Affordable isnt always better
Nice at first. Clean. Quiet. If a person is fairly independent, not a bad place. If your loved one requires total care and/or is bed ridden, look somewhere else. Price was doable, still pricy for the amount of care given. Understaffed like most facilities of this nature are. Some of the staff really cares about what they do, others not so much. Seemed like some of the staff was miserable there and it showed in the care they provide. Very rushed. Still a nice facility, depending on the care needed. Private rooms are nice and quiet, but you have to furnish everything. For the price, I was expecting far better service. Too many issues to deal with so I brought my loved one home, under hospice care. We are much better off under hospice.

Wonderful New Home for Dad
What we like the most about the Brookside Stone Mountain is the quality of care provided from the director level to the nursing care level which is outstanding. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would definitely recommend this community to other families who are looking for a place for their loved ones.

Great new administration and staff!!!
Now that they have new managers, everything gets 5 stars! The new staff have all been extremely helpful and caring. The value for the money here is great and the main reason that we chose Brookside Stone Mountain. It is very very reasonable in compassion to others. Now with the new management, I would definitely recommend Brookside Stone Mountain to others looking.

Personal Care Home Nightmare
Overall experience was negative for my mom and our family. I would not recommend anyone to the facility. Market a service but don't follow through. Need to sell the property to someone who cares. High turnover in staff. Staff was overworked and under trained. No professionalism what so ever.

Dissatisfied
My loved one was a resident at Brookside Stone Mountain and overall the experience was not great. Shortly after we moved our loved one into this facility, they terminated their management staff. From that point on, things went downhill. There was no continuity as far as help and the new management did not appear to have any interpersonal communication skills to connect like the previous management staff did. I felt as though there was always a conflict with the nurse on duty referenced by my loved one's medication and care. The staff relied on the hospice nurse and her staff to take care of my loved one's basic care. My loved one also complained that they were rough with him. We eventually had to move my loved one to another location after he had suffered two strokes during his stay at Brookstone.

Tour experience
Brookside stone mountain was close by and that's the only positive thing I can say. Their memory care area felt like a dark locked basement hole, to be frank. The people and assisted living side were fine, but memory care seemed an afterthought.

your loved would love it
The Brookside Stone Mountain community is always very clean when we come to visit and the staff members are great. When we speak with our loved one she says she loves the meals and dining service. Right now they do not have an activities director so they are failing at that, but we hope once they do hire someone that will improve quickly. Compared to other communities in the area the overall value is great and based on what we have experience so far we would recommend this community to other families.

Stay Away
My mom has been at Brookside Stone Mountain for 9 months and they've had three administrators with no experience, they're currently on the third. They lack staff; they have one person per shift on days, one person on evenings, and one person on nights. They lack experience in taking care of the residents. The only meal my mom can safely eat is breakfast. For the other meals, they serve food a teenager would eat. They aren't concerned about dietary needs or low sodium - they don't take that into consideration. I've never seen a dietician or a menu - you never know what you're going to eat. Like most communities, they have an "always available" menu that you can order from if you don't like what's being served that day, but my mom gets lip when she asks for it. They'll say things like, "what do you want that for?" They're also lacking in the cleaning of her room. Her room just got cleaned after 3 weeks. We're dealing with a culture that doesn't care, they don't have basic care skills. According to the State Ombudsman they are not an Assisted Living Facility, although they represent themselves as such. They are a personal care home. My mom has fell twice and SHE had to call 911. They don't answer the call buttons, they just shut them off and keep going. They don't answer the phone and the door stays unlocked until nighttime, you can just walk in and roam about inside. They open the door at 7am and they allow it to stay open until 7pm. Anyone could walk in off the streets. As a family we have had meetings with them. They seemed responsive to our concerns and small changes were made afterward. One of the directors tried to pull a surprise to have legal counsel there, and we didn't know he was going to be there. I'm pretty sure that precipitated the change in the administration, because of the things we shared with the legal counsel. Based on us speaking up there were small changes, but it's still not the experience we would like to have for our mom. It's been a bad experience. Currently, my mom doesn't get to the bed before 10:30pm and they get her up at 5:30am because of their lack of staff. So, she is not getting the proper rest. There isn't enough staff to get her to bed early and / or help her up at a decent time. They used to have 12 hour shifts, but they had problems keeping staff so now they have 8 hour shifts. The person who has the evening shift puts her to bed and the person who has the morning shift, gets her up - which results in the 10:30pm (or later) to 5:30am sleep schedule. The reason why we chose Brookside is because it fit into her budget, and it was all inclusive. I'm not and can not speak for all of communities, but for staying in the budget - is this what we get? She is 80+ years old, and this is ridiculous. Thankfully nothing has happened to my mom, there is no abuse or neglect. But the culture lacks respect, they talk to her any kind of way. They'll say things like, "If I would have known you were on my list, I wouldn't have helped you." They speak to her in an inhuman manner and they make her feel less than. Not all, but some of the staff have a serious lack of respect and if they're speaking to her that way, I can't imagine how they speak to those who are nonverbal and incognizant. We used A Place for Mom; they referred us to Brookside and I'm very disappointed in that service because now we are moving my mom. They've decided that as of Monday they are raising her rent by [price removed]. Overall I would tell everyone that it's been a bad experience and to stay away.

Good community, but some staff lacked training.
This community is close to us, which we liked. But they were understaffed most of the time, and seemed to be lacking training, it could of been so much better. Some of the staff was very and some of the staff was horrible, however they did take care of her. I did see her every day which i believe helped her get more care. You do have to make your presence known. They did have a couple of exercise classes for the residents, they would throw the ball to each other. Sometimes they would have holiday parties, entertainment come in to sing to the,. They tried to keep them active the best they could. We cleaned the rooms ourselves, but they were good size, they had a big window that provided fresh sunlight

Better ratio of staff to residents
Our loved one seems to be settling into Brookside Stone Mountain. The facility is an older establishment that could use some updating and refreshing. But they are taking good care of his needs. The staff is friendly and caring. We moved him to this facility for better care and more attentive staff members Also there isn't as many residents in the memory care section here, only about 12. There were about 60 in the previous facility he was at. There is a better staff to resident ratio here. The staff members are pretty easy to talk to about any questions or concerns regarding our loved one's well-being. It seems like he is enjoying his meals. It is in a convenient location where we come and take him out a few times a week. It fit our budget needs.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Georgia regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Georgia regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookside Stone Mountain 6.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
