Great Senior Community
We moved Mom out about a year ago. I'm not in the loop any longer.
We were in the independent side so I would say the Activities team was great.
Apartments were a nice size. We had a studio but it was perfect for one person in a wheelchair

Great Senior Community

One star too many
Please review First Colonial Inns violations online. My father stayed here and was grossly mistreated, misdiagosed, and getting his meds administered was a struggle every day. They are understaffed always and it’s mind boggling how they are able to continue operating. Don’t waste your money. Keep looking. First Colonial is beyond awful.

Very disappointing experience.
Not receiving the care that was promised. Getting my father out as soon as I can before wasting more money. No nursing help, medicines missed, they don't know where residents are and skip medicines, faabs broken, nurses with attitudes. No help with patient portal, computers always down, etc etc. Don't be fooled.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour experience was great . The lady we spoke with [name removed] was so impressive to work with, she was very helpful and thorough throughout the tour we were very pleased with her presentation. We noticed on the tour there are a lot of couples here which is great, but it may work out better for a "younger crowd" we thought our loved one would feel a little lost there. It looks like a really great facility though, we just did not like their meal set up. One meal was included and if you wanted additional meals they were add ons.

Great Community, Good Move, Great People
I am very happy and pleased with our experience. I would encourage you to visit to see if it would be a good fit for your loved one. My loved one has jumped right in to the activities. They have bingo, exercise classes, outings, and more for the residents to choose from. They have a beauty salon on site for the residents to use, this includes hair and nails.
There are meals available with different menu options for the residents to choose from. The food is good with a dinner special each night.

It's worth looking into
My experience here at First Colonial Inn has been good. I've talked to multiple people, I've had dinner with them and I've given them a good opinion of the place. I will say the activities are geared more towards the women, but the ratio is about 6:1. In my 5 months of being here, none of the activities have peaked my interest. The meals could be a bit better and have more variety. It's an awful lot of money to spend, but it's the best care I know of in this area. I'm pretty well satisfied here, but it's not home.

My Review
I would like to acknowledge the kindness displayed by you and your staff, not only during this stressful time but also throughout my mother's stay at First Colonial Inn, since Fall 2017. Staff members have come and gone during her time there; but she always had positive things to say to me about their efforts to make life pleasant for residents. Their kindness reminded me in some way of the dedication my mother found in the kitchen staff who, in recent months, delivered meals to individual apartments on a daily basis. While I wish that my mother could have resided at First Colonial Inn many more months and years, I take comfort in knowing that she enjoyed an independent lifestyle while having the benefits of a caring staff.

First Colonial Inn saved my dads and possibly my moms life, I truly believe that. Although a bumpy road at times it was the best place for them this past year and to see them living independently again almost feels like a miracle. My mom is so happy.

Wonderful Community
My mother moved into First Colonial July 2021. So far I have been really impressed with the staff and the community. Everyone there has been very helpful and goes above and beyond to make sure my mother is taken care of. It was a difficult move her, leaving her home of 20 years in Alexandria, however everyone at First Colonial has made her feel welcome and she is very happy there. I highly recommend First Colonial Inn!

Amazing and Caring Staff at First Colonial Inn
Relocating my 90-year-old mother from her home of close to 40 years was stressful and emotional for mom and me. The staff at made the move and transition easy, especially since I live out of state. The Senior Sales Director was awesome. I had to buy new furniture for mom and she helped me with measurements and furniture ideas since I live out of town.
I spent the first day with the maintenance staff. They helped with the move in, hung TVs, put up a head board, offered to hang pictures and were there to do anything we needed.
The Resident Relations Director, made mom feel at home. It is obvious she cares about the health, happiness and wellbeing of the residents. The staff in general are friendly and caring.
The on-site hairdresser is a doll. Mom had her hair cut and colored. The hairdresser texted me a picture to show me how good mom looks.
The grounds are gorgeous and the dog friendly environment is a bonus.
I made the right decision choosing First Colonial Inn for my mother.

They have normal assisted living rooms, and then about 5-6 rooms that meet the fire code for people who need help getting out when the fire alarm goes off. They didn't have one of those rooms available at the time that we needed it for our loved one. But they are right down the street from us, and definitely would have been a consideration. I thought it was very nice there.

Very good but small
We chose this facility due to the convenient location and the friendliness of everyone we came into contact with. They were really willing to work with my mom on her unique circumstances. The apartment sizes are small and the bathrooms are very small as well. The staff here have been wonderful and I would recommend to others looking.

We chose First Colonial Inn because we enjoyed this one the most out of the different ones that we toured. They have a variety of sizes of rooms here and you get what you pay for. I have eaten here a couple times with mom and the food was just fine. Overall, we have had a good experience and would recommend to others.

We chose First Colonial Inn because of the location, affordability, the staff members were friendly, and they had a lot of activities to offer (before COVID). The apartment sizes here are adequate. I have eaten at the facility before and it was pretty good, they are chef prepared meals and have a menu with variety. if you do not want the meal of the day, you are able to order other hings. The best part about this community is the people, they are all very friendly. I would highly recommend.
