Paradise Valley Senior Living review
Paradise Valley Senior Living is recently under new management and is still adjusting in many areas. There is a care worker in each cottage and a med tech (one per two cottages) who distributes medication and assists with other needs. Most of the med techs were good.
The cottage was situated near another cottage, both with access to a lovely outdoor area with walking paths and benches in the sun and shade — very pretty landscaping.
I felt comfortable coming and going throughout the day. I could sit in the living area or take my loved one outside, or sit in the room with the TV. Residents were able to do the same. The only problem was that there were not enough workers to supervise all the residents. I saw one woman who would crawl outside and inside without anyone paying attention to her. Once when she came into the cottage and was crawling on the floor, the care worker called out to her to get up but made no effort to help her. That was one of the workers I later reported for not doing her job.
Pull-ups and diapers are not changed without a med tech assisting. There were occasions when my loved one sat in a soiled diaper for hours. Within a few weeks, a serious bed sore developed. A hospice wound care technician came every few days to treat it.
The weekday cottage workers were usually caring. I dreaded the weekends because the residents did not always receive everything they needed.
Staff:
[Name Removed] – Executive Director: He was helpful during the initial interview but fairly unavailable afterward.
[Name Removed] – Sales Director: She was the main contact during admission, cottage assignment, and room readiness. She is organized and attentive. On move-in day, the room was not clean — there was urine on the floor and mattress — but she had the bed changed and the floor cleaned that afternoon. She was always available, even when concerns did not pertain to her specific role.
[Name Removed] – Resident Care Coordinator: Hard-working and knowledgeable about each resident. She was available to discuss changing health needs and was able to arrange hospice quickly when additional care was required. She listened and gave good advice. I reported instances of lax care to her, and she was receptive and noted the staff involved. She mentioned they were working on readjusting staffing.
During the month my loved one was there, a doctor never saw him. I had to contact prior physicians to adjust medications. The staff nurse saw him, but a doctor was never arranged (insurance required a physician to be assigned).
[Name Removed] – Receptionist: Always pleasant and helpful. An excellent employee.
[Name Removed] – Nurse: She frequented the cottage and attended to residents’ needs. She went above and beyond, showing love and concern. When health declined, she checked in daily and communicated with hospice.
Activities: I did not see activities planned for this cottage. There was a TV in the living area, but little effort to find programming residents might enjoy — usually the news ran all day. In December, I saw residents from other cottages attend a Christmas celebration with music and entertainment, but no one from this cottage was brought to the main building. Most would have enjoyed it. It seemed likely there were not enough staff to transfer residents while supervising those who remained.
Food/Dining: Food was prepared by a new chef in the main kitchen and transported to each cottage. Meals were served on sectioned plates. The menu was varied and looked appetizing. However, more care could have been taken for residents who had difficulty chewing. I microwaved vegetables for a few residents so they could eat them more easily. Puréed meals were provided for those who needed them. Desserts always looked good.
Beauty Shop: The on-site beautician was great — patient and cheerful. However, after three weeks, the necessary paperwork had not been sent to schedule a haircut, so I arranged an appointment myself.
Cleanliness: In addition to the cottage care worker, there is separate staff for cleaning and laundry, and they do a good job. The cottage care worker is responsible for cleaning additional messes during the day, though some were slow to show initiative.
Room/Apartment Size: The room included a wardrobe and bed; we brought additional furniture. The bathroom was very nice and clean. The room was a good size, and it was easy to set up a month-to-month DIRECTV subscription. After move-in, the room was consistently kept clean.

Frustrating Experience.
The rooms and facility was nice enough. The staff in my dad's unit were poorly trained and unkind. My Dad died at the facility with no hospice care because no-one recognized his condition. After he passed we never heard one word from the facility. No note or call, no assistance NOTHING. Communication with the administrator was horrible. I cannot recommend this facility.

Good Overall Value
Most of the caregivers are wonderful. Communication with/from staff and administration is difficult and it can be challenging to get the information you need; just keep asking questions! Not much variety in activities, but the Activities Director is super sweet and loves the residents. Food is amazing!!

The main reasons we chose this facility over others was because of the private room he was able to get and it is a pet friendly facility so he could have his cat.

My husband had wonderful time at Pacifica. The personnel were very attentive. I was kept in the loop when issued occurred I also liked that I that I didn't have to bring med meds and the doctors needing would come to him.

my family's experience
The idea of cottages and the secured area for residents to wander around. That there are different levels of care as needed for residents. Improvement would come if staff was more helpful in the cottages. They seem to acknowledge concerns but no effort made to correct the concerns.

The staff and residents are helpful and friendly. They allow you to feel at home. The food looks good and they accommodate special diets. I must admit I was impressed when I toured the facility. The staff seems interested in the residents, who seem content.

Pacifica has been a great facility. If there was a section titled Communication I would have given it a 4 but that’s really been my only issue. They were 5 star communicators before we signed. It’s been nothing urgent and with being a new family to this entire process, we had a lot to learn. We don’t know what we don’t know so I’ve learned to ask a lot of questions and guide the level of care for my father from there.

From our initial visit, through the creation of his care plan, actual move & subsequent daily care, both he & I have been treated with professionalism, respect, empathy & wisdom. An Outstanding Facility
It would be hard to overstate how impressed I am with the facility and the staff. Everyone is professional, friendly, and demonstrates a willingness to make residents comfortable. The marketing director has been particularly helpful and ma de a difficult move easier and more comfortable. The residents care director is very knowledgeable and responsive which gives me a high level off confidence that my daughter will be properly cared for. I would highly recommend Pacifica to anyone.

Good Decision!!
I have found everyone to be extremely helpful with helping me get my mom situated and comfortable in her new living arrangements. The staff is always there to answer any questions and help in any way they can. It's an open door policy which makes it feel more like a family. My mother loves her apartment and the cleanliness of the facility.
The nursing staff is always there to make sure my mother receives all her care. Just knowing that the staff has my mom's best interest in mind and goes above and beyond to make sure she's happy has taken a lot of pressure off of myself. I am thankful that my mom is in good, caring hands.

The staff members are nice, but there is just not enough and they have difficulty reaching out loved one by phone due to the staffing shortages. When it comes to the quality of care that is so far so good. We have never seen any meals, and there were no activities going on until recently. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families but with the understanding that communication can be difficult

My tour with Pacifica Senior Living Paradise Valley was terrible. I walked into their lobby. Nobody knew about our appointment. The lobby looked like it was a storage room with boxes and stuff stashed everywhere. I didn't get to have a tour because they stated they didn't know about my appointment.

Unfortunately, you arrived just after our community-wide deliveries from Amazon were dropped off and it was human error. Not that this is an excuse but you deserve an explanation. I toured with Pacifica Senior Living Paradise Valley and it has two buildings. The rooms in one and meals and activities in the other. That set up was not going to work out well for our mother. Plus, there was no outdoor courtyard or area to sit enjoy the weather. These are the main reasons we did not choose Pacifica.
