Medicaid is a state-run health insurance program for low-income individuals. Arizona’s Medicaid program is called the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).

Eligibility requirements for ALTCS include the following:
- Seniors must be over 65 years of age.
- Seniors must require skilled nursing care (which includes nonmedical personal care administered by assisted living facilities).
- Seniors must make at most $2,829 a month in pre-tax income. If an older adult makes over the income limit, they may be able to set up a Special Treatment Trust. Seniors can speak with an elder law attorney if they’ like to set up a Special Treatment Trust in Arizona.
