They communicate really well. During the Covid-19. I have gotten regular emails. We really like the religious aspect of the community. The staff there is very nice and cheerful. To me since it is a God-centered community that was really important.

The previous facility we were at had more patient staff, but it was twice the price. Saint Therese of Woodbury was a cheaper option for us. We do not take advantage of all that they have to offer to us.

Doesn't deserve a 5* rating like we were told
My wife spent 4 weeks in rehab section. Half the aides were rude and disrespectful. Housekeeping was awful swept and mopped the floor once never cleaned shower never disinfectant bathroom emptied trash and wiped sink out. Cafeteria couldn't get menu right she is diabetic and has celiac disease if someone was allergic to something they could have died. Nurse's and therapist were great they deserve the 5* rating. Everything else don't deserve any stars. I had to wheel my wife out at discharge nobody helped.

Where are all the staff???
Dad is in their transitional care unit for a broken back. The staff don’t know how to use the brace. The staff don’t take him for walks…but they do cognitive therapy. For a back injury. They don’t assist in anything without asking. Nice building. Inattentive staff. If I want dad to get exercise I have to drive 25 miles to do it myself. I’m fine doing that because I love my father but it’s a pretty expensive bill to have such a lack of service and basic care.

Awful place to receive care!
Terrible place for anyone to go. I will never recommend it to anyone I know! My grandfather was there for a few weeks recovering from sickness and in need of physical therapy. He was so mistreated by many of the staff and they didn’t follow good practices. While he was there he told my family about one of the time when a nurse came in and force fed him a medicine and refused to tell him what the medicine was for since he was already given his medicine for the evening. He also told us about another staff member who came in to help him to the bathroom (after he called for staff multiple times with no response) and she left him in the bathroom alone and unable to take care of himself and get back to bed, which resulted in him calling staff again multiple times before someone else came to assist him. Then finally he was confused and having complications. Instead of having his legal caregiver, who is legally in charge of filling out and signing his paperwork since he is not able to himself, fill it out, the staff themselves filled it out for him and had him sign the form saying he wanted to be a DNR patient, which was against his wishes, but they failed to inform him what he was signing. Then when he became unresponsive But what breathing, luckily a nurse noticed he signed the form instead of his caregiver and called his caregiver to ask what she should do. Which I’m turn was to bring him to the hospital. All I can say is this place is a horrible place to receive care. I no longer trust having my sick or in need Family members there. He was so mistreated and didn’t follow simple protocols. I’m sorry but if the staff doesn’t want to properly follow rules or have proper treatment of their patients then don’t work there or in that field. I will NEVER send anyone I know there again.

Do Not Recommend
My grandma recently stayed at this facility for a number of weeks as she recovered and received therapy services. Although she raved about a few number of the staff, her overall experience was less than poor. Her nor our family would recommend or use this facility again. She was given a medication she was allergic to one of her first days there, which caused her to be sick for over a week. Even though she informed the staff of her medication allergies. We were then lied to about it from staff who told us it did not happen. Our family had a horrible time trying to get ahold of staff at the facility and it took my grandma firmly requesting to speak to someone for us to get a call back. My grandma asked multiple times if orders could be put in to receive compression stockings for her very swollen leg/foot, which various staff members commented on, but nothing was done about it. She had to correct staff when they were charting her information in the wrong chart or would come in to give her medications that were not hers. Luckily she is a smart and competent lady who worked as a nurse for many years, but this is very concerning for others who may not know otherwise. When it was time to discharge we had requested telehealth therapy be set-up due to COVID as she was recommended to continue with PT. This for some reason was unable to be set-up as the staff member in charge of doing so apparently was not familiar with telehealth therapy. We did not push it as we are able to assist her what she needs at home and she has a home exercise program. The communication and follow-through by most staff was lacking or absent. I have to say it seems as though they are doing a good job with COVID protocols and keeping residents safe, but overall would not recommend.

STAY AWAY
My mother was admitted yesterday. With COVID virus I could not enter and help her get settled. No one contacted me to tell me which unit she was in or the phone number of the nurse's station. She's on a strict diet but apparently they didn't read the med records that were given to them before she arrived or the hardcopy set she carried with her. My mother just called with some questions for me and also said she's running a fever. I decided to call the nurse's station...but had to go through a switchboard since I didn't have the number. The nurse's station is answered my a machine! Leave a message and staff will call back. I waited 15 minutes and called again. Left another message. It's been another 15 minutes of waiting. Tomorrow I start working on getting her out of there. It's a corporate money-grabbing machine.

St Therese of Woodbury Memory Care - don’t do it!
St Therese of Woodbury is a beautiful facility but don’t be fooled by what you see. Yes there are some good caregivers but the negatives far outweigh the positives in the care my mother-in-law received in the memory unit there. Poorly managed, total lack of communication, inconsistent care to total lack of the care she was paying top dollar for. I would never recommend this facility to anyone. Too many excuses and unkept promises. If you are looking for a place for a loved one cross St Therese off your list!!

My mom has had a cough for 4 weeks and they have done nothing. I watch employees talk on there phones and ignore lights on for assistance for everyone. I’ve heard lady scream for 15 minutes and when employee saw me they put down there cell phone and went in. A lot of other issues I’ve noticed. Now I’m believing the horror stories you hear from senior care facilities and not impressed with care being supplied for $10500 per month . There are some really good and nice employees but they make up the smallest percentage.

Avoid at all costs
My mom lived at St Therese for one year and it was terrible. We paid close to $4000/mo for a small one-bed apt with a pull cord in the bathroom (that called up an aide who never could help our mom, they still called 911 both times she fell), and two terrible meals a day that took too long to come to the table. There was no one in charge. No worker who ever knew my mom’s name stayed very long. This is a money-making machine that seems to care nothing for the residents or the employees. I never got the same person on the phone twice. They failwd in their daily safety check and my mom was down for 24 hours kn e and could have died. Beautiful facility is wasted by terrible, greedy, uncaring management or owner.

Amazing transitional care
Cannot think of one negative thing to say about this facility. It is a beautiful property with many amenities. The staff is amazing. Every level of care is given by extremely professional and kind members of St Therese staff. I was a patient for 6weeks and was extremely happy with everything, and everyone that I came in contact with. God bless all of you. Please don’t lose that amazing level of care, like other facilities in the area. Thank you for everything. Sorry I am so late in adding this review, but I am still getting out patient PT....which will resume shortly.

Horrible organization
St. Therese is poorly run and is a terrible organization. Their corporate leadership is inept, unprofessional, and downright mean. My parents were at this facility and I got to know many of the staff. A few were nice but told me many times that it's a horrible organization that cares nothing of the staff or the residents. Staff disappeared all the time, especially management. Some walked off, but most were fired. Horrible organization.

Could be five stars
My Dad has been a resident in assisted living since mid November. It is a beautiful facility with friendly staff. Their pricing is difficult to understand as they are trying to move away from a point system that most other facilities use. There are plenty of activities which are impressive for a community of this size. My Dad uses a walker and everything is easily accessible which would have not been the case with a larger facility where he would have joined scooterville. I would give St. Therese an overall 5 star rating if it were not for the lousy food service. It looks bad and tastes even worse. On his first night he was served pancakes and sausage. Sauerkraut seems to be a staple. Ordering off the menu produces even worse results, These residents represent the greatest generation and women who defined what a homemaker is. They deserve better. So please, prepare meals that you or your own parents would eat.

Gorgeous facility
I toured here when looking for a place for my dad and this place was gorgeous. I was trying to find someplace that was more centrally located so we didn’t choose this one because of that. The whole facility was very open and the sizes of the rooms were large. I thought they were very suitable. They were just coming back from an outing when I took a tour and there seemed to be a lot of interaction between the staff and the residents. You really felt at home. I would’ve preferred to have my dad here if it had been a better location.

Dining experience
4 of us family members decided to eat supper with a loved one who is in transitional care at St Therese of Woodbury. Our loved one who is in there told me ahead of time the food was not very good. He is not a complainer so I did take notice. This was the understatement of the year. This was the worst excuse for food I have ever been served. Some of us had the shrimp scampi. It was noodles with nothing on them and 4 small shrimp. Also included were some warmed up frozen peas and carrots. All of it barely warmed up. Some chose the other option of turkey sandwich. 2 pieces of bread, 1 thin slice of packaged turkey meat and a slice of cheese. Our loved one called it prison food. (not that he had ever been in prison). He is there for rehab now but we will bring food in the next time we eat with him. P.S. I have never written a bad review before this.

A tour the care of family.
We like the tour at this community. We found the staff to be very attentive to answer the questions we had on the care that is offered. The community was clean and it had a nice environment. The menu was appealing and the list of activities would have been helpful. We would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

Overall Parents are Well
For the most part everything is working out well for my parents with their move to this community. They are doing well, and I do feel comfortable with their move here. Thing only thing I would recommend is that they have some type of orientation to the community. They dumped a lot of information on my parents, and it was overwhelming. Other than that issue this is a nice community. They have a helpful, friendly staff. They do a good job with the cleanliness. They provide nice meals, and good activities. I would recommend this community, and also they have an orientation when someone moves into the community.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Minnesota regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Minnesota regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Saint Therese of Woodbury 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
