Highly recommend solstice in Bangor for independent senior living.
I am very happy with solstice. We like the fact that even though it is not assisted care, they come into clean once a week and they change the bedding once a week. Also, the fact that they cook meals. The place is very clean.

Review for Solstice Senior Living at Bangor
I would encourage them to also look at some alternatives. Mom did not like the food very much, not much variety. Her apartment was supposed to be cleaned weekly, and she was lucky to have it cleaned at all. The staff was okay, but there were many staff changes while she was there. She was ill for the last few months there and passed away on [date removed]They charged us for January (because she did not give 30 days notice--she unfortunately did not know what day she would die). We had to threaten legal action to get the money back as her lease clearly stated that she would not be charged for additional months after her passing. I probably wouldn't recommend this place to a friend.

Learning to live in a senior community.
I’m very comfortable here but the shortage of staff plays a large part in my review. We have plenty to eat but quality of each menu item varies. They should be using and following standardized recipes. I couldn’t ask for any nicer and caring staff members…all of them!

Highly recommended retirement living
The director is amazing and helps with anything needed and helps quickly resolve any issues that may arise.
The marketing director is outgoing and friendly and will help with anything needed.
The activities director goes above and beyond to come up with fun and unique activities and tries to pull people in.
They do struggle in the kitchen. The food is not what it should be at times.
They are having staffing issues (like so many businesses at this time) mainly with servers and the people who clean the rooms. The directors often have to pitch in and help with these things.
Overall, is has been a great choice for my mother and a place where the residents look out for each other.

Our Experience
The staff is great. We have a great manager. He steps up and does anything, even cooking and waiting on tables. He even shoveled snow from my car when it wasn't done and I needed to get out. The food is not proper for elderly people, a lot of fried food not enough vegetables mostly asparagus carrots mixed summer squash and hardly any fresh fruit. They say they put it out 3 times a day, but not enough for so many people if you aren't there when they put it out you don't get any. We are spending almost as much for proper food as we did at home.

Tour experience
We had a great tour experience with Solstice Senior Living at Bangor. The facility is beautiful and the staff were great. My dad just needed a higher level of care that they do not offer here which is why we did not go with this facility.

Overall, this has been a pretty good facility. They have had some staff turnover and shortages, also a change in management. Hopefully things will settle out with that. The staff that they do have has been very good, though. I'm not sure that housekeeping is being done as often as it should be. There's nothing terribly wrong, I just thought that it was done weekly. It seems to be done more like monthly right now. The food quality and variety could improve. Communication with the family is good. They're very accommodating and responsive when I reach out. They also have a Facebook page, which helps me stay up to date on things. They offer a good variety of activities. All in all, this facility has been a good fit for my mom. I would recommend them to friends and family for certain situations.

Happy With Solistce
It is a fun, happy place with lots of choices for loved ones to be involved in. The apartment is great. It's clean. There's plenty of room for my loved one. And it has everything she needs. They put in brand new flooring in her unit before she moved in, which was very nice. I like that with independent living, we're paying for only what she needs currently, and If her care needs change over time, we can bring in self paid care as long as full assisted living is still not needed.

It's a good place to live
In addition to the above ratings, the people are nice. Solstice is a beautiful way out and easy to get around.
As far as improvement like everyone else, having staff available to help with things could be a bit better - staff comes and goes. I have enough room in my apartment & it comes with a kitchenette, but there's no stove or dishwasher although I do have a small fridge. Housekeeping comes in and helps clean every other week and they wash my linens too. Solstice allows pets and they offer transportation to appointments & stores. I don't participate in many activities, but they have a monthly calendar with activities and the food menu.
Overall I would recommend Solstice Senior Living at Bangor to others.

Solstice Senior Living review
The residents living here at Solstice Senior Living are super friendly and very pleasant. However the meals definitely need some improvement - it is very meat based so if you are vegetarian just forget it. It is also quite salty and you are only able to get food during a certain time frame - so if you overslept or have an appointment during that meal time then you have to wait until the next meal time. With some improvements perhaps we would recommend them to other families.

A lovely place for independent living
This was a very nice community for someone that could really live by themselves quite well. The resident should not expect any services or anything. They had activities like singing, puzzles, and other things that they were not able to do due to covid. The calendar had a lot of activities on it like singing and more and they would do as much as they could outside of covid.

Our tour experience
The person who led our tour was very good, and it was very helpful to be able to see the facility. They actually recommended one of their community partners to us, which was a very positive experience, since it was closer to me. I also liked the community partner's layout a little better. Having a virtual tour was very hard though, not because of the facility, but because of the platform.

We chose Solstice Senior Living because we were looking for the most inexpensive place we could find. So we could afford it and we were blown away by how efficiently it was run given the fact it was the cheapest place for us. The apartment sizes here were perfect. The director made the whole process seamless and was very easy to work with, friendly, and accommodating. I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Good place if your loved one is still relatively independent.
The care services at Solstice were good, and from what we saw the activities were good as well. Our loved one wasn't at this community for very long, but we did really like how friendly the staff was. This community is more independent living so there wasn't much interaction between the staff and residents. The rooms were a nice size, they offered plenty of space. The food was good, we would have to say it was pretty adequate, however they did have some turnovers within their food service.
