We chose this facility because it was one of the only ones that did not smell of urine when we walked in. It is also a great value for the money for this area. I would recommend Locust Grove to others.

Situated on several acres, Locust Grove is a quiet, residential senior living community located near The Waterfront and Kennywood Amusement Park as well as AHN Jefferson Hospital, UPMC McKeesport, and UPMC Mercy. This place is no longer a senior living facility. Residents had to be moved out by Dec. 2024. Thankfully, we moved my parents from here a year ago. Used agency workers who could care less about the residents & had, on numerous occasions, yelled at my parents. Rooms were never cleaned unless we went in & did it ourselves. Activities were very limited & held at opposite end of building from residents, making it hard for some to get to. Raised the cost 3 times in last year they were living there. Only good thing was the food.

Needs improvement
Director is very bad with communicating with the family representative for the resident.
I think the food was good enough. They could have tried to persuade my family member to join in more or match them with someone with like interests. The biggest problem was my father-in-law was one of the few male residents and most of the activities were attended by the ladies and he was uncomfortable being the only male at activities.

Would absolutely recommend!
They've been amazing to my dad. All of the staff I have met have been wonderful, rooms and maintenance of everything is on point, the food is actually delicious even my 14 year old picky daughter loves it. The price for what we're getting is very good. My dad really loves the doctor and nursing staff. It's in a pretty quiet location in a residential area so my dad is able to go outside to enjoy some fresh air. He's really free to do almost everything and anything he wants. The activities they offer are pretty cool, like today they have a zoo coming! It's a pretty special place and I never would have found it without you guys!

My mom was previously a resident at Locust Grove for a short time and most everything was great for her while she was there. However, the cleanliness of her actual room was just okay. Everything else was great.

A Place for dad
I recently went looking at Memory Care facilities for my father. I visited 9 places but when I went to Locust Grove, I just knew this was the place for my father. It felt like coming home. It was bright and cheerful and everyone was a joy when speaking with them.
When head of sales was showing me around and explaining the memory care services, she was very helpful! She replied to all my follow up emails and text messages quickly. She made the whole experience easier for me, as she knew this was a difficult decision for me.
The nurse doing the intake visit with my dad was wonderful! She was sweet and caring and made my dad feel very comfortable during this process.
The day I moved him in, the activities director for memory care was reassuring and explained the activities of the day. She advised I can call to check on him and to give him a little time to get settled and use to the community. He will love the daily activities they have.

The staff is the best part
They have a great memory care unit. I went one day to check it out and they had pool noodles and gave those to the residents and they blew up a balloon and they had to try to keep it into the air. They really try and keep them active and they make it fun. My loved one enjoyed it while she was here. The staff are all wonderful especially the executive director and went above and beyond for us. [name removed] was great with my mom too, she brought in pop-its because she likes to fidget. She has her own little apartment and is very comfortable. It is very expensive but depending on what you want for your family members it is worth it.

Tour experience
We really loved Locust Grove after touring the facility. The lady we were working with was so sweet and super helpful in answering the questions we had. She followed up with us after and we spoke on the phone for a while too. The ONLY reason we did not choose them was because we wanted to move mom closer to us and this location was a little further away. Otherwise this would have been our first pick.

Mom is very happy here
We chose Locust Grove because it was closest to her home so she was familiar with that area. The director that I dealt with was very very helpful, he is doing a great job and I would like to commend him. My mom is very happy here and we would recommend to others who are looking.

The right choice for me.
Locust Grove is a very adequate place. They have different floor plans for the rooms. The food is sufficient. The staff kind. I did check out other properties and Locust Grove was my top choice.

Mom is doing good.
My mom has been at Locust Grove for 6 months and is enjoying the activities and companionship. She has finally accepted this as her "home away from home". The aides are kind and friendly, the med techs and staff great about resolving problems. She is safer, healthier, and happier at Locust Grove than she was living alone in her house.

I have to say DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS. If you did a tour and find a a place that is filthy and smells like urine then why put your loved one into a place like that?
Both my mom and grandmother were at Locus Grove. We did a tour with one of the staff members. The place is bright and cheerful and the residence were up and about. And no we were not greeted with the smell of urine. It looked and smelled clean. The rooms were big and reminded me of home. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help us during such a stressful time.
Common sense says tour a facility before you have to bring a loved one to it.

When I walked in the door, I wanted to turn around and run, but they had already spotted me. The facility is dreary and reminds me of a nursing home. Menu selections were minimal and unappetizing. Very blue collar.
