Dad living his best life
My Dad was reluctant to move into assisted living. Just after a few weeks, he was dining with new friends, and participating in new activities. The community is clean and neat, and the staff is top notch! Dad loves it there and this is his home. What a special treat to spend time on the 5th floor - 360 views of the entire valley. Everyone is very kind. You could pay more to live somewhere else, but why? everything is here!

fine except for the hostile management
My loved ones moved out of Merrill Gardens [date removed] ago to a private home. They were very unhappy with Merrill Gardens management. Serious negative experience with general manager and senior management overall, but much more positive experience with kitchen and other support staff. Many concerns for example senior management refused to provide basic. Meals were hit or miss. We understand that overall they were probably better than many other places but for the $, ?? Our main concern was not having low sodium options. The games and other silly activities were fine for those who like that but intellectual activities, such as book club and community discussion. Too expensive not to have better service/care from management.

Review for Merrill Gardens at West Covina
The manager is difficult to work with and insists it is her perogative. Staff turnover is constant.The manager should be more concerned with pleasing the paying tenants rather than being recognized by the city for allowing them to hold mtgs at Merrill Gardens.

Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. Always ready to answer any questions. Housekeeping staff are diligent and honest. The move in was easy and very accessible. The meals are always excellent. I have recommended this facility to family and friends.

Very nice!
I toured Merrill Gardens at West Covina and it was by far the nicest place I've ever seen! I would have done anything to be able to afford this place for my loved one! Unfortunately, they offer a very low starting price and then increase the cost 10% per year! My loved one wouldn't have had the funds to be able to stay here for as long as she may need.

They are having a lot of staff turnover. That makes my loved one uneasy with new faces popping up. They are very quick to respond to issues that arise, which is terrific. Still waiting for the staffing issues to be resolved. The manager and chef was helping in the restaurant the other day.

Our families experience
So far my mom has been well taken care of. There are some issues with communication from management to tenants and that needs improvement but it's mostly been a positive experience. My Mimi's very comfortable and pleased.

This facility is new and fresh, very clean. Housekeeping is included. They offer activities, but they are often cancelled. Admin staff is a bit cranky and dramatic. The other staff seems nice overall. There's not much outside space, which is really the only downside. Pricing is good.

Award winning "5-Star" senior living facility
I am super excited to write this review on such an exceptional senior living facility as Merrill Gardens located in West Covina.
I have been blessed help advocate for a 91 year old Marine veteran who was my mentor 40 years ago. When he decided to move from Alabama to Southern California, I helped take him around to visit and consider several senior living facilities.
When we contacted and met with[name removed] who is the General Manager, we were first impressed with her professionalism and even more impressed with the genuine care, concern and compassion she displayed while providing us with a presentation and a comprehensive tour of Merrill Gardens. It was such a great first impression that it didn’t take my mentor long to decide to make this place his home.
Now that he has been a resident for three weeks, words cannot convey just what a wonderful facility Merrill Gardens really is. It is a super clean, well maintained and smooth-running facility.

They have been doing a fantastic job so far. It would be nice if they cleaned the carpet. It is very clean, and the floor is always vacumned. The care services is okay but could be improved. The interaction with the staff fantastic, and they are always willing to try. The food is good. The activities for the garden area, is different than the other area. Compared to other places,, it's pretty good value for the money, and is very reasonable.

Peace of Mind, Found What I Was Looking For With A Place for Mom
I believe this is a great place. This has both assisted living and memory care, and this allows your loved one to stay in the same community surroundings. There are people here that are still very independent as well. There is a big mix of care types of residents in the community.
The communication with staff is good. The meals are served in the dining room three times a day, and there are menus for the residents to order off of. Your family can eat a meal with you for a fee. The meals would be delivered to the residents rooms if the resident is sick.
They had great COVID protocols and they didn't have any COVID residents in the community. They also have offered boosters to the residents. They have their own in house pharmacy.
There are so many activates available for the residents. There are movie nights, meet and greet for residents, and more to choose from. They have a piano bar.
There is a beauty salon on site for the residents to use for a separate fee, and standing appointments are greatly appreciated. This includes hair cuts, hair color, nails, pedicures, and facials.

Tour experience
Merrill Gardens was going to be our second choice if the facility we went with did not work out. [name removed] who helped us out was so helpful and went out of her way to answer any questions. She was also always available if we needed her. The facility itself was very nice and the location was close to my loved ones friends too. I like the fact that my loved one would be able to transition from assisted living over to memory care because that is a possibility in the future that we may need.

Merrill Gardens is very short staffed and they make excuses that they're short staffed. we're paying full price, so unless they'd like to discount us for the lack of staff, they shouldn't make excuses. the cleaning wasn't done correctly in my loved ones room.
it's still a good place with good residents. it's a good place for my mom. we're happy she's there, but every place needs improvement.

Amazing value
This is a great senior living facility for your loved one. You are getting so much more than the other communities. They have activities like a gym, games, movie nights, board games, entertainment and more for the residents to do to stay busy.

This community has really helped our loved one improve in all areas, everybody has been so wonderful. The administrator when we first were going through the assessment process was very attentive and accommodating. The activities director does an amazing job during the tough times of covid they would take pictures of the resident to send to their loved ones so they could see what is going on.
