Everyone at the administrative level is available to answer questions. Making the decision to have Mom leave her home was difficult for us, especially for her. Now, though, she and we know it's best. The staff is kind and helpful and provides care that we could not provide. The meals, cleaning service, and accommodations are good. We would recommend Brighter Living.

Experience at Brighter Living
My loved one is currently a resident at Brighter Living and the experience has been okay. However, the facility uses temporary staffing companies that are not always properly trained. That has been problematic for our loved one's care. The food is good. The facility is clean.

Negligent staff
Beware! Staff forgets prescriptions and medicates residents without notifying family. When asked for copies of your loved ones treatment they ignore verbal and written request! They can delete this review but soon the media and state officials will be enlightened!

Greed outs
I don’t know how residents are treated but beware of sending love ones for respite stays. They forged and prescribed medications to my dad that is not only insurance fraud but they will not release what treatment they gave him! One drug was for cancer patients and the other was discontinued in 2025! Beware! Respite contracts require staff to notify family and the family supplies the meds. My father has not returned to his previous baseline since being released. Supposedly there was a Norovirus outbreak but my request for his records have been denied.

A brand new community
This community is beautiful. They offer many amenities including a theater store and a pharmacy. I did not like that my loved one would have had to walk to get his medication from the pharmacy since he has memory issues. The community was a little more open than what we were looking for in a memory care community.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Virginia regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Virginia regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Brighter Living 6.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
