My loved one toured this facility and although it was very reluctant to go into assisted living, believed that this
place and the people in it were a good fit. I, too, was very impressed by the size of the facility, it was not so large as to be impersonal and not so small as to be unlively. The surroundings are beautiful, the apartments are spacious and accessible, and the people couldn't have been more kind. Unfortunately, my loved one passed away from health complications before ever living full-time at the facility. But I had peace of mind knowing that they were there waiting for him and even kept tabs on him in the hospital. I would definitely recommend that people add this to their list of places to consider.

Right fit

We are more than pleased! Great place, great people. I would tell prospective families that Brookdale is very well managed and being there is like a family who care and cherish one another. My Mother says, "She loves it at Brookdale".

experience so far
My downside was moving in during Christmas weekend. Did not get the attention needed to settle in.
We love the appearance of the place and location.
Staffing issues like everywhere.
Mom's assessment put her in memory care. Reasons, to get better medical care. That's a big no!
And for social stimulation, again a big no!
We got tossed around with ideas to move her to assisted living, but must hire an aide. I couldn't reason with that when we are already expected to pay around $[removed]!!
Her medical needs were not being watched properly. Half of the team was great. Other half, need to find a new career.
In the three weeks we've been here, mom started to get her bedsores again. Got a UTI, which I had to tell them she had. They were not changing her often or she'd wait up to 45 minutes when she pulled the cord to be taken to the bathroom.
Then I inquired about her blood sugar. Was told, we have to get an order to test. Ok. Waited a week. Approached again, same nurse, we have to get an order. Yes, so did you?! Told me to bring in my own blood tester. I did. Her blood sugar was 210! They took my tester to use. They don't provide. I asked if she will go back on her glipizide and Metformin like she used to do. Well, they didn't have it in the report from Brooke Grove, so no. Though they noticed she listed as diabetic. Also, her medication was not properly ordered. She takes Seroquel to control her anxiety from CBS. By the end of the first week, she was wide awake for 48 hours!! Finally got her meds the following week and she slept for 36 hours.
The people in memory care for the most part are not social, due to dementia. No one for mom to talk with. The manager said, well you take her to her room before we are going to do something. I told her, I either take mom to her room because she told me she needs to be changed or she doesn't want to sit in the loud dark room. And, the manager can come to her room and ask if she would like to join. Never asks me or talks with me. Just text with short comments.
I come every day to take her downstairs to eat with the assisted living people. Why me, because I will have to pay for a chauffeur.
They were leaving mom's door unlocked. Several times other residents were found in her room. Undressing and yesterday, in her bed sleeping!!
It took me 2 weeks to get a key to her room.
Every time I inquired about something, I had to wait until our two week meeting.
Meanwhile, the chef here got us a key.
Finally, they are testing her blood daily and doing bloodwork this Friday.
Oh, she had a hip replacement and needed PT and OT. Again, 3 weeks in before she was even evaluated.
Yesterday we had a medical meeting with Ms [name removed], nurse [name removed], [name removed] the memory care manager, [name removed] who is the business manager, chef [name removed], and physical therapist. I listened. A few were defensive others were very caring and concerned with all I had to say, including, I just gave them a 30 day notice. I'm taking mom home. She does not fit in any place here. She cannot see or hear well. She has CBS, not so much in dementia. She needs physical therapy, social stimulation, not so much loud noise and dark rooms. Ms [name removed], PT and OT, nurse [name removed], Chef [name removed], all understood. We discussed ways to change things to see that mom's needs were met. Even reduce the cost.
We are to follow up in two weeks.
Today, door was not locked. Found her not participating in exercises but untangling yarn, which she hates to do. Because mom will just do as she is told. Nurse [name removed] whom has an issue with me because I ask questions, just handled me mom's reports. I asked what her blood sugar was today. Not very nicely, answered me 150.
I will give them a chance, but gosh, heck of a lot of money to leave someone you love. And heartbroken that she isn't cared for properly. But, I will leave it at, they don't have the ability to meet mom's needs. Which I do understand.

I toured with Brookdale Olney. It is a very nice facility! The look was a little too elegant for my mom, she is just not the chandelier type. Based off what I saw I would think that they would take great care of loved ones. A lot depends on individual preferences.

A wonderful place all the way around
My loved one is a resident at Brookdale Olney. We love it here! I would rate this facility at a 5 across the board. There is nothing lacking and all services are exceptional. The activities are their super star for sure. The staff is top notch and the Executive Director is exceptional. I would recommend this facility to others.

Brookdale is a good match for my 94-year old mother's needs in assisted living.
Brookdale has been a good experience for my mother. She has short term memory loss, so they're very good with her. They're very attentive to anything I mention or ask about. I think they're short-staffed, but the care they provide is good. I feel like the experience you'll have depends on how involved you are. I visit often and have a good rapport with the staff, including admin. For my mother and her limited needs, it has been a great fit. And i she needs memory care later on, I like that I see them including the memory care residents in the activities.

We had a nice tour with Brookdale. The facility is beautiful but pricey. They were great with follow up after the fact checking in on us to see where we decided to place our loved one. They had a lot of amenities offered here that our loved one would not have been able to use.

I Couldn't Have Done it Efficiently Without A Place for Mom's Assistance
It is a very nice place and would recommend the community to others for their loved one's needs. The staff are great at talking to me about concerns, questions, or updates on my loved one needs.

A caring and loving environment that puts family members at ease.
We feel this community could have more staff members, but regardless of that we would recommend this community to anyone who asked, family or friend. Due to COVID they don't have activities available, but beforehand there were plenty. They would take day trips to go out and socialize, there was board games and movie nights. The only complaint we do have is the amount of food being delivered, its all based on diet. For example our loved one only received a slice of pizza for lunch and that was it, so we do think the food portions are a little on the small side.

Engaging and inviting
Initially , it has been an easy transition for my aunt. I was so happy to find a community that could meet her needs and provide the quality of care that she needed. It appears that we lucked out and found a great match for her at Brookdale Olney. Her room, the food, and the social aspects really have met her needs as well. With the COVID lock down, she has been able to manage and thrive with the comprehensive care they provide her. The outside is nicely landscaped and appealing to the eye. The amenities are engaging. Overall, we have been very pleased.

Things are working out well for my father here at Brookdale Olney. The staff is friendly, helpful and attentive and I feel my dad is safe in the memory unit. My dad did have some issues when he first moved in and they are being addressed for the most part.
They have plenty of activities for the residents to choose. My dad likes going to the dining area and said the food is okay.
I like the fact that they do have a resident doctor who sees my dad and monitors his meds.
I would recommend Brookdale Olney to family and friends.

No complaints about this property!!
I had taken a tour of this property for my mother and really liked what I had seen during my visit. They did a good job on maintaining the building and keeping all of the bedrooms nice and clean. They had a great meal plan and a list of activities available to the residents throughout the week to keep them busy. They just did not have an immediate opening and was a little more expensive then the other place we had looked at.

We liked this facility but did not Find anything that would really make us choose this over another facility. We were not able to see the interaction between the staff and the patients due to a GI virus (everyone was confined to their rooms)

Beautiful community!
The tour went great and the staff was wonderful. This is a very nice community and they have 3 levels so it is pretty big. They answered all of our questions and showed us around most of the building. I just felt that as mom progressed that there prices would change. We wanted to have a set price.
