Need help? It'll cost you
This is a community for rich people and my mother was not comfortable because of the exorbitant cost. My parents no longer live here, they had to leave.
This community would not provide help for my parents including NOT being able to put my dad's wheelchair on the trolley cart - they were not willing to do that.
My mother had to go out in the rain multiple times just to get their food because they charged her if it was delivered. They were very rude to my mothers and treated her in a condescending manner, so I don't advocate Westminster!

Westminster Shores review
It's a lovely community and the residents care for one another. The nursing staff in assisted living is overwhelmed and not able to provide the care we pay for. It seems to be a universal problem in every assisted living we've encountered. The care is a mixed bag of bright and compassionate employees who go above and beyond to assist a growing population of new residents who have been with this institution for years and angry and uncaring staff who would not take an extra 30 seconds to help your loved one stand up or put their shoes on who should not be working in healthcare or any industry involving human interaction with vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, the uncaring appears to be multiplying and winning at the Shores, and unless management makes intelligent choices on vetting, selecting and training new hires wisely, this assisted living is honestly a one fading star review at best.

Chef [name removed] , a Top TampaBay area Chef
This review is long overdue. Chef [name removed] is one of the premier Chefs on Florida’s West Coast. Managing and preparing food for our Alta Marina Restaurant and 1926 Bar, Chef [name removed] menus are creative, inspired and attuned to residents’ requirements. His meal preparation is excellent and the presentation is artful. Chef [name removed] monthly country-themed meals are a wonderful food adventure providing a special food experience for residents. The Alta Marina is fine dining in the most beautiful setting in St. Petersburg. Though understaffed, Chef [name removed] insures maintenance of his high standards for quality even if it requires him to bus tables and serve meals. Thank you, Chef [name removed] for your excellent contribution to our quality of life at the Shores!

30% rate increase in 6 years
This facility used to have a long waiting list. Now there are occupancy issues which they seem unable to resolve. 30% rate increase in 6 years has put it out of my price range and I understand has caused residents to seek other living communities. There are ongoing dining issues including cutting back on meal portions, choices and planning to eliminate breakfast all together. My parents were in a high end CCRC and I would have moved them immediately if they had half the rate increases that Westminster Shores has had. These increases are significantly out of proportion compared to other like facilities in FL.

It's a friendly and beautiful place with lots of interesting things to do. I like our apartment. It has high ceilings and overlooks the water. It's new construction, so it has an open kitchen and a big bathroom and is nicely designed. It's a great place to live.

The community I bought into five years ago is not the community I live in today. Employees are performing multiple tasks not commonly associated with their position description. The Activities Director is driving a tram not to assess needs but to deliver meals. The new Director fired the nurse, a beloved, trusted care giver who was providing care in accordance with case management standards as spelled out by the American Nurses Association. Monthly cost has risen steadily and far outstrip the cost-of-living adjustments and used to pay a 5% increase to executive salaries compared to the national average of 2.8 to 3%. The redeeming quality is a dedicated group of employees whose loyalty to residents is stellar. [removed]

6 years ago, we specifically chose THIS CCRC which provided 24 hour availability of healthcare and related services, daily meals, evacuation/care during a hurricane and a community environment. In the past all these amenities have disappeared.
The issues include:
- Loss of availability of a 24 hour nurse to assess medical situations when the emergency call button is activated.
- AEDs (automatic defibrillators) are forbidden and there is a Corporate Policy against them in Independent Living.
- They plan to institute a part C Medicare program where residents will have to turn their Medicare benefit over to them AND pay a monthly fee for services in the health center.
- Independent Living residents are now told to “evacuate yourself" during a hurricane.
- They have SIGNIFICANT issues with the dining program/quality of food. Residents are paying between [price removed] and [price removed]/month, but are only allowed [price removed] for food per day.
We DEFINITELY regret referring our parents to this facility.

She made it happen
I began exploring retirement communities 2 years ago. I discovered Westminster Shores in September 2021. [Name removed] in sales guided me through the process, all online. I never felt the need to fly to FL from [location removed] to check things out. She sent me a video of my present home, a lovely villa in Westminster Shores. The move from [location removed] to FL was a challenge but I arrived here safely. Everyone, staff and residents have been so kind and friendly. The menus are incredibly delicious. I've made a friend who was introduced to me by [name removed]. She lives right next door and we do everything together. This was the best decision of my life and I have a brother in [location removed] who was very impressed by my photos and he may follow me here soon.

The residents are VERY unhappy
The Shores is a perfect example of Corporate greed. Rates are going up as services are rapidly eliminated. You are on your own to evacuate for a hurricane, they now want to charge for meals that are of poor quality and quantity. If you have a cardiac history look elsewhere NOW. They have a Corporate policy AGAINST automatic defibrillators on the Independent Living campus. The Corporate office, in Orlando, lives in Lala Land and is astounded when they find out what is REALLY happening at the local level. The residents are frustrated, angry and dismayed.

Very Disappointing
The setting is beautiful and I have made many wonderful friends here but I can no longer recommend this community to others. Why? Because of the administration. Promises have been made and since broken. One concern is evacuations in case of a hurricane. We were told we would be evacuated and now we are being told that in the event of a hurricane all independent living residents are on their own!
I am signed up to move into the new building that has yet to be completed. For over the last year, residents have been voicing their concerns only to have been ignored and for the most part not even given the courtesy of a response. Just a few of these concerns regard toilets at a comfortable height for seniors, proper doors for walk-in closets, a dining room where residents were promised one meal a day.
Westminster Communities of Florida does not care about the residents' opinions or desires.

We had a very informative visit with the sales director [name removed]. She was able to explain the ins and outs of a very import life decision. We were very impressed with all the new construction at the Shores . I would recommend a visit to anyone thinking of joining a continuous care retirement community. The sooner you plan the better.

So glad I moved here!
Moving here a year ago was the very best decision I could have made.
The campus is lovely with a wonderful water view. I love my two bedroom, two & a half bath apartment with balcony. Both inside and out there are features that will be even more important to me as I get older: bright lighting, wide doorways & halls, level sidewalks.
Making friends is easy here as we take meals in a dining room and are offered a wide variety of activities and outings.

My Forever Home
Home is where the heart is — and my heart is here at Westminster Shores!.
The water is what first drew me to Westminster Shores, but there is so much more that keeps me here. When I first moved to The Shores, I only imagined myself being down here part of the year as I still own a home up north. Now, if I go back to Philadelphia a total of six weeks a year, that will be a lot! I'm hooked.
I came to Florida to get away from winters, and for more sunshine. St. Petersburg holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive sunny days and I’m enjoying each one.
The St. Petersburg area is very desirable, weather-wise, and culturally, too. There are wonderful museums and musical venues, professional sports, and the beaches. Westminster Shores, in particular, has a really beautiful campus. I can be downtown in 10 or 15 minutes, yet living here is absolutely peaceful. You're in paradise.
I am younger than most residents at The Shores but I didn't want to wait to move to a community like this! I'm retired. I deserve this! I want to enjoy every aspect of this fabulous place that I can, while I can. I'm in a community with retired people here, and that's what I am, too. Retired! My neighbors are so active: They kayak and fish and play pickleball. Fascinating people live here. They have become my family.
It is a wonderful feeling to know that I have everything I need at The Shores. My every need is taken care of from my physical needs to maintenance on my apartment to social and fellowship events and to my meals. What more could I want!
I also like the fact that I can travel without worries. Living here, I just close my door, and I have a feeling of security. I don't have to worry if my hot water heater is going to break, or if it snows, who will shovel the sidewalk in front of my house, or who's going to mow the lawn. It's wonderful!!!!
