Pacifica/Skylyn Place Review
Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is clean. The move in process was smooth. The communication is lacking, it's been hard to get in touch with the Director about questions that I've had. The food is good so far. I would recommend the facility, my dad seems to like it

Worst experience of my life.
I was lied to about cost from day one. Care by staff and protection from hostile patients was non existent. Was forced to pay charges that I did not owe and charged late fees at $[removed] month when I had paid early every month. Proof was given by me. Was forced to pay or they would throw him out. Derogatory comments kept him from being placed in a VA facility due to a statement that he made as a dementia patient. All new directors came in and refused to refund me. Home office as well never returned my calls. Never. Ever !!!!

The truth is that shortly after moving in, there was a change in ownership. All that we expected was taken away. The independent living with services became 'family' living. I'm not sure if they even received a license for the new operation. They have yet to refund money paid for the services not provided. We have had to secure our own medical transportation, food, and housekeeping. The facility is in desperate need of repair. Broken pipes, failing ac, and heating systems are ongoing. The kitchen is now also closed for the assisted living residents. The cleanliness leaves a LOT to be desired. Unfortunately, my dad, at 93, is not willing to move again. Therefore, we are doing our best to keep him safe and cared for while maintaining his desire for independence. I would never recommend Pacifica to anyone. I hold hope that at some point, my dad will agree to move with us or to a facility with a higher level of care and concern for their residents. That said, the current property manager for family living is doing the best that she can with the limited cooperation she gets from the parent company. The most recent maintenance man just quit because he couldn't get the funds to make basic repairs.

There was a room next to my dad's apartment that had the door sealed and an official condemned notice on it. They serve 2 meals a day (no breakfast) and the menu was never what they served. They sued me when dad moved - we were charged wrong 4 times and got it corrected. Then the corporate office said we owed it still. I couldn't get any documentation from the Pacifica because the women who had handled that were no longer there. Three of them successfully sued the corporation for wrongful dismissal. I know two families who are suing because of lack of care and overcharging. The residents aren't happy and quickly tell you they feel trapped by income. And the doctor running skilled nursing was so incompetent my father was rushed to the ER not 3 hours after the doctor saw him and said everything was great!! Dad was in ICU for several weeks. It looks shabby. There are ceiling tiles that fell in from water damage that never got fixed. One of the elevators was out of service the entire time dad was there. They cannot keep cna's or nurses. They told us we had to use their prescription service. Dad's meds were so messed up. He had so many left over he'd never been given. It took me going to his doctors to straighten out what their NP had done. And the women in charge of his medicine didn't give it to him half the time. I had to go over twice a day to make sure he got at least that correct. I never took legal action against Pacifica because their lawyer was clear that if I did, they'd bring other charges against me and my father. He was so depressed there his health declined further. Now, he's doing great!

Great. But not
Initially everything and everyone at the facility was wonderful. I only encountered ONE employee that was anything other than pleasant and super helpful. The ability to reach out to someone and get a VERY quick response was comforting. There were some issues with sorting out mom’s meds that eventually fixed. I would like to think that my biggest issue was something out of the hands of the local facility. Approximately one month after mom moved in, the residents were informed that the entire facility was closing down. It’s been a big challenge getting mom settled and adjusted to her new normal…and now we have to start over.

Safety factors were hardly there or non existent. No office phone that worked, no emergency pulls that were activated, no doors that were locked Staff would come and take food from residents and silverware Residents were required to bringtheir own cups and silverware to the dinners. All activities were found far away from the assisted living area, making it almost impossible to join any activity There were zero paperwork on when residents were bathed, checked on, or given meds It was just awful. Dirty, unsafe, and zer o communication from management or staff.

The people seem very kind but communication is difficult. There doesn't seem to be a direct line to the nurse's station and if you call after hours it's very difficult to check in on your loved one. Also there was also miscommunication between the sales and finance departments that ended up costing me extra money and extra stress. But my mother seems happy there.

Hell on Earth
Horrible. No words can describe the pathetic condition my mother had to endure. She was transferred to the assisted living section of the building where there is no one trained! They pay the lowest wage and get basically younwg people ho have no experience, desire or training to deal with the elderly. Her room was constantly dirty unless I cleaned it or finally we had to hire an outside organization, the food was ready whenever anyone felt like cooking. People sat in the dining room at the proper time and perhaps it would be brought to table before 7! There is nothing good I can say about this place. The management last year is under subpoena and people are moving out that can. Do NOT allow your loved ones to live here.

I would rate them a ZERO if I could. I would tell others looking into Pacifica Senior Living Skylyn for their loved ones, don't do it! Look elsewhere! There is a reason it is cheaper...sometimes you don't even get what you pay for! They need to invest in the facility instead of raking out profits to the detriment of the residents.

There is zero communication. There seems to be a lack of safety being a priority. Lack of daily items. ie- silverware and cups. The phone and internet system hardly worlds. And the list goes on... I would not recommend Pacifica Senior Living Skylyn to others, it was a very disappointing experience.

First Impression of Pacifica
They are doing the best that they can. They have new carpet and new flooring. They have been able to provide meals, and trips to the doctor. My loved one is happy with the food. It's a good value for the money. They can improve on the communication between administration and the clients. Something they have done well, is they have provided medical needs in a timely fashion.

Don't do it
My sister-in-law put my father-in-law into Pacifica and I sprung him six days later and brought him to my house. In just six days he missed at least three meals that I know about because no one would help him to the dining room. He uses a walker but the dining room was so far away he knew he could not make it that far. They told him "they didn't do that" when he asked. On his second day he pressed the call button for four hours and no one responded. On his third day he fell and spent three hours in the floor yelling for help. He finally crawled on his hands and knees to his door and got it open just wide enough that the resident across the hall heard him yelling and summoned help. He scraped the skin off his forearm and it took three months to heal after I brought him home. They told him they had church services every Sunday that he looked forward to, but they lied. They have a beautiful unused chapel. They don't answer the phone and don't return calls. It was a nightmare.

It's clean, friendly and not too costly. My loved one felt safe and I felt good about them being there. The community at Pacifica was great and the staff was caring. The only thing I would recommend for improvement would be their receptionists getting messages to the people in charge better. Sometimes there would be no response to my inquiries for a week or two until I reached out again. Besides that, it was great. Also, A Place for Mom is awesome as well. You all really helped me with my my loved one when I needed it. Thank you!

Our experience so far
There are some very caring and compassionate staff that work here. The other residents are very inclusive and friendly as well. The PT staff comes to her and they were all very experienced and helpful. There is a physicians assistant who sees my mother and she is qualified and professional. My loved one has a beautiful and spacious room, it feels like a little apartment which is a big plus. They have just hired a new activities director and I have seen some improvement just within the time she has been there. The calendar shows some great activities as well. The only downfall has been the fact that administrative staff have not been responsive to us when we have asked questions, no one ever gets back to us. First impression
We have not had a meal there ourselves but have not heard of any complaints from our loved one so we have to assume the meals and their service is really good. We do wish there was some better communication going on with the families and keeping us updated with things that are going on around the community during the week.
