The staff all very nice but not well trained, the agency told us they knew about Parkinson's and would be able to help. No one knew about Parkinson's they just did light cleaning and that's not what we were told. Too much money for light cleaning.

Did not deliver what was promised
Our initial meeting with them was very good. They said everything we wanted to hear. So we hired them. The follow through was not as good. We were told we could do 12-15 hours a week. Then they said we had to do 20 hours per week. The lady they placed with my mom was MUCH older than they said she was. We felt she needed care almost as much as my mom. She was very nice but she shared all of her personal problems with my mom and pushed her religious beliefs. This was a huge problem for my mom who is adamantly agnostic. They told us there would be check-ins both on an app and in a notebook at her house. The app was not available and the notebook never showed up at her house. So we had very little communication. Ultimately this did not work out for us, and we let her go after one month.

Review of Senior Helpers
This company was not as reliable, as I was hoping they would be. I first met [name removed] and thought I would be communicating with her, but then there were other people in the office that I was unfamiliar with as well as [name removed] a gentleman that also worked there. My expectations were never met. [name removed] the second caregiver that started to work with my mother was very nice, but she had some issues in her family life that took her away from her job. I felt that the caregivers were not as familiar with dementia as I hope they would be. Watching videos for people with disabilities is different from actually doing work with a caregiver who is familiar with issues of the elderly giving and answering questions during training.

Very good experience so far
We now have two “regulars” who are so caring and absolutely amazing! I insisted on them going forward, with a third backup I liked. I had two other random fill-ins who were fine, but one I had to call in about and asked to not have return because of unprofessional behavior (on phone whole time, sat around, didn’t take initiative, and swore). Billing and scheduling is not a problem, but I do keep tabs on those to make sure it’s accurate. I also give plenty of notice if cancellation is necessary. Overall, it has gone very well. They contact me now in advance with any changes since my complaint.

Needs Mature Caregivers
2 caregivers were sent. #1 was young and very helpful, but I had to supervise her and that's not what I need. #2 left early twice because her life partner showed up early with her ride. I felt swindled. I did not report her because I don't want to stop anyone from their livelihood. When I asked for someone older, the manager said they didn't have any more mature companions.

Overall experience was quite disappointing, initially numerous caregivers would come to provide care. Once we requested a steady caregiver this person failed to notify me or the agency of my mother's deterioration. Would definitely not recommend the agency I used.

Frequently Asked Questions
about Senior Helpers of Albuquerque, NM

A Place for Mom has scored Senior Helpers of Albuquerque, NM 7.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
