Absolutely horrible
I am not even sure where to start. My experience with the Walford was awful. My Mother lived there for a short time and she was treated poorly. There is no security so anyone can just walk in and go into any residents room. and remove their personal items, (which happened). The management is so unprofessional and rude. I tried to talk reasonable with them regarding my mom and they were just nasty and confrontational. management and staff are untrained regarding Patients Rights and their property. There were residents that had bedsores from improper care. Some areas of the building had piles of garbage bags stacked and it smelled so horrible. Staff working overnight shifts were caught sleeping . Staff not getting paid properly. I met many families that had very bad experiences with the Walford. It's unfortunate to have my mother go through such bad experiences and the cost of living there is crazy for what you get. never would I ever suggest anyone reside here.

Very unfriendly manager
My mother has lived there for 6 years. The management changed and they only seem to care about control , not the residents best interests. They do not follow government directives or care about what the RHRA directs them to do. The common areas are full of renovation materials and the library/sunroom is also closed.

Happy with the choice
This facility is made wonderful by its staff. Always a friendly face and smile. Rooms are large and have great natural light. Ongoing painting and replacing keep up normal maintenance. Meals are healthy and filling. The residents wouldn’t be classified as active seniors. Most well attended activity is regular musicians brought in. Cost is reasonable for the comparison. An excellent choice for our dad’s needs.

Peace of Mind
When I first contacted A Place for Mom, I did not know whether I could be helped. [Removed] quickly eased by mind and was a wonderful listener. She immediately took action and made contact with a facility in our City. Once she had received the information, [Removed] called me back to explain what the facility could do for our family member, and that someone from the facility would be contacting us. True to her word, we received contact from the facility and a visit was quickly arranged. The staff at the Walford were very friendly and understanding. Shelley and Maggie explained the services to us and took their time to show us the rooms available. We were unable to proceed immediately due to health issues of our family member, but once we were able to proceed months later, these two wonderful people went out of their way to make the transition seamless.

Lovely open concept lobby and dining area. Beautiful natural light. Lunch was good. No availability for 1 br living spaces and did not really like the idea of 2 studios becoming 1 unit. Felt the units should have a small kitchenette and this was not an option with the 2 studio idea.

We have seen this residence a couple of years ago and my mom did not care for it because the facility seemed like it was for more of a type of resident requiring more care

A Place for Mom has scored The Walford Thunder Bay 6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
