Not a good experience
The independent living area was nice, but they offered no assistance at all. So if a resident using a walker fell, the nurse or aides right down on first floor would not help. Just called an ambulance. The food was not good.

Staff is very friendly. Rooms are slightly larger, building and furnishings are old but well kept. Lowest buy in cost, minimal amenities, activities are nice, they do keep an eye out for residents, staff knows residents by name.

HORRIBLE! DON'T GO HERE!
I would rate negative stars if I could! My Nana had an infection around her heart and was sent here for six weeks of IV antibiotics. While Oak Hill may not be directly responsible for her death, they certainly did not make her last couple months easy. During her time there, she had limited activity outside of her physical therapy and remarked that she spent a lot of time laying in her bed or sitting in her broken recliner. When we visited her, it took at least 20 minutes for someone to respond to the call button. As if that isn't bad enough, her and her roommate said they were yelled at for using the call button to have someone turn on the air conditioner, something they were not able to do themselves. When she completed her treatment, no one contacted us about discharging her. In fact, the last conversation I had with her she mentioned that the only time she was out of her room that day was to get breakfast. Once her treatment was done, she was left in her room to sit. DO NOT send your loved ones here. My Nana, like everyone else in that facility, deserved quality care. We lost her shortly after that and knowing how poorly she was treated rubbed salt in a deep wound that won't heal.

I would recommend OHV. That said, my mom has been dealing with some health issues and is currently in an acute care rehab hospital. I plan to start looking at assisted living options, or even better, continuing care options.

I am from the old school ( I am 82) and not very comfortable writing reviews. The residents and staff are all very friendly. My family commented on the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facility. I have lived here for one year and I am very contented and happy. Also, a very convenient location.

A horror show
This place does not communicate with the family about the well-being of their loved ones. They outright lie when you are able to ask direct questions. For example, we were told we "might wanna wear a mask" because a couple folks got the flu. It was a full on covid outbreak they were covering up. They use sneaky tactics to get cognitively impaired people to sign over their rights, their homes and their funds. When they realized my mom wasn't going for it, they made every effort to push my Dad out of rehab before he was ready and had home care in place. They do not perform basic care, like helping people to the bathroom or giving people water when they are thirsty. The food is awful and the place is overrun with mice. My dad lost weight just because he couldn't eat their cardboard toast and frozen eggs. Food service staff retaliate against patients! You and your loved ones are not safe in this place. Please look at other online reviews. This place is a horror show!

On the Decline - used to be 4+
My mom has lived here for 10 years and the place has really gone down hill since changing hands. Overworked, underpaid (and therefore unresponsive) staff. They haven’t replaced my mom’s emergency call button for nearly a month and she had a fall and was on the floor for hours! When I called to get it replaced, they said they’d do it and never did. TV service has been intermittent, repairs were promised and not made … new owners DO NOT CARE for the residents and patients. They’re squeezing for more profits.

Terrible place
If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!! Our mother was sent there for rehab after surgery on her knee, and they were told outright that she was a fall risk, and needed monitoring. Not a week after she was there, they found her sitting on the floor beside her bed, and sent her to the hospital for examination of possible head injury. She was returned to the facility after a couple days, and we were told there was no sign of head injury, but her condition deteriorated rapidly afterward. She wasn't eating, and they made no real effort to make sure she got food (or what garbage they passed as food) into her. She passed away after 2 months there, and when my wife, brother and sister-in-law went to collect her belongings, the staff at the nurse's station greeted us with "oh, THAT family". no sympathy, compassion, or empathy whatsoever. Avoid this place like the plague!!!!

Change
The change from cable to dish television has been a disaster. Local channels are unwatchable and many digital choices are not of interest. There are multiple channels on cars. Come on. I am a visitor. Taking advantage of older adults that are not tech savvy and can’t speak up knowledgeably is almost criminal. Old people need their tv to be WATCHABLE.

This place does not have any real facilities for independent living,no fitness center and no dinning facilities except for the one in the personal care section. The lady that gave us the tour was very nice and informative. I would consider the personal care ,it look much better than independent living, with nice common areas, but that is not what we are looking for

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know the Pennsylvania regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Pennsylvania regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Oak Hill Village 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies.
