for storage, a well-designed easy access bathroom, and then near the door, a sink with a counter, cupboards, and refrigerator. The Addison’s dining space and sitting rooms are bright, with additional spaces on the front patio and the interior patio for fresh air and sunshine. The staff have all been very helpful, and the leadership accommodating for our needs. They helped us to create a home for my dad.

Notice that staff is working hard but, more staff is needed. Memory care has more residents and the staff is very limited the last few weeks. Since changing from the [facility name removed]. The staff has declined- more activities entertain and stimulated these residents. We pay privately and have a concern with adequate staffing.

good community
the Addison, I believe is one of the better communities I’ve visited. I’ve been to 2 or 3 other senior communities, and I wasn’t impressed by the facility or the staff. Prior to the Addison’s acquisition of this community, this was a [removed]. [removed] was a superb establishment, I don’t think the Addison is at the same level, it’s been about a year since the transition, so perhaps these things take time, but all in all, I don’t know of any better alternative.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Florida’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Florida’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Addison of Port Orange 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
