A New Home
When we were looking for a new place to move my mom, cost was a factor. We really liked this community. Her apartment is in the remodeled wing and it is supposed to have extra staff available for the population. The communication has been great, although, due to the current situation, we would like if they would put out a weekly newsletter with building updates.
We have only had limited ability to visit, but when we were there the staff were nice and friendly.

The Cottages of Madison, in operation for more than 20 years, offers CBRF-assisted living, licensed for Alzheimer’s, dementia and related neurological diagnoses.
Our warm, welcoming, secure community has the perfect balance of private and public community living space, making it quaint, functional and familiar—like home. Our three cottages—Applewood, Elmwood and Oakwood—each support 16 residents in a close-knit, family-like environment. With low caregiver to resident ratios, our staff is equipped to focus on each individual, while helping the community thrive as a whole.
Our Age-in-Place Program ensures that residents are able to receive increasing levels of care and support as their needs change—without having to seek out other care options or move to another location. Under this philosophy of care, residents—regardless of their individual functional or cognitive disabilities—live together in a safe, secure, supportive environment.

Our motivation for writing this review of the Cottages of Madison is to warn others — Don't go there. There were a number of problems. The patient was seen in the ER because of cognitive changes and was found to have bed sores and was found to be dehydrated. The patient reported to his family that the staff was mean to him. There are no call buttons . At our request to remedy this, we were told a baby monitor could be used but it was never set up. We were told that on two occasions in a row, on the same day that the patient was not given his medication. First we were told that the patient refused the meds. Upon further discussion, and a look at the records by the manager, she said he was too lethargic to take pills and that there was no order to crush meds. We later found there was an order. We eventually reached a point where we told the decision makers that the care was neglectful and abusive and that our family member had to be moved immediately.

Wonderful place!
Everyone is very caring and attentive to my husband. He seems very comfortable there. He does have problems concentrating on activities and they try to get him involved. At the beginning they observed him to find what he likes and what his abilities are and worked with that. They have also added 2 new activity directors who are very kind and friendly. I am glad he is there!! I have peace of mind knowing that he is safe. They also let you know immediately if there are any problems or concerns. My husband is also a veteran and they work very well with the VA for medications and follow up. Wonderful place!!!! Great staff!!! Great leadership and administration!!!
