Anthology of Farmington review
1-I think one thing to point out is how they should be advised to ask if they are being provided with ALL contracts. We didn’t know we were even missing one. 2-Also advise speaking with/interviewing not only current residents but also the director of nurses and director of operations and asking how any problems will be dealt with. To look at contract for issues such as care, meds, arbitration, etc. 3- to look in contract for things like how staffing issues are dealt with.Ex: People quit and get sick. What immediate fix happens then? Anthology of Farmington is a pretty nice place especially if you have a car. It looks like a resort hotel but without a pool. For every day dining, it might be considered a decent restaurant. How it works on the inside is another matter. Appearances aren’t everything and our overall experience with assisted living has been disappointing. The common areas look clean and are nicely decorated. The apartments are cleaned weekly and the exterior is also well kept. However, the kindness of the staff as well as quality of care is overall poor. The near hear nurse will not return calls, voicemails will go unanswered. The care is poor and unacceptable. Care means many things - it is multi-faced. I understand the challenges of short staffing but this goes far beyond that. Since our loved one’s arrival, much of the staff from maintenance to the director of nursing has left causing poor staffing ratios. They have rehired some by the question is why has there repeatedly ben frequent staff turnover. This is a fact, not here-say. There is no communication between the Anthology team to the residents regarding medical care and orders. Concierge medicine appointments are not being kept or even scheduled. Multiple medication changes and adjustments have not been communicated. Nurses do not dispense meds; aides/techs do. The medicines aren’t labeled so they don’t know what they are giving out and the patients don’t know what they are being given, With the meals and dining it is certainly not a “quality” restaurant. It has a limited menu with very small portions, even for smaller elderly appetites. Bottom line overall is total disconnect and no communication at all among staff and between staff and residents.

PLEASE don't bring you family member here
I could never recommend this place to anyone. They are dangerously short staffed and when a resident is in dire need of help it is not available. We called "concierge" 6 hours straight and left messages. We got in touch with a live person ([name removed]) once and left 5 message requesting that somebody physically hand my mother her cell phone since it was her life line and she was incapacitated. 6 hours-and nobody could help her with a one minute request. They only responded when we said we'd call the police department to do a wellness check since we couldn't reach her. My mother became 100% immobile the next day. The directors will lie constantly about the care they can provide. Housekeeping does NOT come every week and my mother was told "we'll come next week, because we don't have time". The facility itself is beautiful, and I loved the friends my mom made there. The service in the dining room is awful and the turnover is extreme.

Anthology of Farmington review
Overall experience was fair. It was very clean and the staff was for the most part friendly. Quality of care was only fair. It depended on who was caring. Meals and dining good. Activities were mostly limited, a lot of time was spent in front of tv. The cost was generally in keeping with going rates in other homes. Questionable about having to provide furniture and bedding and towels and soap. Regarding care my husband must have fallen , whether once or twice, and it was never reported to me even after several inquiries by me. He also was in Memory Care which is very different from what is generally advertised as a social, stimulated activity filled facility. Memory care is different .I am finding in home care more acceptable.

Review for Anthology of Farmington
Staff is friendly & caring. Food is not that good. Not geared to the age. Given large pieces of meat with no way to cut it. Very few activities in memory care unit. Mostly watch tv or sit outside. Sometimes a painting class. My largest concern is the lack of communication. My calls go to voicemail and never returned. Overall it is a nice place. Especially the main part. Memory care is where they are lacking.

The staff in memory care were kind to my Mom The food was fair especially compared to [removed] The most difficult as a family member is the lack of communication from administration and staff...it's catch can! They promised us 3 fobs to get into memory care and we never got more that 1 and constantly asked. Memory care is a challenge and very different from assisted living.

Anthology Farmington Review
It really depends on who is working. as far as response or help, they are terrible. They are also terrible making sure that people eat especially if they have diabetes. It is a big problem. The food I don't think it's high-quality. When I go, my mother and her entire table complain. And my poor aunt is in the middle between a resident and memory care, and they just ignore her. It's really terrible because she requires them to make sure she has dinner because she'll say she's not hungry but she has early dementia and they need to bring her food. I have told them several times just make sure you bring her something if she does not go to dinner. People just don't care.

The entire staff at Anthology of Farmington are friendly, professional, attentive, and compassionate. From (1) [name removed] , the Sales manager who is engaged in the day-to-day nuances to ensure everyone's needs are met, (2) the nursing team and aids attending to our mom in a way that allows her to make progress in her recovery but ensuring that she remains safe, (3) the dining room staff serving meals that were freshly prepared and served in a dining room that was elegant and cozy. I highly recommend Anthology of Farmington to anyone who is looking for a quality and affordable place.

Definitely recommended
It is a good facility with a great and friendly staff. When I first got here I couldn't do much for myself, due to a previous injury. They did a good job of taking care of me. Now, I'm much more independent and I can do everything myself. It's a very new building, so the apartments are new. However, the apartments are very inaccessible even though they're built for people with disabilities. That's my biggest complaint. I would definitely recommend it here.

Our experience
It is difficult to communicate with staff over the distance. If you are in the building, you can usually find out what you need to know or get a question answered. I do not think they are staffed and set up for assisted living --- more for independent living with some additional services

If your loved one is independent, especially with meds, then go there. If not, Anthology is a mess with meds, timing, dietary instructions, and never informed the family if there is a problem. Also, response time to pressing the button takes a very long time.

Excellent Care
My loved one has been very well cared for here. The staff are attentive and know the procedures to get my loved one to the hospital when needed. The staff communication with the family is good when we can ahold of them. There are three meals a day served to the residents. This is a community I would recommend to others.

I think the place and staff is terrific! It's my second place.... moved my folks there from another place. As usual there are snags, but the staff is very eager to resolve concerns. I cannot speak to activities.... my mom isn't a participant, other wise I'd give all a 5, meals and dinning I would give a 6! The daily specials menu choices are huge! And the standard menu has multiple choices as well! The staff I have dealt with are very good and I live very far way and I have cell phone numbers and emails of many. They are very flexible and try to fit your needs.

tour review
Our family had an in person tour and [name removed] who we believe might of been the director was wonderful. She was just so welcoming and we felt very upbeat and relived once we left Anthology. However we did not choose it because the location was a little difficult for us to get to, and it is newer so they have a bunch of tech things and given our loved ones age and dementia state we just did not think that would be in her comfort zone.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Connecticut regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Connecticut regulations for Assisted Living.
