I am a fan of Superior Residences of Lecanto
Really, I don’t think anybody wants to place a loved one in an environment outside of the family, but unfortunately in some cases it is necessary. Reluctantly I started looking for a place for my mom. I visited several facilities through appointments and showed up unexpectantly to see how the residents lived and were treated. For the most part the staffs of every place were nice, but I couldn’t get past the smell. I finally visited Superior. I walked the facility and the first thing I noticed was that it clean and there was no incontenence smell. Also, the residents could walk freely inside. In addition, there’s an outdoor area for them to walk, sit and enjoy a garden in the interior of the building. I apologize as I will miss the names of some of the staff, but all I have met have been wonderful and really do care for the individuals they assist and work for every day. [names removed]are just a few.

Stay Away!!
My dear friend almost lost her hand and her life last week from an infection after being neglected here. When I went to pick up her belongings, not one staff member asked me how she was doing. Instead, the business manager reminded me to make sure that I still send in her payment for the next month. ?? When my friend first arrived here, we were assured that they had in house doctors who accepted her insurance and that they are all inclusive. That was not the case. Weeks went by before I was notified she was out of her meds. When they found metastasized nodules in her lungs and referred her to a pulmonologist, I was told they would schedule the appointment and everything would be taken care of. Two months went by without hearing anything, only to call and find out that they dont have any provider's who accept that insurance in that county and I would have to take her myself. That is completely fine, but how am I supposed to know these things if they don't communicate that?

My experience
Recently I contacted a Place for Mom and they helped me narrow down the different Alf’s according to my sister’s needs. I liked this facility because the residents could walk the whole building and had nice areas for them to be outside. The building is clean with no foul odors. The rooms are large and accommodating. My family is unable to provide 24 hour care that is needed. It’s important for her to have safe surroundings, care and support that she needs. With my medical background I was the one that looked for two days for the ideal placement for my sister. During this time my family was overwhelmed and Superior of Lecanto staff made this transition very easy. Within a couple of days of admission my sister became less agitated and relaxed in her new place. It takes special staff to work in a memory care unit and they have shown to be helpful and caring.

This place went to hell. Don't consider it. This place was ok 2 years ago. Started going down this year 2023. Staff turn over, a lot. They look young and inexperienced. Please don't consider this place.

Our families experience
All categories listed above for Superior residences at Lecanto would receive a 5. We have been very pleased with Superior and its staff. They watch movies, have balloon volleyball, ladies nail time, card games. My mother in law cannot really participate but she will sit and watch. They staff makes an effort to include everyone.

Bad Experience
Our experience was not great. I would recommend looking for a different place for your family member. My loved one had to go to the hospital and was severely dehydrated - how does that happen in a care facility? I did not care for Superior Residences of Lecanto at all.

A good place for my mom
The people that work with my loved one are wonderful. The office staff are good but sometimes they can be more sells than the concern for my mother that the others that care for her show. The food is really good. I have eaten there a few times and liked it all of the times that I visited. They after lunch get everyone together and do wheel of fortune and family feud and different games. I know this is exactly where my loved one should be.

The reality of assisted living
In our family member's case, this was not the facility for her. She required extra medical care for advanced lymphedema after rehab. Although promised, transportation to a doctor or other specialist was limited to two days per week. And this transportation was provided by in-house personnel (a maintenance man doubling as a transport driver). A nurse to accompany each resident is provided at an extra cost. The condition-specific rehab needed was not available at this facility. By the time the only area specialist was contacted the condition had progressed to severe edema and was unmanageable.
I feel that we made the best choice based on the information provided us. The coordination between rehab, ALF, and her doctor was lacking continuity. They were on "different pages" in reference to what needed to be done in a time-sensitive manner to maintain the progress which she experienced in rehab. I believe the disconnect was with the doctor, not either facility. But the outcome proved terminal for our family member.

DON'T DO IT!!!! Meds, meds, and more meds. If you wonder why every resident is sleeping slumped over in a chair, they'll tell you that "their bellies are full and happy". NOT TRUE. It's from sedation, don't believe anything else.
Activities....? Look and see if that puzzle you saw when you toured the place has been touched. These liars say there's "afternoon tea parties" which involves them placing a cup of tea and a cookie in front of a resident. Any activity my Mom had to stay occupied was provided by US. Her therapy doll, several games, sensory items...we bought it all, they have nothing and offer nothing. My sweet Mom was ignored, even developing foot issues because all she did was walk the halls and look for her family. NO COMFORT was ever offered to her. They even locked her out of her room because when she was in there, she'd pack her things because she wanted to go home so badly. That was their solution....LOCK HER OUT OF HER OWN ROOM!!!!
These people are disgusting. And don't believe there's new ownership....there isn't. New director, nursing staff, etc....yes....constant turnover, but still run by the same lying, money hungry, opportunistic vipers.
Don't pay attention to how pretty it is. My Mom walked in there, high functioning, verbal, etc....but was sick, dehydrated, bleeding, and unresponsive in less than 90 days. DON'T DO IT. They don't care about your loved one, please don't get fooled.

Run, don't walk.
Absolute criminals. Every resident is over-sedated. Take the tour, this is easy to see. They'll tell you they're tired from the meal, but this is how it is all the time. There is one activity per day......(and they call things 'activities'that are no more than putting in a DVD and calling it "movie night", or pouring drinks into tea cups and calling that a "tea party"..... pathetic).
Look around the internet....there are reviews from former employees about how awful it is there.
There is ZERO chance that these aides and CNAs have any training/experience with memory care. Some had compassion, most did not, and all were overworked.
Ignore the decor. Look at the residents. Note the fact that they don't give tours of the areas where the residents are in advanced stages of disease. They'll make an excuse (someone just passed away, etc) but the reality is they have NO BUSINESS caring for people who need so much more than this place is providing. They just want "heads in beds".....it's all about quotas and money, not the residents, and not the families. Just don't do it. Please......don't.

The care at this community is outstanding. The staff are very caring and attentive to her needs . The variety of the meals are good and she likes the nice variety. I am glad that my mom is activities with the other residents. I would recommend this clean and nice community for other families for the care of there loved one with a great value for care

DON'T GET FOOLED BY THE LOOK OF IT!!! This was the biggest mistake of our life since Mom's diagnosis. These people are clever marketers, and they take advantage of the saddest time of your life. But most of it is FRAUD. They will tell you that your loved one can "age in place"...NOT TRUE. Don't believe them. They will tell you that you need to hire a 24-hour caregiver if your loved one is a "fall risk"...(which most every resident is!). They will tell you you have to purchase a hospital bed. They lie about having PT and OT on site. There were multiple mistakes with meds, and ZERO management of diabetes, testing only once per WEEK!!! My loved one sat, overmedicated, in a chair, outcold, for 7 hours. She was dehydrated, had a UTI, and a bleeding diaper rash. She left via 911. She was injured in the shower when they forced her in, because they cannot handle patients with dementia. I beg you, don't get fooled. Find another place. They nearly killed my loved one, and then blamed it on her, for "resisting care", which is a hallmark of this illness. Please, just dont leave your loved one here, no matter how kind everyone seems....they aren't. It all about money.

Misleading
Be VERY careful. It is easy to be fooled by decor and first impressions, but don't make the same mistake we did. We found 90% of what was promised was a lie. The residents wander aimlessly, most are sedated and in front of the TV, which is the only offering most days. They lie when they say your loved one can "age in place". Don't believe them. Some of the staff are lovely, but many were outright RUDE and mean. They promise that they "take in an entire family" but that just isn't true. Constant staff turnover, even at the highest levels (as in, 3 directors in 4 months)
We, like several other families, pulled our loved one out after she became ill due to lack of care and over-sedation.
