Quality care
My mom passed away 11 months ago, but during the time she was there, I always knew she was safe, fed well, received her medication daily, was kept clean, and simply cared for. The staff built a personal relationship with her, as well as with me. For us, during the years she was there, I feel it was a positive experience, mostly due to a caring staff.

All Lies
The initial tour of the building is beautiful..all new construction...brand new everything. On the outside. On the inside of mt view is not so nice...when we opened a bathroom door at the end of a hall way it had been clogged for at least a week (heard workers talking) . There is a very very strong smell of urine in the building and coming from the furniture. The residents looked doped up and sad. Aside from all that...the employees were very over worked. We spoke with a few (the women giving us the tour was hesitant, now we know why) of the girls.. we were told by [name removed] that each shift was staffed by a nurse, medtech, and at least 3 aides. Come to.find out they have not employed a nurse since July. Also 7/7 days there are only 2 aides and 1 medtech. At times 1 aide and 1 medtech. 1 aide to almost 40 people. This is not a safe environment for someone with dementia. A lot of the residents has Bruises on their faces/heads that maybe could have been prevented.

Terrible
My father suffered from dementia and diabetes and this was know prior to him gaining admittance. Each day they provided him with a high sugar diet that caused him dangerous spikes to his blood sugar and overall health and their is a direct correlation with diabetes and dementia/Alzheimer's. They began to give a cerebrally impaired 89 year old man sugar concentrated food and begun to give him insulin. They gave him far too much insulin one evening and he went into diabetic shock. Due to their error they finally sent him to West Moreland hospital where he contracted Covid. Due to it being at the height of Covid no families were provided visitation rights. They called & reluctantly told me my father was dying. He was in a room & gave him morphine & left to die. He was provided a respirator that did not work & left to die. My son and I got in the facility and at late in the evening I had him removed to the VA where he died. The director or any Walnut Ridged never checked on him

An okay facility for the advanced dementia patients they mostly had. Not good for early stage dementia.
Be sure to check about the visitation policy. They were still following very strict visitation when my loved one was there - supposedly for Covid precautions. They only allowed us to visit once a week for one hour. But that didn't make sense, because they took you to a big room with five other families who were also visiting their loved ones. (Wouldn't that also be a Covid risk??) They sold the facility and were not upfront about it, even when I asked them outright. They did take care of my loved one and her laundry and everything. But there was a strong odor of urine in the facility. And I wasn't able to see the quality of the meals since visitation was so restricted.

Beware
We had an overall, horrible experince. I removed my loved one from this community. The food was not good. It's under new management/ownership, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. My advice, would be to shop else where.

Very clean, good meals, highly recommend
We had no problem with Walnut Ridge. It was a fairly smooth transition too for our loved one. They get 5's for everything. The facility is very clean and the meals are good. I would highly recommend them. The facility was still on lock down when my grandma was placed there. So we had to make appts to see her and weren't allowed in her room. The staff and her nursing agency, [name removed], kept us in the loop as to how she was doing and communicated very well. There was even a month that no one was allowed in at all. They were great at letting us talk to her and always gave us updates.

Happy and at ease with our choice
We have only been here a few months, but it has been a very positive experience. Never have I smelled any odors and on a weekly basis I see someone with a cleaning cart making the rounds. Every staff member has always taken the time to answer my questions or concerns. Mom is always clean and looks healthy. I have visited at times when they had entertainment and have been told about craft activities. Comparatively it is a good value. However I understand they have a new owner as of this month so I am concerned about how all of the above might change. My overall response is very positive. One negative is not being able to see my loved ones rooms I am told it is because of covid. Another negative is that they have my loved ones glasses but keep them locked up, they are needed daily! Other than that I would recommend Walnut Ridge without reservation.

The staff really seemed to care about the residents. They are very special people. I actually had a friend up here as well and he seemed to be really happy. The room sizes were very nice, they were semi private so they shared a bathroom. It was a really good experience and I would definitely recommend Walnut Ridge Memory Care.

Perfect place for anybody looking for a dedicated memory care facility.
Walnut Ridge Memory Care is fantastic. I could not ask for a better place for my loved one. When he first moved in, he caused problems and was very disruptive. But they have met each one of his outbursts patiently and have finally gotten him to a place where he's calm and seems to enjoy where he's at. He's no longer asking me to take him home. I see them constantly cleaning every time I'm there. Anything that needs attention, they get on it right away and don't let anything wait. Of course patient care comes first, but they always have lots of help to take care of everything else as well. If he requires three people to get him up, there are always enough people to help. I cannot praise the staff more. I've never seen any of the patients go with any sort of problem - the staff are always on it right away. It's an older facility, and the furniture is showing signs of wear, but it's clean. They scrub the sofa and the rugs when needed. All the girls are super friendly. They always talk to me and tell me things he's done to make them laugh, or things they've done to make his stay more comfortable. The people in the business office have bent over backwards to help. They make sure that I am satisfied and that he is taken care of. I went in with the worst of expectations about these types of places, and I have been so pleasantly surprised with how friendly and helpful everyone is. They've been so helpful with filling out all the paperwork that's required for insurance and VA verification. They have someone who comes in on-site to cut hair and help with beard grooming. They're working with us to make sure his mustache doesn't get shaved off after it happened on accident initially. He gets regular showers, which I was having problems getting him to agree to at home. I have nothing but praise for this place. He does have hospice care as well, but the daily care he gets from the girls at Walnut Ridge is fantastic. They know his preferences and know what he needs in order to get him to cooperate with their help. I give them top ratings on everything. They bend over backwards to care for him and have worked with us through any challenges that have come up.

Disappointing
All the right answers were given to me on the phone; however, when my loved one was going into the community they weren't up front with my other loved one when dropping my loved one off. They didn't communicate the very limited visiting hours. They weren't watching out for dehydration of my loved one and they ended up in the hospital, and never went back to the community. I wouldn't recommend Walnut Ridge Memory Care to others for their loved ones. I feel this was a big disappointment. It took over 30 days to refund the money that was owed to the family and to get our loved one's items out of the community. They charged us days when my loved one wasn't in the community and we informed them my loved one wasn't returning.

Based on our recent experiences with recent staff - it would be a facility I would recommend
The Walnut Ridge community has a homey like atmosphere to is and is very residents focused. Right now visitation is on hold as well as the activities, they have had a couple cases of covid. Usually when they have visitation they do a good job keeping people away from the main gathering areas to help with social distancing and lessoning the "clutter."

Overall, this community is very good. The director is very responsive. Communications from the staff is somewhat inconsistent on occasion. As in any organization there are staff who are superb and a very few who are adequate. A little more concern for family members would be good.

Great Experience with Walnut Ridge Memory Care
We are actually caring for our loved one from out of state. We were really, really impressed with the whole process of getting him into the facility, and with them communicating with us about what was happening with him when he was there. We were just very impressed with how they made that all happen with a long distance type of situation.

Review of Walnut Ridge Memory Care
I was pleased with the care my husband received during his 1.5-year stay. All the workers were friendly and pleasant and easy to like. The food was very good and well planned. The planned picnics and parties where families were invited were very nice. I liked the church services and activities. I missed the last 9 months of visiting my husband because of the Covid pandemic.

Review of Walnut Ridge Memory Care
My husband [name removed] had a rare form of dementia called FTD (Fronto - temporo - dementia). It is a very aggressive and young-onset type. The staff at Walnut Ridge were fantastic. I took my husband there at the beginning of Covid-19. They accepted him without hesitation. The entire staff kept me up to date on his status. When in hospice they were above and beyond. I could be there for his final sleep. Thank you!

During a year of total frustration due to the covid 19 pandemic, I find the staff and management caring, understanding and helpful. They kept me well informed of the Covid situation and the requirements needed for a new resident. Now I see improvement in my wife's health. They help me informed of any condition or problems.
